    Thank you for replying I have asked you a question about a switch before. May have to have a rethink and wire the house as you show in this video. Thanks Lee

    I work in I.T so I kind of follow what you are saying.... but man.... you gotta slow down and stop picking up different bits of kit every 2 seconds........you need more structure to your delivery..... but very useful all the same :-)

    Can you say what are the best faceplates? I've searched for the ones that you said are the best but cannot find them anywhere? The one's that I've got are good but don't look as sturdy as the ones your using. I'm using cat 6 cable all round with Netgear switches around the house. You are doing a great job in explaining, and showing, the 'dark' art of networking.

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  8 лет назад +2

      Hi, if you go for a networking brand (Draka, Krone, LANmark, Amp etc) then these will be the best faceplates but also the most expensive. If you already have the faceplates and they are CAT6 rated then personally I would be tempted to go with them rather than buy new ones. You could always replace them in the future if you are unhappy with them.
      Thanks Vince

    Hi im about to extend my master socket to a new location and have installed cat 6 cabling .. My aim is to move my talk talk router and phone to the new location. Can i use the Rj45 module to plug my broadband rj11 cable into directly and will it work ?? I was planning on as the guide suggests using an rj45 for data adsl fibre and a master phone module for phone side.. Thanks and great video...

    Hi Vince if I were to use a patch panel would I also need a switch. So for example plug my router into a switch then feed the patch panel from the switch. Or does the twelve port patch panel act has a switch? Many Thanks your videos are always awesome and very well explained.

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  8 лет назад

      +Lee Jones Hi, no the patch panel does not work as a switch, it is exactly the same as having 12 single sockets next to each other. You will need to connect up a network switch to your router and then use Ethernet patch leads from the rest of the spare ports in the router and the ports on the switch to the patch panel.
      Cheers Vince.

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  8 лет назад +1

      Hi, yes you can and you would be unlikely to see any difference in speed whether using an Ethernet port on your router or using one of the Ethernet ports on the switch.

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  8 лет назад

      Hi, no, sorry I don't. It will be hard to run them because the dots can be in random places and you will probably keeps hitting them when fishing it through.

    If your master socket has an RJ45 socket, are you able to use the WAN port on your Hub/ Router to connect to the master socket instead of a phone cable? if you can is the performance better than using DSL.

    I can't optimise my phone and internet.
    My internet is done through the National Broadband Network, Fiber to the Premises
    How it works is the fiber drop leads into a Network Termination Device which then converts the light frequencies into the RF or electrical current that the POTS and Ethernet uses.
    We login to the ISP's network through the standard way, whether they want to have it plug and play like you're plugging into a network switch or if they want us to jump through hoops with the username, login and method of login PPPoA, PPPoE and so forth, it's up to them but I feel that plug and play works best as you can just tell the customer "if you have issues, try plugging your computer directly in and go to www.google.com" rather than trying to get them to go into windows settings to have the PPP connection.
    ANYWAY....
    I am able to drop local ethernet cables down my walls and have them terminate cleanly, I will be able to have the NTD connect directly to the ROOTER and then I will have to go a little more intermediate...
    I will be running 2 sockets in each room, 8 inside the room with the NTD, because the NTD has 6 ports, 4 UniD and 2 UniV, (4 data 2 voice) I'm not going to be using the Blue/blue white for the voice because... what if I want to add extra LAN and nix the voice? the best thing to do is to just use the RJ12 adaptors, which just clip into the network socket cleanly and allows me to use the U.S. phone systems on there while allowing it to cleanly clip in and be held, and when I am done I just take out the adaptors and plug in a standard patch cable.
    I will be having a WiFi in the middle of the house, rather than trying to find a power plug in the crawl space (HA!) I will be using PoE which is still compatible at a lower speed than the 10Gbit, but I can live with slower WiFi if it means I can access it.
    Patch panel? Yes, I expect to have a full 24 ports used up, especially when there are 2 ports each room and 8 in the main room, plus router being in the same room as the equipment rather than in the same room as NTD... my phone - VoIP will be using the Router's ATA (yes, I agree that it's best to use a dedicated PBX but this is for 1 phone line spread out across a few rooms, I already have overkill, last thing I want is to spend an extra $100 for a dedicated asterix system)
    All bound together happily with a network switch, 8 port network switch and it will allow me room for expansion, switching the voice for data or data for more voice.

    Hi Vince sorry to hassle you again. If I were to run a switch on cat5e cable, would I be able to use a faceplate by my router and connect a facepalte by the switch. Or would it be better to connect the wire straight to the router then straight into the switch I think we are talking about 10 meters from the router. Many Thanks Lee

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  8 лет назад

      +Lee Jones Hi Lee, either will work. The more professional setup would be using the faceplates but this does involve a bit more work.
      Thanks Vince

    Question: can you go from patchpannel to patchpannel
    Situation: you screwed up and ran cable's to a closet that you outgrown.
    Now you want all the cables that you terminated in there to go to a new place like the attic. Can you extend the cables without inheritance?

    i 9 device to conect up so i was thinkin of usein cat5e cable around the house and run a cable from the router to a switch would i need a patch panel as well thank

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  8 лет назад +1

      Hi, if you are running the cables back to the router and the switch then you can just crimp plugs onto the cables and plug them straight into the router and switch. You don't have to install a patch panel but it can look neater and if you have a lot of cables then it a patch panel is easier to manage.

    • @sixthltz400
      @sixthltz400 8 лет назад

      I was hope in to run 1 cable from the router to the switch and all the cables from there as the router is in the hallway and don't want a mess of cable so the switch will be in the ulity would 1 cable from router work

    That is a lot of information to adsorb all at once. If I didn't already know how to do this, I would be confused. All your information is accurate, but you need pauses for the audience to adsorb the information just given. Try not to info bomb people.
