Normally Touhou waits until Stage 4 before the difficulty spikes… here it happens in Stage 3. Enemies aren’t screwing around and with the slew of suicide bullet shooting guys you’ll need to carefully plan when and where you shoot things down in this stage.
As a mid-boss Doremy’s just here to give you a taste of what’s to come. Both in showing off her standard, hard to follow cool down and this being the first spell card where you need to be in a certain position before the spell starts or you’re screwed (this game loves doing that)
As a boss however she packs a serious punch, though not in the traditional sense. For the most part her spell cards aren’t terribly difficult but her final two cool down phases are so difficult to follow they’re easily tougher than anything she pulls off on you.

Kaian is actually a reference to a story ("The Dream of Kaian", "槐安の夢") about a man who fell asleep in the shade of a tree and woke up in a strange land where he was made ruler and lived out his life. However, that was just a dream, and upon waking up for real he discovered that the land he had dreamt of was the anthill by the base of the tree, and that barely any time had passed.

It's interesting. Doremy Sweet just revealed the interesting truth behind Urban Legend in Limbo, as to how the occult balls manifested in Gensokyo.
So they were all dreaming of their respective urban legends and they came to life? I never really followed the occult incident, it’s so confusing especially now with AoCF and Sumireko fighting her dream self for some reason?? And the incident is STILL not resolved so honestly what is even happening in Gensokyo anymore

I finally got a computer so I've been playing Touhou for the first time. I've been playing LoLK as the first one I'm trying to clear Because of point device mode and because it can only get easier from here. Anyway you made Doremy look easy I must have died over 500 times to her! it took me over 3 days to finally beat her in point device mode.
I must say, more power to you if you're starting here first cause LoLK has got to be the worst game to start with. But you're absolutely right, if you can beat this it's all downhill from there.
By the way not to be you see but did you see my question on the previous video relating to 15.5? I'm not sure if youtube sends notifications for comments on old videos so I'm not sure you got it but basically I was wondering if you planned to wait for the update that adds more spell cards to story mode before playing 15.5
Ah, yeah RUclips's goofy about the way it updates me on comments. Right now I'm really not sure, I'll see where the game stands later on.

1:47 if you're aren't at full life yet, you can get a life piece from streaming bullets here.
Even if you are, you can get spell pieces at full life the same way one gets life pieces. Proof of this is at 4:55
You'll get spell pieces always in PD mode. And unless you have an eternity of patience, you'll want to build them up, because the hell that is Clownpiece will take MANY.
Pointdevice is the best thing to ever happen to this series and I'm sad that it's gone. Lives are such an outdated and archaic mechanic in games. Pointdevice lets you get right back into the action and actually _learn_ what the hell to do instead of inevitably getting a Game Over and having to play through the whole fucking game again just to get back to the one spot you had trouble with. It would be fine if Practice Mode actually let you practice shit that you've _seen_ but haven't beaten yet. Because if you can _beat_ the stage, you don't need to practice it!
Yeah. This was honestly my favorite game in the series, for the mechanics, story and characters. I could not have chosen a better first game.
As someone new to Touhou I started with EOSD as recommended and beifly had a go at the other games. Then I heard the legend of LOLK and dived into point device hard mode while using no bombs. As difficult as it was, it drew me in, the fact you get to retry because the game is just that hard is a mechanic I really like (though I threw in the towel at Ringo). The arcade format does get boring after a while because it becomes information overload when you're trying to focus on only one particular segment of the game. I get way more satisfaction beating bosses in this game because of the retry mechanic and I'd get into a lot more danmaku if they used the same thing. I'm about to start stage 4 on normal, wish me luck!
Lives are fine in short and arcade style games like Touhou where the whole game can still be beaten in like 20 minutes but are kind of pointless in modern longer games where the punishment tends to just be "ok you ran out of lives now you have to start from the beginning of the level/world"

Ahh, Doremy Sweet. Should I ever choose a waifu as per the unwritten rule of the Touhou (and anime) fandom, Doremy would have to be it XD which reminds me, I gotta start fixin' my cosplay soon :D

Welp, now we're locked into the bad ending.
To be fair, it's easy to mess up with Doremy. Her non-spells are pretty much RNG, which is already bad for a No-Miss clear. I do remember having to do the stage over and over in Pointdevice, not gonna bother in Legacy
Yeah, trying to do a no-miss Legacy clear is just insane to say the least with how much RNG this game has. Legacy's more fun to watch, but just beat Pointdevice quickly if you want to unlock the Extra and get the good ending. That mode is _so_ much easier.
MegamanOmega Well, just accept a miss or death-bomb in Legacy. But I will admit that doing Pointdevice is easier... Until you reach 'Murica-chan. Idk bout you, but I'm still stuck there. Only managed to beat it with Sanae by bomb spamming.

How can I put the hitbox and change the type of shot?
By holding the shift key down, that's what's know as the "Focus button". It both switches to a more constrained shot type but also slows you down and shows your hitbox so you can dodge things easier.

I just want to point out that that isn't really true. Doremy's midboss spell is doable no matter where on the screen you are, on Hard and Lunatic everyone dodges it on the bottom of the screen (because this results in half the pattern that isn't there on Normal despawning off screen). The only time the game really screws you over for being on the wrong part of the screen is during that one Clownpiece spell and during one Junko spell.
