The VS Win quotes from fighting games are generally a great source of lesser known Touhou lore. For an example, conversations between Koishi and Reisen in both AoCF and PS4 ULiL reveal that Reisen is completely immune to Koishi's "unconscious invisibility", however Koishi is also immune to Reisen's "making people go mad" ability
Nitori is just so precious, goodness. She might seem ambitious, but she's just excited because she's basically working her dream job, and it didn't backfire or anything (like most dream occupations often do). She's such a good girl.
I don't really agree with the interpretation at 2:25. I think it's more accurate to say Byakuren, through her training, no longer harbors any hidden desires. I disagree with 4:15 as well. I think it's more a sign of just how much humans have outgrown fantasy. For outside world humans to mistreat youkai, they'd need to be aware of them in the first place. My interpretation would be that despite being a big shot amongst youkai, she's afraid of becoming forgotten and disappearing like almost all other youkai have in the outside world.
We actually meet Byakuren’s Dream self later on in the game. She’s a bit lazy and selfish, which is actually what inspires J’oon to take her training more seriously since she realizes that Byakuren is able to keep her desires in check. I think her actual Dream Self isn’t seen by Doremy most of the time since Byakuren probably lucid dreams. I was going to mention it but it interrupted the video’s pacing. Your take on Mamizou’s Dream is interesting.
Doremy can probably pull a Psycho Mantis. Yup. As for Doremy's comment about herself, this really makes me think of the mirror match win quotes in PoFV. Where what they say is more like an inner monologue. So if that's the case, it's just Doremy thinking about how busy she is during AoCF
That makes a lot of sense, actually. Though I wonder how each character would react to someone that's exactly like them outside the acknowledgement of said cloning.
As someone who feels they know Miko pretty well, I sorta figured out what her desire/dream self would do. That one hits pretty close to home for me....
For Reisen, we play as her dream self in the game and it's basically a "speak truth to power", endlessly frustrated, shining heart of justice version of Reisen (she literally exclaims "I AM A HERO OF JUSTICE"). It's nice, imo, because it shows that she cares a lot more about the world she lives in, that she no longer remarks on how worthless and beneath her everyone else is. Instead, she's keen on doing the best she can for Gensokyo and also badmouthing people who she feels deserve it.
I thought it was disappointing, actually. Her ULiL route from the PS4 release built Reisen up to have another important role during this game. I would have preferred that over some stupid story where one of those dream world selves did a poor man's Eiki Shiki. As a Reisen fan, I feel let down and robbed by her story mode in AoCF.
The bit with Koishi is actually interesting considering you do get to fight her dream self in Violet Detector. Which begs the question: what sort of person is the dream self of someone who doesnt dream?
There's a theory that since the way koishi acts like how she does can be similar to how someone acts in their dreams, with no consequence or thought in their actions and due to subconscious maniplution also being tied to dream manipulation it is entirely possible that when koishi "dream's" she just ends up in the dream world somehow instead of her dream self. That or like the comment said above me, koishi probably does dreams like everyone else
When i played with Shinmy and Tenshi together that was just the funniest shit ever, turning down all of their enemies' egos like they were the average 5th graders
Love how every antagonistic character in Touhou has some lore buried somewhere about a deep sadness that makes them the way they are -- except Tenshi. She's just a little cretin
Tenshi isn't all without a sad backstory. She's unsatisfied in heaven, of all places. She's a thrill chaser because she desires more than any other character. It's ironic, as she's a celestial, aka no desires. She definitely just wants a friend who can give her what she needs, and her being a cretin is just a means to the end, quite like a lonely child who wants attention.
wow, i was not expecting joon's dream to be that. my view of her has just been altered immensely also, for future reference, the "jo" and "on" of her name are separate sounds, rather than being "oo" between "j" and "n". her name is sometimes written as "jo'on" (close to what you wrote, but you misplaced the apostrophe) to emphasise where the separation between sounds is. it's an easy mistake to make, i just felt like it'd be a good thing to mention.
This was a really good insight on the cast of the game; I didn't know I wanted this, but now I'm really interested in these insights, and wondering what the others outside the AoCF roster dream about.
This actually could explain Mamizou's over protectiveness of the human in Gensokyou living in fear of the humans in the outside world (most likely because in the outside world she was an animal) made her very protective of any kind of beings that might end up being bullied and this includes the very humans she used to be afraid, I guess both Mamizou and Yukari Yakumo are similar in this as both started out as creatures hostile towards humanity that ended up warming up to them and wanting to protect them instead (with Yukari essentially created by Lunarians to torment the " impure" humans ending up growing sympathetic towards them as she interacted with them more and more)
I haven’t found a way of seeing the vs win quotes anywhere, since I don’t have a Pc to play the game with. Does anybody know a video or thread that compiles all the vs Win quotes?

Reisen: “Your sister’s messing with my patients again”
Satori: “It seems you’re disappointed that you can’t do anything regarding that”
The Hell of Blood Pools was mentioned by Koishi in ULiL, she said that she sometimes sees Murasa visiting the Blood Pools
Can’t go insane without using your brain!
@@HyperVaniloThey actually foreshadowed Minamitsu's route in SFW where she goes down to the Blood Pools.
Doremy: "are you enamored by youkai?"
me, looking at all the fanart: i don't know, Doremy. you tell me
Doremy: I was thinking about wanting to be one….
But that DEFINITELY fits.
Also, that was rhetorical.

Koishi's situration makes sense. She doesn't have anything to dream about when she doesn't even really have a memory to speak of.

Kokoro is the autistic-coded rep we needed
I think you commented on the wrong video.

oh damn Joon make me cried a little bit....this is so sad.

Maybe it's her past self, still lingering, waiting to wake up?
Not sure about this, but I'm pretty sure dreams take place in the subconscious mind, which would mean Koishi would, in fact, dream.

Woah, I did not expect that part with Joon at all.. glad to know, thanks!
When i played with Shinmy and Tenshi together that was just the funniest shit ever, turning down all of their enemies' egos like they were the average 5th graders
On Byakuren, I interpret that more as her having a lack of worldly desires, but both are probably true.
I really like the J’oon one.
