ZUN's probably drawing alot of these stories from his own personal experiences, with his family I feel like he's putting in some of his own social commentary and stories into this, and I find it wholesome and endearing ^u^
I also feel like Rinno is also kinda a godfather to marisa earlier on in the series, especially since marisa herself doesn't have a good parental figure.

The Rinnosuke Father angle Actually does kind of start happening at the same time as ZUN having kids
ZUN has definitely put some anti-capitalist messaging in his works, lmao. I think he has some comment about the final stage of capitalism being population control (hence why the population in his home country of Japan is declining). Of course, that might seem contradictory with the plot of UM but I don't think it's necessarily so?

I've seen several comments that say he's 50, but his mention of an extinct bird species and him not recognising the outside world probably puts him at like 200.

@@darkhorse744 I remember ZUN mentioning in a recent Touhou exhibition that Mokou's hair is grey because of age (her hair is technically separate from her body) so I wonder if that's also why Rinnosuke has grey hair because he's half human
@@Xenomorthian Could've been born that way, every chance that he's actually albino and simply isn't suffering the effects due to being half youkai.
Or his hair colour might be from a Youkai mother, Eirin for example has white hair.
Also, that has me wondering if Mokou might eventually go bald.

I think that's more to do with Gensokyo having been cut off from outside world technology and not developing since the formation of the barrier
that being said I wouldn't be surprised if the Human Village guards have Tanegashima since those were invented long before but don't see much reason to use it thanks to the Spellcard rules and their slow rate of fire and inaccuracy (try hitting a tiny flying cannibal girl with a matchlock (^ ^;

@BM-13_KATYUSHA technically speaking they do have to follow the rules but if a youkai attacking them wasn't they can break it
