I've been writing rhymes and rapping for 12 + years and now trying to make my own beats, mix and master my own music so I definitely feel this and needed to hear it, so thank you!

real talk this video almost brought me to tears. been grinding nonstop for years and sometimes it can seem so out of reach, but you never know what opportunities are around the corner if you just don't give up 🙏🏼
I appreciate this man. Thank you. Honestly I make music for myself, it's a way for stress relief. I've shown it to people who asked to hear it and I get positive feedback. And told to put it out there. Never really thought about it
I’ve been on and off rapping since high school (over 15 years) and I get frustrated with myself because I cannot adapt to the new hip hop style. Then I come to realize that I actually don’t want to adapt to it. Music takes a ton of time and money when done legitimately so that’s one thing I’ve juggled and contemplated about. That’s me personally. At this point in my mid 30s with a successful career outside of music I’m not really focused on making a hit or a project but whenever the creative juices do get going, I don’t neglect it anymore.
3:30 hit frr, i been tryna get around the people that are making it in the industry because when you're only surrounded by people coming and going and it's a revolving door it makes you wonder if its worth staying. Working to branch out my connections, i have a few things im going to try before i start another business, its been about 4 years now since i started and i been really grinding the last few months releasing a new beat every day. Before i change direction though im definitely going to try soundkits, beat packs, maybe funnel styled, midi packs, drum kits etc. And any forms of content i can think of shooting for long and short form. Paid ads as well😂 until ive exhausted all resources i cant switch direction cause ill always wonder what if
Man these videos are great. You seem like a down to earth dude so its like a friend telling me these things. I used to write as a hobby and recorded a couple songs but stopped there. I feel like I didn't have much life experience at the time but have considered getting started again. Keep up the good work Kyle!
After 11 years of doing it, I gave it up. Costs too much money with no roi. Maybe if I started off as a producer back in the day it would've turned out different.
I needed this. Thank you. I never thought about 'quitting' but I definitely struggle with imposter syndrome. I've only been producing for about 6-7 months so I know there's a lot to learn. I'm definitely hard on myself but I never want to stop making it.
I been doing music a long time but honestly sucked for the longest than got ok was into edm making chill ambient beats did a lil djing at some shows and festivals than one thing led to another and I found myself not doing music at all for like 4 years Got inspired to rap instead after watching rythym and flow on Netflix when the pandemic started and decided to get back into music practiced song writing and some recording for a lil less than a year and decided to make my own beats but on Mobile this time bc I started seeing the potential and too lazy to set my workstation up programming and installing everything from scratch again. on and off for the past 3 years and I’m feel like I’m gettin way better thanks to watching videos like yours and others ❤
Great insight fr, I used to be an artist myself until some personal life problems left me with the only choice of producing beats if I ever wanted to continue with music. So far it's gained me far more traction and engagement within my first year than I ever received while being an artist. Sometimes you achieve your goals in different ways, just takes time and consistency which is hard for everyone.
Yo Bro I needed this. Thanks!!! Here in jamaica it is really tricky just to even live from music or have and keep the passion for music becasue it's hard.
I have a love/ hate relationship with doing music. I get nothing out of doing it by myself for myself, cause I hear all my ideas in my head already. It means nothing to me if only I am hearing those ideas. I want to do music for other people to hear my ideas. Maybe it's the genre of music I make, idk, but it doesn't feel like anyone cares about my music other than me and it makes me not care at all too.
Not gonna lie ,some times I get so frustrated and I just want to quit but I always remind my self were I was 1 year ago and what i have become now. So some times when i feel tired i just take a little break like if I am making beats every day i make a beat every 2 days so i can get some more time for my own life. But I think u should NEVER quit just take a break and after a little while u will feel better again like it never happened.
I don't wanna make a living off it. It's important to me that everything I make is personal and pressuring myself to put something out there gives me anxiety
Thank you bro. This means hella. My name is R.E.N The Machine and I feel the same way dawg. Learning how to make beats. Thank you for being so cool and a good teacher.
Started making music when I started watching you! I transitioned from beats to edm music and I absolutely love it! I never even thought about when I was a kid how I was obsessed with music that I should try to make it. I wish I started making music when I first wanted to back in 2013 lol. I would’ve been horrible but I could’ve been so much further! But it’s all good because I’ve learned so much since I first started back in maybe September 22’ it’s amazing
I have a new guitar arriving tomorrow or the next day, my first steel-string since my teens. Yamaha LS-TA, top drawer instrument. I play classical, but I decided to jump into acousti for stuff like Jethro Tull and Beatles and CSNY. Turns out there is a classical version too. I am not giving up music.
Thank you for sharing this video! I needed to hear this because I have been so harsh on myself, but I wasn't aware of it. I've had such high expectations for myself because I know I've made some incredible music and I've received great feedback from others. I've just never been able to be consistent. Thankfully, I'm in a position now where I can consistently post content online. I just need to follow through. Thank you for inspiring us and putting out great content 🙏🏼
I appreciate everything I really do Kyle but this is just the end of another thing I've tried. In a long line of things I've been into and sometimes it works but it mostly doesn't. Every creative thing has an input and an output and then a place it can be expressed in reality or not. I don't have the time as a 56 year old man to dream the dream of a twenty year old. I know I have some kind of lyrical and intellectual fire in me perhaps i should just go and write another 7 sci-fi books to add to the ones already published. Or maybe I should just put my slippers on and stop trying to push myself any further. i was getting good at the rapping and writing part and some things were getting magical but with no eventual place to put these things it seems pointless now...
idk man I been doing it for over 10 years and woke up today and text my homies and was like I'm done y'all and funny I get an email saying " you thinking about quitting music?" maybe this a sign not to but my streams have gone down and I've made like 47$ this month I had a song get me into a position where I could live of my streams and now I had to get a job again after 3 years and I feel that's my sign to give it up but I stumbled upon this life is hard lol
if you have talent and a passion, whether or not you're successful, you should do it (if its morally okay also lol). If you do not follow your passion, not only is it a waste, but it's disrespectful to yourself. your passion might change and thats okay. just dont give up when its difficult or youll never get anything done.
I make a ton of music. I started making tracks in year 2000, but I knew it could never be the ONE thing I do. It's always been something I've been passionate about but I've always had a career and tried to do music on the side. I got to the point where I felt I was good enough to make industry submissions, but it's not free and there are deadlines. When you make music for yourself, there's A) No pressure to make anything great and B) There's no deadlines. Once there were deadlines, there was a time I literally had to write four RnB tracks over 20 something hours straight because I was confused about who needed what and when. It goes from something that is pure fun to something much closer to work. I can keep trying for a while, and I've gotten some traction, but I can't go on forever busting my ass and never getting a placement. If I can't land one, I'd rather do something else once in a while. I just work and make tracks now. That's 90-95% of my time.
Hey Kyle I just started my music career 2 months back, and I have been suffering from writers block ,but I definitely needed to hear this so I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart
In my experience with writers block, just find the beat and punch in lines from freestyling. I’ll do that for a couple bars to get a base around what the song is going to be off the top, then all of a sudden the writing comes naturally again
Oh Kyle, It’s so hard to be a music producer. I just procrastinate and hate myself for that because I can’t compete with who I was yesterday when there are others who do much easier stuff then me and they get where I dream. I take breaks just to feel myself better but I know these breaks are longer and longer because Im afraid that I expect to much from me, already knowing that I don’t have that experience. You are right but it’s harsh, and I m not the only one on this planet. 🎉😢
Shoot bro I feel u, I'm not a producer but I'm an artist and I see people put shit out that gets a lot of traction compared to my stuff and it makes me go "damn what's the point" but the most we can do is keep our head up and keep trying man.
everyone goes at their own pace, bro. it's important to hold yourself accountable and do the work when it needs to be done, but there's nothing wrong with taking time off. in my experience, Kyle is right. Your best work comes after these breaks I was feeling similar to you 9 months ago. I was taking huge breaks, and I was very unhappy with my output. then, about 5 months ago, I started working on something that really changed my outlook on music. I chose a sample from a game I loved as a kid and just went all in with it, and I made a conscious effort to hold myself accountable. I KNEW that I could make something special with that sample, it was just a matter of time until i found what worked. so instead of closing FL once the beat was close to done (like I usually did), I stayed with the project and promised myself not to stop until I was either satisfied or exhausted. in the end, it was easily the best beat I'd ever made, and it really inspired me to start working on new stuff the epiphany for me was learning that it wasn't my talent holding me back, but instead my effort. believe in yourself and hold yourself accountable as an artist, only you can make your shit fire. your breakthrough could be coming soon homie, keep working and believe in yourself ❤
I'm not making money at all music is my blessing and my curse I will never stop and I can't stop but I love what you do drip is my number one go to thank you so much for one never quitter to another
So much of what you said here resonated with me. I’ve been struggling for a while with the pull between music and a more “traditional” career path and for a long time I was letting myself believe that music was an unrealistic option, despite it having always been the thing I’m the most passionate about. A few months ago I decided to take the leap and start taking music a little bit more seriously and started making RUclips videos and releasing more consistently and it’s hard to put into words just how good it feels!
I am oldschool. My issue is that I started doing music before instagram, twitter, facebook lol I am trying to learn all of this new technology... I am not giving up... been doing it too long lol
My greatest feelings come from telling a recently made friend as they hop into my car or I connect bluetooth at the spot, "Hey check out this instrumental I found" them listening to it and really vibing out. They ask "that's pretty good stuff man, kinda sounds like (x)... Who's the artist? and I just crack a smile and say "well that's me" 😁
Yea but what if you’ve been doing it professionally for about 25 years and along the way you’ve gathered a “following” and people call you a “legend” and all the compliments, you’ve done shows all over your home nation and internationally, you’ve been on all the top radio shows and had your stuff played etc etc etc etc but you can’t seem to sell many records. even though you are on a popular label and you are doing the work properly, including promotion etc. is that a sign that you should quit at least putting music out? I was going to stop recording all together. Was on the path of being signed almost 10 years ago out west, which fell through. Was signed 8 years ago with a group and which that fell through. I've recorded a few tracks and had a song start going viral. Within 4 days, it was flagged and removed. I haven't been able to get the same traction since. So with all that I was going to stop but then I heard this one beat and it changed that. I record for myself and don't normally release it, but the song I released the other day was fun to make. ruclips.net/video/2syyKMMkQLM/видео.html
