Rob I so appreciate your transparency in your life struggles & successes, and in your sharing of this craft that is so therapeutic and healing to me over the past couple of years. Praying many, many blessings to you & your family & successes in your future endeavors!
I’ve been trying to find a quilt pattern for my dads 70th birthday this year for about 12 months now, he’s a blue boy! I’m certain this is the perfect pattern for him! Thank you for sharing this pattern!
Tks for the tutorial and the "confession"... My son is a recovering alcoholic and has taken up being a RUclips gamer, with all the learning curve that goes with that, as his "quilting". Good to know what works for you. Congratulation and God bless!
Rob, I can’t even tell you what your transparency means to this quilter. I to turned to sewing to keep me out of trouble. I will celebrate 2 yrs in the 22nd. Thank you for all you do for this art form, I really have learned sew much!!
Again, Rob, excellent timing. I found a bunch of perfectly cut half square triangles that I made a year or so ago, sorted them and just kept staring at them last night, trying to get inspired. This will work perfectly, thank you so very much! Sometimes I get a thought and find out that "that thought" is out in the universe and either get a phone call from "that person" or THE PERFECT RUclips VIDEO!! It happens too often to be a coincidence, don't you think? Stay safe {{}}
Dear Rob, you are a very gracious and inspiring man, talented and just a legend in my books. Your quilting tutorials have meant a lot to me. Your No. 1 fan in Australia. Monica - God bless you.
Hi Rob, it takes a big person to admit to addiction and an evener bigger person to keep going even when they are down and could easily fall back to old habits.....WELL DONE flower. You are a credit to your family to keep going as you are and try and find ways out of doubts. Another thing is, you are brilliant at your new hobby of quilting and can make it fun for everyone that wants to learn as well. I hope that your bouncy bubbly nature keeps up flower because you are a breath of fresh air and are better than any tonic prescribed. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us and your time because you are making this lockdown easier to handle and let me at least hear another voice other than in my 4 walls Sending you and your family crafty hugs from here in Central Scotland. Carry on Quilting. lol.
Thanks for sharing a personal story. My chronic pain got me into working with my hands, via quilting, too! New subscriber. Love Juki machines. I bought an industrial one for the speed. Awesome!
Jerry’s back!! You’re awesome, Rob. Keep on truckin’... Once in awhile you get shone the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right. Me too... I LOVE messing with fabric.
God bless Rob! I have been watching your videos for years and have loved every one. I too have had bouts of depression and quilting has been my therapy and my salvation. Keep up the awesome work and I look forward to future projects by you. Thank you!
Hi Rob. I have been following you for a while now. I thought your story was your Mom had a quilt store and you followed the footstep. I am glad you find comfort in quilting. This is my comfort from another dis-ease. I see a lot of people relapsing in the rooms. Stay safe and stay close. We will get through this. Everything comes to pass. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful project
Rob, I respect your openness and honesty, and wish you all the very best on your journey in recovery. Your quilting ideas and tutorials are very thorough and precise, thank you for all you do. Hope you and your family keep well during these extraordinary times.
Hi Rob, Thank you for this vid! My mom just sent me a box through the mail of 6 different green fabrics. She wants me to make a coverlet for her bed, sized ... you guessed it... 50 x 50! How perfect and timely is your vlog!!? I don't even have to search for a pattern! 💚💚💚
I've made 26 quilts during lockdown thanks to your inspiration (also Missouri Star and Jordan Fabrics). I actually utilize the still attached dog ears as a place (where possible) to place my needle when I'm ready to sew, to ensure good/correct traction with the feed dogs and miss the sometimes scrabble that occurs at the beginning of rows. I know some people use a bit of scrap fabric for this. Far too much time is taken cutting off the ears as a step in production. Once I have used the ear as above, and the joined fabric is now incorporated or just ready to be sewn now in the middle of a line of patchwork, then I cut them off with my snips kept by my machine as I get to them. Also I keep 2 small containers next to my cutting mat, one to put discards in the other for fabric that can be reused. It irritates me to see people brush it onto the floor
Having watched numerous of your videos over a period of years, I'm just now realizing that you are an artist. Duh! Your blustery style and humor tend to hide that, but somehow it struck me this time. Thanks, Rob.
Sitting and knitting watching you; hubs just walked in: "That's a beautiful quilt up on the wall and he's got great colors all around!" Thanks for being there! Greetings from a maker up north of you--we're in San Francisco (family of: 3 teens and 2 parents in health care).
Hey Rob, I also use quilting to bring me to my “Happy Place”. I think Angela has got it right when she says quilting is my therapy. Thanks for sharing. I think it helps others to know that they are not the only ones. Beautiful quilt. I would like to see you using your new long arm machine.
Yay, something to do with all my cake mix triangles I’ve been playing with. Thank you Rob, I’m going to have fun with this, stay well and stay safe, all the way from Australia, love your videos and how refreshing and enthusiastic you are.
Thank you Rob, am chomping at the bits, so many days at home and no compunction to rush downstairs to quilt, lost my mojo. Hope it comes back . And thank you for the free pattern. Love from sunny New Zealand xxxx
Thank you for saying that, I have a blast making the videos, but it is not always easy to keep creating. Knowing that folks really enjoy the content helps make it all worth it!
@@makingitfunwithmichaelmill8161 I'm a nurse so still working but I know there are alot of people staying safe by watching you tube and quilting so just look at yourself on the frontlines doing a service to the psychological well-being of human-kind. It means alot to many!! Thank you!
Thanks, Rob! I love when you teach us new patterns & designs!!! Hang in there! We love you! Stay safe!!! BTW, I came across the same blue fabric you used for 60* ruler quilt & am patiently waiting to get started...love that tutorial!!!
I just LOVE this wee quilt! We are cocooning her in PNW - watching lots of your videos & loving your techniques! I'm a 'center out & assembly line' person too. Thank you for all of your videos!
Thank you for sharing I was starting to get anxiety it over a month I’m in my home and it really starting to get me this will make a lovely gift to give my sister when this is over be safe all the best Donna-from Canada
I hope you’re feeling less depressed today, 4/11/20. I’m a recovering alcoholic. Some days are a little rough, but not drinking is soooo much better than the opposite. I enjoyed this video and all of your videos.
Hi Jackie, I was in a dark place a couple of years ago and God bless her, my mom kinda bullied me to start quilting again and I'm glad she did. I love watching Robs videos. Happy quilting!
:53 Aloha kuʻu hoa, Rob! thanks for lifting us up, even as you struggle with the rest of us. It is written, "I will keep him in perfect peace, who's mind is stayed on Thee [God]." Hang in there, precious friend, we're all pulling for you!
I am also making 2 quilts during this quarantine. I’d call myself a scrap quilter lol. I am still working a lot and just quilt when I get home. I’m on 63 out of 110 ish 6 by 6 blocks. I see why people follow patterns now lol. All of my favorite people are recovering substance abusers. Take this time to rest and keep your oil lamps filled up :)
Thanks Rob - still watching from Dublin Ireland!! I'm in the over-70 cohort so I'm complying with Government directive to stay indoors called "cocooning". Thank you for your videos they make so much difference when separated from everyone. This is a sweet pattern and thanks also to the Material Girls. Question: what stitch size do you use please? Take care and keep safe everyone
Off topic, but you did a video of using scraps as batting in dog beds. Yay! BTW, is it acceptable to also intermingle scraps of chopped up actual batting? 😸❤🐶
HI Rob, I first saw you on MSQ with JENNY Doan. I liked your video today. I like simple quilt pattern and pre-cuts. I have arthritis in my hands and wrist so it makes cutting fabric hard to be correct. Do you have patterns for pre-cuts different from any of MSQ?
Question re Eagle Over Alaska appliqué-can’t tell from video or photo on cover of kit-is there straight stitching long edges of all pieces, and then FMQ on large spaces such as sky and water? Love this project, had great trip to Alaska many years ago
@@makingitfunwithmichaelmill8161 Thank you for the reply. I’ve used blanket stitches on appliqué but I certainly can straight stitch the pieces & then will watch your FMQ tutorials and hope for the best, as my long arm quilter retired.
Hi, What size square did you start off with, the actual pattern from the other ladies they do their 1/2 square triangles different to you so if I want to get the same as yourself then I need the size of the square. Thanks, I am so glad I come from a country that is small ie New Zealand, yes, we do have the virus and as of today 1039 cases and one death out of a total population of 4 1/2 million.
Lots of quilters/patchworkers say that you do not need toback stich or lock stitch at either end of the individual seams. They say cos it is always being enclosed in other seams that the sewing never comes undone. I know you back stitching all seam ends but do you think EVERY seam should have back stitching?
My personal preferance is to not worry about back stitching within the blocks but when i put blocks, into rows and rows into the quilt I'll usually backstitch in the beginning and the end so the rows dont come apart when applying the borders
Rob I am also a member of AA and have a few 24 hrs. If I can help you at anytime I am here for you. Also there are many Zoom meetings where there have been folks from many states and countries. Hope this might help you.
So, Rob are you doing tutorials at MSQC any more.....or is this something new for you? I've been ill and didn't realize that you hadn't made any recent videos from Man Sewing???
GOOD FOR YOU ROB. MAD RESPECT TO YOU.
You are an inspiration in ways you will never know.
Keep it up.
I agree that quilting can lift your spirits… then you can lift up someone else when you give the quilt away! Love your special effects!

Love the idea of cutting off the dog ears before you cut the HST. I don't know why that's never occurred to me before, but it makes great sense.
I know, it was a million times easier than I have ever seen/taught before!

I am curious. Do you starch or add sizing before the four at a time triangle method? There is a lot of bias to deal with here.

Yup, MSQC ended that contract at the start of 2019, so this is where you can enjoy my energy from now on.
U need to watch MSQC on chain piecing.
I can't stack lol. I get confused and make it all wrong.
Which Juki machine are you using? I have a Juki server and might want to try their machine as it's so quuiet.
I would never make HST 4 at a time. ALL outer edges are bias. 8x time is provides straight of grain on outside edges.
Newbie question: what is the thread count in a high-density weave/fabric?
Usually about 180 to 200
Just wondering how you got into sewing?
Can't find pattern
I web the opposite direction, no rotating for my brain.
Nice pattern. Would do in differnt color. Not a fan of green.✂
