Went to college with him; though blind, he knew how to find each apartment his friends lived in. He'd show up and just bring joy, love and music to our lives. So lucky to have known him...he called me Psychedelic Sally!
What I wouldn’t give to sit down and listen to some stories. I came late to the party but I’m in love with all of his stuff and he seems like such an amazing person. I’m just grateful for the music that he made. I just wish I could get the new train album.
This is the best unknown music I’ve ever heard! It’s practically criminal how he was ignored by radio and the music business! This man had talent and good soulful powerful songs! Sabotaged by a crooked manager and bad health problems but the music can’t be denied. His first album is brilliant! RIP Paul Pena- I’m your Fan Forever!
RIP to an overlooked legend. Such a beautiful, powerful song. That voice is soulful in its purest form. A shame that he was never appreciated in his time. Nuff respect!
I identify very well with this artist. Never heard of him until a couple days ago. It's strange how something written, performed, and recorded so well has not been promoted.
When I was a little boy I felt so alone Quiet country house that I had to call home Living with a couple folks, rich millionaires Sat on their money Lord it seemed they didn't care Finally we moved to our own place Where I could walk around with a smile on my face And I knew in order to be a man I had to pull up my roots and move on in this land I'm gonna move away from here You can find me if you want to go there I'm gonna move away from here You can find me if you want to go there Came to a school in the big city Looked around at the lights and I thought they were pretty They told me to teach me to live by their rules So I wouldn't be nobody's fool I found out, not too long Their rules wouldn't let me sing my song I knew in order to be a man I had to pull up roots once again and move on in this land I'm gonna move away from here You can find me if you want to go there I'm gonna move away from here You can find me if you want to go there I'm gonna move away from here You can find me if you want to go there I'm gonna move away from here You can find me if you want to go there Then I joined the college ranks There they said they'd teach me how to think Gave me books to read and papers to write They didn't know about this boy's come to fight But I found out after awhile Reading those books was making me loose my smile I knew in order to not conceal I had to play music and express what I feel I'm gonna move away from here You can find me if you want to go there I'm gonna move away from here You can find me if you want to go there Jump on a train, come on the train with me Come and ride, you will see Come on this train, success bound We got to get the fee? and the? came around We're gonna get there in a little while Come on with me, depart in style Roll on, roll on, roll on, roll on Gonna move, gonna move on the train If it ain't fast enough I'm gonna jump on a plane
“Reading them books was making me lose my smile” such a great line. In my opinion he isn’t saying books are making him depressed, more so that he wasn’t living his life to the fullest by being at college, that little line in this whole song really stuck out to me, some people live their whole life trying to find what makes them happy, wish I was as wise when I was in college
Wow,, just Wow!!! Grew up in the early 70's, Disco, Rock, Country, Jazz.. Never heard this song before, maybe if the radio had played this song?? Wow,, Just Wow!!
Just letting people know this song is on Spotify, but listed as being on the Genghis Blues soundtrack. Spotify also has Paul's first album. (EDIT - Spotify has now greyed out that song from listening. You can still get it by purchasing the Genghis Blues soundtrack, or finding a used copy of New Train, which is now out of print.
Love this guy, this song and this album. I first discovered him in a very roundabout way. I was a professional belly dancer, looking for new music to dance to, which led me to the world music scene. Was always into African music, specially the drums and the harmonies and vocal sounds, plus I sing and love doing the backup vocals. So that led me on to rediscovering all sorts of singing styles and particularly throat singing. Bought a CD of the Tana Tuvan throat singing, which had Paul Pena on a few tracks at the end, then I saw a documentary on TV of him traveling to TanaTuva only 2 days after I got the CD. Talk about synchronicity! Or is that serendipity 🤔🤷♀️ Anyway, I bought this album and never knew he originally wrote jet airliner and I love his version as well as Steve Miller's.
Just discovered Paul, and it’s been absolutely wonderful, he’s got such a great way to make music, any recommendations would be helpful, but I love everything I have heard from this artist.
Saw him play before. was rocked right out of my chair. Proof that the music companys are douches! You like this listen to the original Jet Airliner that Steve Miller took to number1
This song is written and originally performed by Les Dudek on his 1978 album Ghost Town Parade. Please give proper and accurate credit where it is due.
Sorry, but you are wrong. Paul wrote this song and it was on his album New Train that was recorded in 1973 and not released until 2000. That is proper and accurate..... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Train
I didn't know who wrote this but I'd always heard it by Les Dudek. The studio version is a little better maybe but this is sort of entertaining in a bad mtv way :) Susan Tedeschi does a decent version too. ruclips.net/video/iDVDeSiizc4/видео.html

thats is a lovely story, i like how people who knew lesser known artists from a long gone era comment about their lives on these videos
I am grateful just to have read that. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. He seemed like such a sweet person in "Genghis Blues."
@@Mulheisen100 I'm from Millbury originally, Elm Park brings back a lot of memories, I was 17 in 1970.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I only wish we could give Paul Pena the thanks for what he's created
I'm 65 now and Paul hired me to do some gigs with the band when i was 19....what ever year that was.....i miss him so much.....a wise loving man....
You were bless to play with him.
You are such a lucky man
What I wouldn’t give to sit down and listen to some stories. I came late to the party but I’m in love with all of his stuff and he seems like such an amazing person. I’m just grateful for the music that he made. I just wish I could get the new train album.
Thank god for Genghis Blues, I probably wouldnt have discovered this legend of a musician. RIP Paul Pena.
SAME

Played music with Paul in the old Boston day's. Fine human. Excellent talent. Open heart. Gone way too soon.
What a nice soul music of this gem
this is my ringtone.
Paul was a natural born talent that comes 1 in a million.
First heard this song on a Les Dudek record. Paul Pena is a one in a million talent. What a voice
I identify very well with this artist. Never heard of him until a couple days ago. It's strange how something written, performed, and recorded so well has not been promoted.
When I was a little boy I felt so alone
Quiet country house that I had to call home
Living with a couple folks, rich millionaires
Sat on their money Lord it seemed they didn't care
Finally we moved to our own place
Where I could walk around with a smile on my face
And I knew in order to be a man
I had to pull up my roots and move on in this land
I'm gonna move away from here
You can find me if you want to go there
I'm gonna move away from here
You can find me if you want to go there
Came to a school in the big city
Looked around at the lights and I thought they were pretty
They told me to teach me to live by their rules
So I wouldn't be nobody's fool
I found out, not too long
Their rules wouldn't let me sing my song
I knew in order to be a man
I had to pull up roots once again and move on in this land
I'm gonna move away from here
You can find me if you want to go there
I'm gonna move away from here
You can find me if you want to go there
I'm gonna move away from here
You can find me if you want to go there
I'm gonna move away from here
You can find me if you want to go there
Then I joined the college ranks
There they said they'd teach me how to think
Gave me books to read and papers to write
They didn't know about this boy's come to fight
But I found out after awhile
Reading those books was making me loose my smile
I knew in order to not conceal
I had to play music and express what I feel
I'm gonna move away from here
You can find me if you want to go there
I'm gonna move away from here
You can find me if you want to go there
Jump on a train, come on the train with me
Come and ride, you will see
Come on this train, success bound
We got to get the fee? and the? came around
We're gonna get there in a little while
Come on with me, depart in style
Roll on, roll on, roll on, roll on
Gonna move, gonna move on the train
If it ain't fast enough I'm gonna jump on a plane

There's just something about this song...it puts me in a good mood. It gets your foot tappin.
I'm grateful she covered this song. I think this is the song that would have made Paul Pena a star - if only the record had come out.
Wow,, just Wow!!! Grew up in the early 70's, Disco, Rock, Country, Jazz.. Never heard this song before, maybe if the radio had played this song?? Wow,, Just Wow!!
See what I'm saying? 😄 Thanks for your comment, Rick!
One of the best rock songs ever written! Give this man his due! All the way from the throat!!! Overlooked Genius!!! Lovin this shit!

gfink2 it has recently been removed from the album playlist and is no longer available on Spotify. I'm pretty distraught about it.
Thanks for letting me know.
This song is on constant repeat for me and has become daily medicine.

Just beautiful..for anytime of day. Thanks so much for posting. I've always thought Susan Tedeschi did this tune first. The original is even better.
This song is written and originally performed by Les Dudek on his 1978 album Ghost Town Parade. Please give proper and accurate credit where it is due.

Some great tambourine playing on this tune. Interesting parts played right on time.
Found him by accident. Love this Paul Pena.
WOW, Great audio for a great song!
Come on with it, Paul!
One of my favorite albums.
This is one of many songs I've heard on the radio but didn't know who sang it or how to find it.

That's The Persuasions in the background when Jerry Lawson was still their lead singer. But lousy mixing, can't even hear their signature blend.

This is a good song to get your day started.
Thank you so much for putting this up!!!
Strong Carolina Beach Music vibe

Finding this genius in 2023
Yes
This song has a Sam Cooke quality to it vocally.
why is this not on vinyl??
I didn't know who wrote this but I'd always heard it by Les Dudek. The studio version is a little better maybe but this is sort of entertaining in a bad mtv way :) Susan Tedeschi does a decent version too. ruclips.net/video/iDVDeSiizc4/видео.html
This should have been a typical Huey and the Newsboys cover. What happened?
