I love Portuguese food. Back in the day I worked in Bank of Lisbon. That is how I got hooked.

I've just come back from a 5 week holiday in Madeira and our regular go to venue for a coffee and a cake was a 20 minute walk uphill from our apartment to a pasteleria called petit fours. Everything there was baked on the premises and their pao de Deus was undoubtedly the best I'd had and I'd have it every time we went. It was so unbelievably indulgent. I want to recreate these at home so will be trying this recipe very soon!

I am 70 and immigrated to the USA as a child in 1960 and I remember as a child going out for pao por Deus on Halloween for these little buns. Thank you for the recipe.

These look phenomenal! I'm going to give your recipe a shot. I made some last year, but my dough was much too dense.

Oooh. I love coconut! This looks delicious. Have you ever had it with non dairy milk?

Hi, I haven’t. But whole milk is about 87% water so you should be able to substitute water (or something like almond milk) for the cows milk. 🍻
