I did this mod on my 213...I must say it is one of the best things I have done for my truck. No more slamming tailgate! Probably took me all of three minutes to complete.
Cool. Was thinking of adding that. Thanks. BTW: Thread locker is made to go on the length of the threads before insertion. Not to glue the head down once in. Food for thought.
Nice. I remember when these type of dampeners came out for our 2nd gen trucks there were rubbing issues when the gate was closed. The older models replaced the tailgate steel cable. This one u have looks to have redesigned it and it keeps the steel cable
@@theyotaduo I just got it the mail today and installed it! My only issue was that the tailgate cable kept getting pinched between the piston and the cracks of the tailgate itself on the ride side of the strut. So I tuck the cable to the left side of the strut so that it doesn't rub or get pinched. It opens smoother too. Just a little reminder for those who are planning to buy this! Tuck the cable toward the left side before you close it so that it doesn't bite or get pinched into the cracks! Overall, great product!
I have the same brand but the gas strut could sure have more resistance. Also just removed the cable since I couldn't keep it from going to the wrong side of the strut while closing the tailgate. If they would make one for the other side the #lb would likely be perfect
I took mine out as soon as I closed the gate after install the cable is in the way when closing. Is it strong enough on the damper to hold the gate along with 1 other side cable. When loading heavy stuff?
I tried to do this with my 2005 Tacoma. The strut did not fit when closing the tailgate. It would not compress far enough and it did not hang perpendicular, it leaned to the right at the top.
Hey man just wanted to say thanks for all the videos, you’ve really helped out a lot with helping me install parts and finding new things to add to my Tacoma! You’re awesome bro!

Did you have an issue with the cable not fitting into the slot when you close the tailgate? My cable rubs up against the damper and makes it difficult to close. Not sure if you found a remedy for this.
Hey Michael, yes I have that same issue. What I do to minimize the bending/rubbing problem is to slide the cable towards the left side of the damper. I use my right hand to lock the gate while my left hand adjusts the cable. I find it inconvenient at times too and honestly, I don’t use this method all the time. There are mixed opinions on this product but I much rather have the slow drop since I constantly use my truck bed for work.

Hey man I have been looking into your question about a tailgate assist for your 08 Tundra. It appears that your truck should have one factory within your driver side tail light. Here I have three links for you to view more info. First link is a forum of other owners talking about the tailgate assist. Second link is the factory part number and item from Toyota, it’s pricey but I know there are cheaper ones out there. Hello. Just installed this same damper on MY 2005 Tacoma (base model), just like yours. It literally took me 5 minutes. Thanks for the videos. Keep it up! Question: Was wondering if you will be performing your own transmission fluid change/flush? All of the Tacoma transmission videos I have come across seem to be a so-called "sealed transmission" with no dipstick. My 2005 (181K) does have a transmission dipstick and I really want to do a fluid change myself to save money. I've had it done by the dealership but I am way past time to get the fluid changed. It doesn't seem that difficult to do but was hoping if you intend to perform this maintenance yourself and add it to your content. Keep the videos coming!! Mike V.
Hello Mike, thanks for supporting the channel and We’re glad you found this video helpful! As for your question, We have been researching on doing a transmission fluid change/ flush so you can definitely expect a “How To” for this maintenance job soon. I also have a transmission dipstick so I am unsure as to why other Tacomas wouldn’t have one. I appreciate the suggestion and will definitely look into the sealed transmission and cover that topic as well in the future video.
Hello, I have a 2010 Tacoma trd off road v6 4wd and recently did the trans fluid flush/drain. On my model, there is no dipstick for checking level and it requires a scan gauge to measure trans temp before checking the overfill plug in order to determine whether the level is correct. For yours, it may be a bit easier with the stick, but do research whether the temp of the trans (which is measured by my scan gauge) is at the correct temp to make sure you are at the right level of fluid. Best of luck!
@@allaboutmd Hey thank you for reaching out and sharing this info with me! I have been researching and have been reading forums about this. I will make sure to include the scan gauge and cover that in the future video.
Recently did a transmission fluid flush on my 06 2.7L Taco - I wanna say it's a 14qt system (or liters? I don't remember) but you're supposed to flush it 5qt at a time or something like that, pretty sure you can only drain so much fluid at once anyways. I followed what I found in my manual but i'm curious to see what you guys end up doing!
@@LTTang thanks for asking! After having it for a while I do have to admit that the cable does bend a little more since the damper takes up some space in which the cable rests at. It does not damage the cable but over time you’ll notice a slight crease. What I tend to do is slide the cable slightly to the left before closing the gate to prevent the cable from bending more. I still enjoy this mod and it has served me very well.
