She wrote this song initially with her boyfriend! He wrote the piano melody and the first verse and was just playing it at their house and she heard him and was like “uhm hi hello can we work on this together?” I just think it’s so cool that two people who are in love could write such a heart wrenching breakup song together! Also, Justin (bon iver) helped build the bridge in his style! Very cool collaborative effort to make such a good song.
Taylor and Bon Iver (his real name is Justin Vernon) made another song together called 'evermore' from the album 'evermore'. it's not quite the same as exile but it grows on you.
This is one of the most beautifully written songs I've ever heard. I can talk about it for hours but in conclusion, it's a masterpiece. This song got me to check out Taylor's music, I knew she was a great songwriter but after this I felt it with every single piece of my heart. Beautiful.
This song doesn't have a music video. Taylor released official lyrical videos for the whole album. You can give them a try. Both folklore and evermore are lyrical masterpieces 💜❤️
You don't hear Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) sing low all that much. He tends to live in the falsetto range. He's genius. Highly recommend his albums. Nice reaction.
They harmonize so well together. Exile, Evermore and Renegade are masterpieces, they never disappoint when they collaborate, they need to do it again in the future tbh.
At 4:00 when you said, "STOP!" That was a dramatic moment when he started up again with her. Just f***ing amazing. Heartfelt Heartbreaking and genuinely an amazing duet. This particular rendition or version is definitely my favorite. Thank u
You're the first person I've seen comment on the call and response between them, I'm obsessed with it. It really sums up why the relationship doesn't work in just a couple of lines. The agony of it all still gives me chills over a year after first listening to it. This song should have won a grammy!
Don’t know if the creator will see this but I love your reactions. I’m a 60 year old guy who played in bad bars for 20 years and a 4 minute song can make me feel every emotion that the world contains. This celebration of music that you share here is artful and beautiful. There is nothing like music. It holds everything beautiful.
If you love this, you absolutely have to check out The Last Time Feat. Gary Lightbody (lead singer of Snow Patrol)! It gives the same vibes, same great harmonies, same back and forth. She's also done a second song with Bon Iver (Justin) called Evermore.
Awww you reacted to Exile, it is a beautifully sad song sincerely hahaha, but without a doubt their voices complement each other and it sounds great, one of the best songs on the album
When Taylor released Folklore, this was the first song I've loved. It's the best and Bon Iver's voice is so amazing, no one can sing like that!! and Taylor's voice became deep and sounded so so incredible.
Bon Iver is a project/band for Justin Vernon, who is a friend of Aaron Dessner. He and Dessner have a joint project called Big Red Machine, which also released an album this year. Vernon did a duet on Evermore (title track), and sang harmony or played instrumentals on several other tracks. So far as I know, he and Taylor have never met in person, because of the pandemic (and her mother's being very high risk from chemo.).
I absolutely LOVE how he takes time to give us his point of view of the lyrics! And how he really appreciates the song. Keep doing what you're doing :)
Gorgeous Song. The Lyrics - The Story is Romantically Charged With Unforgettable Love For Each Other that’ll Never Let Go. Those brave piano chords are simple but immensely powerful. ♥️. I wish Swift had more songs like that. His baritone/bass vocals were dark, rich and beautiful-filled with many Raw Emotions creating one of the best duets I have ever heard in a very very long time. Blended perfectly together, yet two different styles and sound and Two octaves down from Swift for a bit. There’s harmony but then there’s this, it’s rare and it gave me goosebumps and hit my heart. Fabulous piece Work of Art
I hear this exact verbal dance “X is really hurting, and yeah Y’s hurting too but Y’s the one who made the decision to end it” around a lot of breakups. I just think people forget that a lot of times Y made that choice because they were suffering IN the relationship.
This song is easily one of my favourites from Exile. Same with Evermore (from Evermore). He has such an incredible range and both songs…chills for days
I could listen to this song a million times. I fell in love with it and it easily became a top 5 (out of her discography). They are a perfect balance. Their voices are what I hope to hear when I cross the rainbow 🌈 bridge. Absolute perfection 🥰 💞
I've said this many times before, but you totally are one of my favourite reactors, if not THE favourite. You seem to pick up the vibe & subtle nuances of every song you dive into, not just the obvious ones. I usually agree with everything you say - you know how to put my feelings into words. Once again, thank you. (I might even forgive you of not knowing who Bon Iver is.) About the song: I remeber when "Folklore" dropped, and I really did not get the hype. I know Taylor is super popular and gets praised all the time, and I like some of her work, but I think she is just slightly overrated as an artist. I love her persona, the career, the talent and everything, but for me she is a bit too superficial. This song though! When I listened Folklore the first time, this one stood right out. It is the song on that album hands down, and I couldn't stop listening to it. Bon Iver was the perfect artist for her to duet with; their voices complement eachother, and he sounds so honest in this. I believed every word they sang. Definitely one of my favourite tunes in 2020. Great song.
This is one of my favorite songs literally ever. I've always loved the contrast of gritty male vocals with beautiful, smooth female vocals (Nymphetamine by Cradle of Filth ft. Liv Kristine & Broken by Seether ft. Amy Lee were two of my favorite growing up), but this is both that contrast and one of the most beautifully written songs I've ever heard. The give & take, the wisdom and experience necessary to write the story it tells, it's a masterpiece.
The most beautiful song about loss. I absolutely love Justin Vernon.. my favourite artist ever. Their voices are perfect together. And of course the wonderful Aaron Dessner on piano.. The album Folklore, Taylor worked with Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver (Justin Vernon) through all of this album.
I've been listening to this song alot. As someone who's been through a situation like this makes me wanna cry. This song and their voices are perfect. It's a real masterpiece ❤️
One of the greatest reactions I've seen. You could actually feel him feeling this song...he couldn't even stop, and we didn't want him to stop it either! 🥹
Your reaction was so good to watch! This might be one of the most beautiful songs ever written and you got it; body and soul. I haven't personally experienced this situation but I can feel it when they sing. No matter how many times I listen to this song, it still brings tears to my eyes. Their voices are stunning together and the lyrics are so clever. The irony in the two opposing perspectives is heartbreaking - there was clearly love on both sides but they just weren't communicating so now they're both hurt and blaming each other. I will never get bored of this song!
I’m so glad that you really hear this fantastic song. It touched my heart. The music is far from technical, it’s powerful and passionate which is why it’s so good. His voice seemed surreal. His Gorgeous Baritone/Bass Vocals were commanding. I loved it
I just started watching your reaction videos and this is probably my favorite so far! You looked so mind blown the whole time 😂 that's exactly how I was when I heard it for the first time!
It took a while for Folklore to grow on me since I wasn't that familiar with Taylor's music, but damn this is SUCH a good album😫 You should definitely check Bon Iver's proyects
the long pond videos kinda have an attached like clip where they talk about the song, the meaning, writing or anything really related to the song, it's quite interesting
I really love Tylor’s choice of words, “It took you five whole minutes” is kinda ironic, because it says WHOLE, as if it’s something a lot, while they’re actually just minutes, lol idk how to explain the beauty in that i hope u get it😵💫
Bon Iver is his Bands name, his name is Justin Vernon, he is the lead singer. This was filmed during Covid, so he wore a mask, and they were not in the same studio. I agree, this is my favorite duo of all time. Still, Exile is #2 on my list of Favorite Taylor Swift songs. #1 is, All Too Well, Taylor's10 min version).
There is a reason this song was nominated for a Grammy as best collab. Didn’t win but this song is probably one of the many reasons folklore won AOTY.
Well yes, doesn't stop a mansplainer from mansplaining though 🙄😬
@@pearlobrien5712 I'm confused, what does that have to do with his comment?
This song should have won the Grammy. I am upset it didn't
@@kuivia yea
@@ishita3472 As much as I love Lady Gaga. But Exile should have won over Rain on me.

It must have really helped Joe to have something to work on, during the Lockdown.
Joe and Bon should work together. I'm just saying. Imagine Joe writing and Bon singing, it would be amazing 😭
The duo is the most phenomenal collaboration ever happened in history. Their voice with each other were just breathtaking
Taylor and Bon Iver (his real name is Justin Vernon) made another song together called 'evermore' from the album 'evermore'. it's not quite the same as exile but it grows on you.
And they did Renegade together I believe
I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion but I personally prefer evermore over exile lol
Exile=Renegade>>>Evermore>>>>Birch
Didn't evermore get a grammy nom for best song
It definitely grows on you,
This is one of the most beautifully written songs I've ever heard. I can talk about it for hours but in conclusion, it's a masterpiece.
This song got me to check out Taylor's music, I knew she was a great songwriter but after this I felt it with every single piece of my heart. Beautiful.
Can't believe it lost out on the Grammy.. At least she got album of the year for folklore
I have never listened to Taylir much. Justun Vernon is from my father family's home town and well known around here.
Love this song.
The way she wrote this sad song with her fiance
I love it too. The cry in his voice is heartbreaking. She is a lyrical genius
This song doesn't have a music video. Taylor released official lyrical videos for the whole album. You can give them a try. Both folklore and evermore are lyrical masterpieces 💜❤️
I just imagine the finale of "You" season 3 when I think of a video. This song goes so well when Joe is killing love and framing the story.
I think it would be awesome ifTaylor would do a video of this. It would be heart wrenching. She is so talented.
You don't hear Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) sing low all that much. He tends to live in the falsetto range. He's genius. Highly recommend his albums. Nice reaction.
Yes would love if he reacted to bon iver
This song is beautiful and tragic at the same time. So unfair they didn't win the Grammy.
I was so frustrated...I thought that they would win it
politics. quality isn't the priority with them atm
When they used the song in "You" it became so much more tragic than it already was.
This Song is 🔥 It deserved a Grammy.
U mean scammys
It already got a Grammy in duo category.
@@lucifermorningstar7723 it only received nomination..
@@ExtreMe-uk4lm then who won though?
@@lucifermorningstar7723 i think rain on me won
I know this is an old video, but this is my favorite reaction to this song 😭❤️ I cant stop watching
One of my favorite reactions too. Thank you
Soon as Bon Iver starts to sing his voice gives me goosebumps! Beautiful what a gift!
One of the most beautiful songs ever!
They harmonize so well together. Exile, Evermore and Renegade are masterpieces, they never disappoint when they collaborate, they need to do it again in the future tbh.
this is my favorite song from folkrore and evermore, Bon Iver voice is mesmerizing
Exile and coney island highlight Taylor's lyricism and vocals in such a nice way with justin and matthew's lower vocals its amazing
At 4:00 when you said, "STOP!" That was a dramatic moment when he started up again with her. Just f***ing amazing. Heartfelt Heartbreaking and genuinely an amazing duet.

lmaoo when u say “woahah stoppp, did u hear his voice in the background” such a mood, love this song😂😂❤️
It feels so universal, that miscommunication that can ruin what should have been a good thing.

Thank you very much, so glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
I completely agree, music is so special and beautiful in all its different forms
One of my favorite duets of ALL TIME!
I'm still super upset this song didn't win a Grammy.
“The dudes voice though” “I love his voice” I can’t stop laughing😂 great vid🫶
one of my all time favorites for sure
This is the most beautiful song ❤
It’s a good one. Very good
this is a masterpiece

oh wow...witnessing someone witness Justin for the first time, moved me to tears. Music is magic & humans are still beautiful. Love this.
My new favorite Taylor song ❤
this proves that folklore is taylor's best album vocally
I'd really hope they collaborate again bc their voices together are literal heaven
Awww you reacted to Exile, it is a beautifully sad song sincerely hahaha, but without a doubt their voices complement each other and it sounds great, one of the best songs on the album

Chills every time I hear it. Just the raw and real pain of a relationship that dies. Stunning song.
I love that Taylor’s partner Joe Alwyn (who is a UK actor) wrote the start of this just playing around during lockdown.
I absolutely LOVE how he takes time to give us his point of view of the lyrics! And how he really appreciates the song. Keep doing what you're doing :)
Omg my top 3 on folklore. It's so so good. MASTERPIECE.
This song brought me in a different time in my life 😢❤so delicate …
You have to take a look at Bon Iver’s other songs. He's incredible and very talented
Yes! He would love his music

This and peace are my absolute favorites off folklore. this is a beautiful emotional song
I know bon iver from his song "skinny love" and I've been loving this song by taylor and him! Thanks for the reaction!
What I love about this song is the contrast between their voices and the call and response about the signs given (or not given).

They have (since you left this comment).

Great reaction. Huge Bon Iver fan and this was a phenomenal collab

i've never been much of a taylor swift fan, but i love bon iver & absolutely adore this song, i agree that their voices go together beautifully
I haven't listened to Bon Iver in too long. I need to go do that again!
