Every single person to ever work with Taylor Swift says she is the easiest artist they worked with. Her work ethic is just superb. Queen of productivity!
I’m not even Taylor Swift but I find hard to fall asleep ‘cause my brain wouldn’t stop thinking. Difference is that she makes millions from that and I got a headache.
same! And I've tried turning those thoughts into various forms of art (sketching, painting, music) but it's impossible for me, guess I'm just not as artistically inclined as I wish. So the fact that she can do that is especially incredible to me
Taylor has been open about how she was bullied in middle school and some time in high school. She once said that whenever she was having a bad day at school, she would comfort herself by saying “it’s ok, I can write a song about this later”. Writing songs, journaling, and playing her guitar are what kept her happy during bad times which is true even till this day. I think that’s why she’s such an amazing writer, she understands how to convey emotions in lyrics because she has been doing that since middle school. But then again, because it’s so true that her songs are like her diary, a lot of people sadly criticize her for being too personal or vulnerable in her music. Taylor is honestly an amazing artists, can’t wait to see what she’s doing in like 10 years.
One of my favorite lyrics of hers is from the song Story of Us. It goes “I’ve never heard silence quite this loud”. She has a ton of clever lines in that song. And also in the song Mine she says “you made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter”. I noticed that she uses a lot of opposing words or imagery to make a point.
I love that lyric in "Mine" as well! Some of my favorite of her lyrics are: "That was a small town, there in my rearview mirror disappearing now" - White Horse "You know I didn't want to have to haunt you, but what a ghostly scene" - my tears ricochet "Gain the weight of you then lose it / believe me, I could do it" - tolerate it (there are so many good lyrics in that song it's hard to pick just one, but that one always hits me hard) "And I lived in your chess game, but you changed the rules every day" - Dear John "'Cause shade never made anybody less gay" - You Need to Calm Down "I don't have to be your shrink to know you'll never be happy" - I Bet You Think About Me "Breaking down and coming undone, it's a rollercoaster kinda rush" - That's the Way I Loved You "'Cause baby I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me" - New Romantics "People throw rocks at things that shine, and life makes love look hard; the stakes are high, the water's rough, but this love is ours" "And she is yelling at a bridesmaid, somewhere back inside a room wearing a gown shaped like a pastry" - Speak Now "People love an ingénue" - Nothing New (seriously, who the heck knows that word?) "And you're tied together with a smile but you're coming undone" (I love this lyric so much) "I told myself 'Don't get attached' but in my mind I play it back spinning faster than the plane that took you" - Come Back... Be Here And to finish it off, just the entire bridge of Sad Beautiful Tragic. "Distance, timing, breakdown, fighting, silence, train runs off its tracks / Kiss me, try to fix it; could you just try to listen? Hang up, give up, for the life of us we can't get back." I think I could keep going for a couple hours honestly. There are just so many!
It blew my mind recently listening to her debut album how clever her lyrics were even as a teenager "Our song is a slamming screen door, sneaking out late, tapping on your window" is such a creative metaphor
Taylor does have a very extended vocabulary. Sometimes, even a native British person, I've had to look up a word from one her songs because I never heard of it before. Like in her song from folklore called 'the last great american dynasty', there's a line in the first verse that says "the wedding was charming, if a little gauche" - I'd never heard of that word gauche before
yep, cause that's a French word. Means "awkward", "clumsy". Originally it means "left" (as in the opposite of right), so I think it meaning "clumsy" comes from a long time ago when being a lefty was considered a bad thing and everyone was forced to use their right hand for everything and so the lefties (gauchers, in French) were clumsy.
@@tinklady2091 omg I totally thought it meant like, tacky or something lol! Ok but can we talk about how she wrote the original 10 minute All Too Well on the spot at Speak Now tour rehearsal and the sound guy just happened to record it
The two songs you mentioned sounded good are: 10:47 King of My Heart 12:57 Getaway Car The "religious" sound - Don't Blame Me The "ominous" song - I Did Something Bad all from the Reputation album. It is said to be the "you either love it or hate it" kind of album because of how different it is from Taylor's usual sound.
I remember a tweet Taylor posted years ago about how she was out somewhere with her family and she was standing there, staring off into space. Her brother came up and said something to her and she said, “sorry, I was writing a song in my head.” And he just replied, “oh sorry, didn’t realize you were working.” and slowly backed away.

most of the clips that are in there are songs from reputation. king of my heart, delicate, and getaway car. those were the times when the beef was pretty present with her and kanye. reputation is a full pop album i can say. songs that are in there is for revenge? or just release or express her anger and also love songs for her partner, joe.
I really enjoyed your thoughts on this video and that you commented a lot while it was playing. Regarding her using common phrases, in that particular interview she meant that she likes to take a common phrase and twist it. For example, LGBTQ+ members are sometimes told to 'calm down' when they just simply want to freely express themselves. So in her song, Taylor takes this phrase, commonly used by haters, and points it against them, revealing that it's actually them who have some issues with anger management and 'need to calm down'. However, Taylor is also great in what you mentioned - finding unique ways of saying common things. She's been improving this area of her writing a lot too. In a song from 2019 she sings: Windows flung right open, autumn air/ Jacket 'round my shoulders is yours. In 2020 it is: 'November flush and your flannel cure'. The meaning is almost the same but the lyric is much more concise and poetic.
I love delving into lyrics of songs. I drive my family crazy. They just want to listen to a song. I like pause the songs right in the middle and talk about the words. Taylor is one of the greatest songwriters who has have ever lived.
Michelangelo said of sculpting: "The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material." And that's what I think of when I watch Taylor write songs.
YES, she has an amazing vocabulary, perfect for writing lyrics, plus the talent to put lyrics to music, using her piano, or strumming her guitar, or just humming the sound she wants. Taylor was hired at age 14 to write lyrics for other artists. She did that for 2 years. The woman she partnered with said Taylor is a savant at writing lyrics. She has also written songs for many other artists. Taylor was Inducted into Nashville's Producers & Engineers, after one of the sessions on this video, where she talks about "Shake it off". If you can find that video, it's so great. Taylor describes herself as a lyricist that happens to sing. She said if she had to choose, she would choose to write lyrics/songs over performing. I gave a LIKE and SUBSCRIBED because I loved your reaction to this! Additionally to this, I liked how you nailed the way she hears something and describes into a whole something else (synonyms). I'll be checking more of your channel because you're so good at what you do! BRAVO!!
I feel the same way about any way of art and it is a sad feeling that it can’t be seen, heard, or felt by any others, at times. The one thing I respect about TS is that she’s incredibly ambitious and her famil absolutely used all of their great resources to keep encouraging her passion. If everyone had just an ounce of her ambition and support, lord. The world would be far more colorful. She’s so naturally talented but also has the unique combination of natural talent and ambition, mixed with the ability of being supported in learning music theory and multiple instruments. She was told if she really loved this, then every part of her will go into school and music. It’s amazing. Her music is her literally mind. I bet those cell phones are going to be auctioned for trillions one day 😂😂😂
I have this on repeat... am here watching this again... Aside from enjoying Tay doing her creativity.... I like seeing your reactions to her... So cool!! ❤😅🎉
when she says writing it in a song imo she means that literally, translating the feelings/events to sound - play the music (taylor's songbooks - not all arrangements on the web are hers) yourself - you'll hear the words written musically as conversation, the emotions (pent up unshed tears in atw), the whine in your voice when you can't keep it from slipping because you're so upset (should've said no, and others), betty if you play the right hand is like that small voice in the english patient when hana sings to kip - the voice is the only true thing in the darkness...
I think I have the same way of expressing how or why the way I do I think it's easier for a vulnerable person to sound out or describing how you felt on that time.
My husband makes house music as a hobby! He never hears any lyrics. I’m the opposite. I hear a song once and I’m knowing the story straight away. Every lyric is in my head immediately,
I’m really late to this video but you reacted positively to nearly every song on Reputation. If you haven’t listened to the whole album, you must! It’s so so good!
Just watching this now (2024) and to your last point: That is exactly what she said about her upcoming album. She needed to write the tortured poets department. She was going through a breakup of a longterm relationship and she needed to write to work through her pain. Wonderful and crushing at the same time 🥺
also with changing up the lyric, is it more like searching for the 'fit', the shape that fits, the sound that fits, feeling it out to every corner, boxing the compass. The 'true' note...
Coolest part about this video is that the original seems to take for granted that its viewer is familiar with the finished versions of the songs (e.g. we know what they sound like, how the lyrics continued to change, and when the video changes which song it is featuring). It's cool that even without that context (from what I can tell) you have picked up on her insane talent. I highly recommend you check out Reputation, then once you fall in love with that take on 1989, then once familiar with that go forward to Lover or backward to Red depending on which one strikes you at first listen. Just generally expand outward from Reputation - I think you will really love that record.
Isn't she amazingly talented? There's a great doc, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, that kinda picks up where this left off, in terms of her catalogue. It's only on Disney+ though :/
An amazing vocabulary ! Also references Greek mythology. Reactors actually stop and google some of the words and phrases. She said not only do the lyrics and melodies come to her, but she can visualize the songs. That is the reason she started to direct her own videos instead of trying to explain her vision to a director. Genius !
Watching her “making of a song” videos really made me fall in love with her. I never disliked her. And I liked several songs but I wasn’t a “fan”. But, watching her process, it’s hard to not have massive respect for her process. Elton John has been so revered for his and Bernie Taupin’s incredible ability to create musical gems. But, Taylor seems to have the genius of both EJ and BT in one single body.
is super cool that you also mentioned NF, cuz in my mind i also found some similarities between them in the way they use music like therapy more than something they must do to get some money. Taylor and Nate are the best songwriters of our generation 🔥

But I agree that Taylor is a songwriting genius. I love her work so much.
I bet those cell phones are going to be auctioned for trillions one day 😂😂😂
Girl a genius indeed!

Some of the songs that you thought sounded good was on the Reputation album. Like Getaway car and King of my heart. You should react to the album.
Dude you really appreciated Taylor's music which not many people do. Thank you for this it means so much for us fans
“I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you” from Long Live is always a gut punch to me and I’m not sure why
5:17 Now “ME!” is called “the Meeheehee song” 🥰
Yes she did a NPR Tiny Desk, it’s so good, you got to watch it
This is so interesting as I've never seen any of these behind the scenes things before. Thanks for this reaction video!
It’s truly wild to hear her original “rough draft” lyrics compared to the final product
She wrote all too well during a sound check and they recorded it; like she wrote it live on the spot… like 🤯
My husband makes house music as a hobby! He never hears any lyrics. I’m the opposite. I hear a song once and I’m knowing the story straight away. Every lyric is in my head immediately,
Me too!
1:40 in my head, the video cuts here to Taylor on stage in The Eras Tour, saying she NEEDED to write this album [TTPD].

Wonderful and crushing at the same time 🥺
Taylor is so talented an deep into her music
LOVE THIS REACTION!!! ❤️❤️❤️
The day Taylor decides to actually sleep instead of writing songs we will all die.
love to hear more!
also with changing up the lyric, is it more like searching for the 'fit', the shape that fits, the sound that fits, feeling it out to every corner, boxing the compass. The 'true' note...
This video made me subscribe. I like you’re videos!
Yes she did Tiny Desk- it's fantastic!
Really enjoyed your sincere reaction. Thank you.
Isn't she amazingly talented? There's a great doc, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, that kinda picks up where this left off, in terms of her catalogue. It's only on Disney+ though :/
9:34 I felt this was discussing the “vows”. The I now take this … to be my lover”.
She’s also so brave to just bare her soul on every song on every album
If you are interested in the process of making reputation there are more clips from it! Recommended because she’s a genius ✌🏼
We love a king that stans getaway car and king of my heart
Man, you are so gorgeous!
The title should be: Watch me start having a crush on Taylor Swift in 19 minutes. :)
She’s so crazily talented. Her lyrics are the best no other artist an top her idc what yall say
jst love u guy. you get it
As a swiftie, great vid! I didn't skip the ads, hope that helps.
She is 💯💯💗
Yes, this was from her Tiny Desk, please make a video for that 🥺🙏🙏 I love your work
Great analysis, thanks. Love her!! So talented.
her mind 🔥
An amazing vocabulary ! Also references Greek mythology. Reactors actually stop and google some of the words and phrases. She said not only do the lyrics and melodies come to her, but she can visualize the songs. That is the reason she started to direct her own videos instead of trying to explain her vision to a director. Genius !
I agree with you .. I find NF n Taylor Swift very similar .. + they both write about real stuff..
Taylor Swift is a legend.
I love how I start learn about Taylor music and you watching vids with her now so I can learn with you about her talent hah, besties timing hahaha
If you don’t listen to all too well Taylor’s version I will cry
Taylor is an amazing artist. Another talented singer/songwriter is Avi Kaplan his new song First Place I Go is beautiful!
PLEASE react to taylor swift „ look what you made me do“ it’s the most iconic music video ever. I swear
I need someone to look at me the way this man looks at Taylor Swift
is super cool that you also mentioned NF, cuz in my mind i also found some similarities between them in the way they use music like therapy more than something they must do to get some money. Taylor and Nate are the best songwriters of our generation 🔥
i love watching someone become a swifte
You should do Lorde next, her song writing is pure Poetry.
Here i come after that one dude said he didn't like her cause she "doesn't write her own songs"🤦♀️
I WOULD DIE TO SEE YOU REACT TO HER NPR PERFORMANCE!!!😩😩
