i was hoping you were going to show the technique at your original tempo
Yeah it sounded way different, and she was going like stupid fast at the beginning
Goddamnit Neiman were you rushing or were you dragging 😵💫
Yeah same but it still sounded good, i didn't know this trick
Just use basic imagination or play it yourself
Humble grow@@HeavyRaiden
“If your 8th note grooves sound like this, play an entirely different groove at a different tempo.”
Well, once you have the technique locked it, it's just an increase of tempo
Shut up man
Well, you cant say doesnt work
Thats not what she said at all. If you have a brain nit doesn't matter if she plays the second example at a slower tempo, because you understand the principle and how it can be applied.
Comparing two grooves at different bpm's, totally accurate comparison 😂
Just try it bro
Bro doesn’t know how teaching works
Woman moment ☕️
ru slow
So you lack the ability to play it or use your imagination to know what it sounds like?
Thank you for walking us through the wrist movement a lot of people don't do that
Hey I just wanted to tell you the first 8 note thing sounded like la devote from panic at the disco
And you look nice;)
Every teacher will show you a demonstration. Consider taking a lesson or two! Moeller technique will be one of your first lessons.
@@major9137I was gonna say that it sounds like Let's Kill Tonight, but I guess they have really similar drum intros.
This was one of the first things I learnt from my drum teacher, but I guess it's something that might elude self-taught drummers
I love you! I'm a drummer of 60 years! Kit, djembe, dunun, jazz, rock, African, Cuban, etc. Love your videos!!!
Sound like full time? And then switches to half time for the demonstration? I get it, but you should play the same groove to showcase the differences. It just sounds like two different patterns.
You give great demonstrations. I love it!
This was objectively a bad demonstration
@@JauntyWhale the point of the video was a wrist technique, you can see it, its perfectly explained and then she puts it into practice with a clear cut demonstration. Its objectively a good demonstration.
@@kleinkaufman8940 except her two demonstrations were completely different grooves at different tempos. Go away.
@@JauntyWhale "the point of the video was a wrist technique"
Called the Moeller technique
You are Correct!!!
@@rumplestillskin6157 percussion instructor 🤘🏼
moeller* but yes same thing. it really helps when playing 16th notes and faster grooves
@@juliandep988 ahh spelling thank youuuuuu
@@juliandep988 would Möller be even more accurate spelling?
Another subtle, but effective addition to a simple groove.
Accenting is key if you want to stand out as a drummer. Bravo!
I started doing this subconsciously when learning
It's like book smart people and street smart people, drums are kinda easy to learn by ear for me cause I'm probably autistic maybe you too
Take on meeee🎶
This technique also helps you to develop speed for 16th notes later on down the line.
In your progression
Every single one of these videos, in the “after” groove they almost always add more kicks as well, as you did here. The whole groove was totally different? You’re doing so much more than JUST adding dynamics in your hi-hat rhythm.
It's art. Context and variety helps. No need to be so OCD to prove a point.
@@Proghead88 this is the furthest thing from art I’ve ever seen. This, is a RUclips drummer. To not know the difference is scary.
To those who know who Buddy Rich is, watch him lift his shoulders in unison with his tempo. He was helping to lift his hand position like this. At least that’s my theory. I’ve played like this and it’s not a quick adaptation. I found lifting my shoulders like Buddy helped a lot.
I played some Drums like that the other day. They sound pretty good.
I do something I call "rocking" where I keep the hand up but push it forward and back instead of straight up and down. So forward up, back down, over and over. Gives you that swing
Sounded like a bossa nova comp! ❤
Thank you very much. I gonna try this.
thas moeller right? I struggled with that for months. great stuff
It'll help when you want to learn the Moeller technique as well
I use a push pull technique that has the same results and when it comes to 16ths and 32s you do t get worn out.
Then, to sound real cool, invert the accents. Play the downbeat on the top of the hat, and the up beat on the edge. This will not only make your groove sound tighter, it'll also make you and easier drummer to mix when you're playing on an acoustic kit. A heavy hand on the hi-hat while playing a snare greatly limits the sound person, or mix engineer when it comes to how they can process the snare drum.
You are describing the Moeller technique. Going for the “freebee” up stroke is exactly that. If you and your viewers don’t know what Moeller is, please check out Jojo Mayer’s instructional on hand techniques.
That was one of my first lessons😂
The hand technique is called Molar or Push-pull. Also completely different groove and tempo in the demo?!? First groove slaps too, just gotta know when to use it.
molar technique, been playing drums for awhile now, the wrist movement does take a little getting used to when you first try it
Mmm its called an upstroke and keep your wrist somewhat tight but relaxed. Move your hand up with you second so you’re already on the the way up for the next tap
Thanks
the moeller technique looks so much easier than it is. i can do it but it feels harder than playing just straight 8th notes so my wrist gets tired and its supposed to be easier and less tiring, i wanna be able to do this effortlessly but its taking too much effort.
Why did you slow the tempo when you played "The Grove?
Not a drummer but I program drums for music production. Probably also great the other way around to emphasise the offbeat a bit more and retain clarity in the attack on 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Same. For me, I feel like it makes you a better programmer when you learn more stuff like this about actually playing the instrument you're sequencing. You can only pick up so much just from listening to music, stuff like this can bridge the gap and give you that extra little piece of insight that can get your drums sounding more natural. The big thing for me is it also depends on what sounds, triggers, and samplers you're using. If you're using boom bap one shots, you don't need too much dynamics, if anything you want to have as little as possible to an extent. But if you're using a high end drum sample library with a really high end sampler like Superior Drummer 3, the plugin is made to be natural and dynamic sounding as possible. So you want to know how to program sequences to make it sound as natural as possible.
One of the things I figured out was I'd look up how certain players or studios would tune their drums if a plugin allows me to tune the drum heads as opposed to just pitching the same samples up or down. It's not a common feature, but knowing to tune the snare a little lower for example and knowing the shell sizes and tuning for different specific players can be huge to getting the right sound and making the performance feel more natural. I'm always trying to pick up new techniques, and stuff like her shorts are awesome imo for little suggestions to help me build up a better understanding of the intricacies of even just maintaining a standard 4/4 pattern
@@greyklopstock7155 Modo drum by IKmultimedia is something I'd highly recommend for realistic drums. It's actually not sample but synth based but sounds absolutely incredible is way more customisable because of its synth fundamentals and you save a lot of space on your hardrive because you don't need Gigabytes of Samples. It's my absolute go to for anything that's supposed to sound realistic.
So you can actually take this technique, do it with both hands and offset them to get some really fast hand-to-hand flams ;) Push-pull technique goes hard in the marching scene
What brand is this electric drum
" its dynamics, dear" 😊
The first beat is a popular 80s beat with bands like the gogos
Reptilia by the strokes
God bless you Emma... I love your Spunk and Teaching Style

What's the kit?
When you 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and... it makes me.want to listen to Walla Walla by the Offspring
Que som de batera! Sou fã.
What is that kit looks awesome
efnote look on the bass drum
Efnote mini
Electronic drums really have come a long way… this sounds & looks so so so much better than the Roland kit I had 15 years ago

💕Multy-🧠Dimensional
It mostly just sounds like you’re playing quarter notes now. I understand the technique but those hits on the +’s is basically a ghost stroke.
Almost expected this to turn into Dancing With Myself.
this kit sounds exactly like the default electric kit sounds
So glad i picked up bass and guitar. No way i could play drums
I'm not a drummer but your teaching is incredible makes me want to pick up drumming haha
Thank you
'dont lose this pattern' *smirk and immediately lose pattern*
And now do it the same speed as that first thingy, yeah..?
Go watch Phil Rudd, he’s been putting down a groovy beat like this for AC/DC for decades, never misses a beat and always on time. True example of a solid drummer
Don't shank the hihat, even if it's a silly rubber one. Baseball batting your cymbals will make them sound rough, and will break them. Try playing the cowbell if you don't get what I'm saying. The cowbell wants to "ting" not "bonk".
My drum teacher taught me this at a very early stage, and ppl have been saying my grooves are tasty, so I'm assuming it works
one of the most important steps in learning drums! not only does it sound so much more natural, but your arms will get less tired
summin i like to do is contast grooves between having natural dynamics and the "robot-hats". shamelessly stolen from early qotsa songs 💃🥁
Also different bassdrum pattern
The first one was 100% a battle cats “ahh” groove
1,5,32 and 8,423
What is the L?
she's showing the moeller technique basically
"Accent the whole notes".
Got it.

Unless you’re playing drums for the strokes then you want those tk-tk-tks identical
I mean… AHA did it like that and still became a legendary hit.
Sounds nice
Does it "sound better", though?... 🤔
Very good
On that first groove, I heard Billy Idol come in behind you
Had a flashback
Guy in the back wearing a offspring shirt. More interested in that cause i already knew this trick
Lmao the way you name it a freebie 😂
is this the drummer version of alternate picking for stress on downbeats
I’m with the people, wondering why she didn’t do the same beat to demonstrate the difference in the technique.
Me sorprende el sonido del hihat al ser electrónico.
Sounds good
i might be acoustic but this is not the same tempo
I thoughts that was how u were to always do it 😂😂😂 I always do that
Is that an e drum kit?
Moeller method. Its been around for years.
As soon as she said one and two and three and ,,,, I thought of offspring and sure enough a guy wearing an offspring top😂
It’s easy just to play mollar on everything once you get the technique down. And not necessarily always for the better. Sometimes it’s a better idea to just play the hats straight. And she’s clearly trying to play a stiff example to turn this into a counterpoint
I'm the lego guy that is like 😯
Nice tip!
But you also changed the tempo
Or you can do ghost notes
Remember kids, emphasize the beat. . . unless you're intentionally defying expectations.
that's exactly how i play my 8th layered 10 shot...dance
"nothing wrong with them" - flams every kick drum
Sounds yummm.
This high hat technique is to drummers as cutting an onion is to internet chefs
yes just like mollar
Blinding light notes
Ah, that thing Phil Rudd always does to give the sauce to his beat(s).
Why you gotta call out the Take on me beat like that? 😭
Tyyyyy❤
That Moeller technique stuff is confusing
