      For real! It's so irritating that someone always seems to have something negative to say about anything! Such is the trade off for cyber world. We get this kind of wonderful stuff at our fingertips, yet all the crap as well. Loved the review!

      @@jagelka1 i agree with you. The negative comments have always bothered me. This is FREE information for us to look at and listen to. Take the good and put it in your bag of tools take what you feel is bad or not right for you and toss it. These fellows spend their valuable time to provide us with a service that is to our benifit. I am 66 years old. When I was starting out playing guitar we did not have the social media or technology that is right at our hands today. We had to struggle to learn to play or to acquire new knowledge about something. We had to actually drive or walk to the Music Store try out an instrument and talk to a live person. Now You Tube provides it in an instant. It is actually magical, Some people do not appreciate or understand just how lucky we are to be able to use and enjoy this technology. BTW I feel he did a great job and the guitar is awesome sounding in my humble opinion. Yes it is a cyber world and many hide behind their monitors and keyboards. Ok I am now off my soap box. And Chris I know this video is old but still thank you very much for your precious time and effort. Ram Flores Shelton, Wa.

    I bought one about a month ago and I love it. I've played for many years but recently had a motorcycle crash that put me in a wheelchair. It has changed my ability to hold a guitar for an extended amount of time but this 12e, with it's light weight and easy playability is just what the Dr ordered! Dude, I wish you would teach that song you always play. It's got a real atmospheric, melancholy sound that I love from an instrument.

      Great to hear. I broke my back in 2010 and had a dreadnought before and after, and now I know I need this as I have to replace my guitar after it got crushed. So sad but happy to be finally being able to chose a replacement for my guild.

    I absolutely love your reviews- don't listen to any trolls commenting! Your reviews are my go-to source for guitar info -- not so much the specs but your thoughts. You have really helped me understand build quality for different guitars and judge differences in tone among various models (your GS Mini series showed me that I am a GS Mini-e Walnut person). I truly love the pieces you play, which allow the guitars to shine and speak for themselves. THANK YOU!!!

    Everybody is labeling this guitar as a "beginner" guitar because it is easy to play and comfortable. So, non-beginners needs to struggle with their instruments and their "pro" status means thay must work harder? Nonsense. I am no beginner, but bought this guitar over a double priced ones I tried in a store (that I could afford). I chose this one because it plays better and sounds better. Anyone can benefit from having an instrument that do what you want from it with ease, not just beginners. BTW, I was trying guitars up to 1500 euros in a store, and this one didn't have tha price on it. I thought it must be in the 1000 euros-up range. When the clerk told me the price, I thought he was mistaken. I bought the guitar immediately and flew off the store... I can't be happier, i play it every day for hours.

      zismaer ... been playing 6 years. No beginner, not a pro by any means. Been playing a fender. Fiancé wanted to get me a new guitar for Christmas. Played Martins, Seagull, other Taylor’s as I was making my decision. I went home with this Exact guitar. As you said sounds bright and is a joy to play. Not sure why it’s labeled a Beginner guitar. Got it slightly used for $499..... perfect!

      I totally agree with your assessment. Why, if you are not a beginner, would you want a guitar that is hard to play? If a guitar is easy to play then doesn't it make sense to go with it. I tried the 10e and the 12e and thought they each sound amazing.

      For some of us, it is a beginner guitar. Just like Chris said. My first and only guitar was terrible. It kept me from ever learning 50 years ago. Now, spending more time at home and close to retirement. I'd like to learn - on a great guitar that sounds good. Update: I bought one and am trying to learn to play it. Blisters on the fingers have slowed down my practicing. So much to learn. Other things to practice to get the hang of.

    This guitar sounds absolutely amazing. After sampling through over a dozen guitars of various brands under around $600 ... this one sounded the best. It made guitars previously sampled that I thought sounded great sound kind of flat in comparison. The Taylor with Dreadnought body style was the same price and sounded slightly richer and slightly louder but I went with this grand concert body style shown in this video because the shape and size was much more comfortable and fit me better. It is very comfortable. Love the beveled edge for your forearm.

    I played one of these in a local music shop and couldn't put it down. That tells me something right there. The reviewer here did an excellent job of going over the features. Everything he said was important in understanding how much value they crammed into this guitar. And that bevel where your arm rests is a small thing that makes the guitar so much more comfortable to play. Taylor has removed a lot of obstacles for beginners but i should stress that this guitar is good for the intermediate or experienced player as well. It plays like a dream and is ultra-responsive to your touch. I can imagine singer-songwriters being inspired by this guitar and getting a lot of use out of it. I need one and so do you! 😁

    Thanks for sharing your story. I can only imagine how difficult it was for you having grown up with IGA (Inferior Guitar Affliction) imposed on you by your mother at such a young impressionable age. The lasting affects of IGA could have had a devastating effect on your future as a musician. Listening to you tell that story today, I can tell it’s still painful on a deeper level. Fortunately it appears that out of all your IGA suffering it has given you a greater appreciation for the quality guitars being mass produced today.

    While not exactly my first guitar, it was a guitar my dad got for me. (Long story short, I was playing a talent show, and hours before the show, my guitar broke, so my dad found a used 12e and brought it for me to play.)
    I know this may disqualify me from having any credibility as a guitarist, but I love it so much, I don't plan to replace it. I'm not a beginner, but this guitar is so good to me I can't part ways with it. It's such good value for money, I highly recommend it.

      Last week I was trying the Academy 12e, and the Big baby too, and my opinion is: The Big baby has more resonance, and better Bass sounds like Academy, but the Academy has more comfortable neck, and that's important for me, because I have sore fingers, but I think, the Big baby Is better for strumming. (i'm a singer).
      So, which one You recommend for me?
      Sorry about my bad English, I need to learn more.. :)

    This video was informative and helped me decide which Taylor guitar I wanted to purchase. I watched it again after finding a Taylor Academy 12 on line (it was not easy; most dealers have to wait for orders), but I found one, the last one in stock and I bought it. Your excellent video has only confirmed my decision to purchase the Academy 12. Thanks a lot. BTW , I also own an Ibanez V70CE, which I really like and I would be interested in seeing you make a video about that guitar. I really like my Ibanez, but it is a full size dreadnought and kind of bulky, so I was interested in finding a smaller size guitar with light strings that was easier to handle plus I wanted to up-grade from a decent Chinese guitar to a superior Mexican or American guitar without having to go into the price range only frequented by successful professional musicians. Thanks again for your informative video.

    I'm between this 12e and the 114ce, they honestly both sound great to me and though I know the 114 should be better I don't know if its worth the increased price. I'm a singer/worship leader so the 114ce looks more ready for stage, but the 12e could be so nice and comfortable for smaller acoustic settings. I'm also stumped on which one would compliment female vocals better. Do you have some advice?

    • @judeshk
      @judeshk 6 лет назад +3

      If you are more into finger picking, 12e will sound more clear, but if you are more into strumming, 114 will sound fuller and louder. The decision should be up to your guitar playing style.

  • @talmadgeskillman7678

    This may have just convinced me to buy one. I'm not a beginner, but I'm not a pro either. I've been playing for about 7 years now and my daily driver has been an old (granted really good quality) Alvarez dreadnought' that my grandmother bought my uncle back in the 80s that he never played. Then my first acoustic electric was a $150 Luna which for the price point was great, but plugged in it sounded horrid. Now I'm trying to upgrade and find something that's kind of a do everything guitar. I play mostly soft acoustic and folk style music so I think this guitar would be perfect for me. I've been so torn on which guitar to go with after playing so many I haven't really latched on to within my price range of $1000 (but the less I can spend and still get the best quality the better. I am a broke college student after all haha). I've played Martins, which I love, but Martins just don't offer anything that I like in my price range. These Taylors in the $500-$750 range have really impressed me. I've also had my eye on the 114e. But again thank you for the review! I'm going to keep doing my research, but this video definitely put this guitar atop my list.

    Definitely agree with beginners needing a well setup and low action because they don't have the precision nor strength in their fingers for playing chords. Because of these issues they will be pressing hard on the strings to make the chords sound out. Plus the thumb muscle won't hurt them as much on this academy guitar than it would on other with higher string action.

    ps. great content, this channel is awesome

    So gs mini vs academy 12, what do you think is all around better? Played both and love both. Gs mini mahogany was out of stock so i got the 12e. I play at coffeehouses, the boardwalk, and mainly fingerpicking, blues, james taylor and jack johnson type stuff. Is the gs mini loud enough and have the same neck spec (besides scale) or should i stick with the 12e. I dont plug in much but the feature is nice to have.

    Is this guitar meant only for fingerpicking and using light picks? I found this one at a Guitar Center and I thought it sounded great while using a .73mm Dunlop Tortex. But I'm just a beginner so I might not know better. What's your opinion? Thanks.

      If you are a strummer i would not get this guitar. I owned 1 and loved to finger pick on it. Strumming it sounded not as good. Not bad but it wasnt loud and thats due to the body shape. Its catered to finger picking

    I need an honest opinion. I want a guitar for more fingerstyle that has a good projection for that style. I'm looking at this one, a seagull s6 or maybe a yamaha guitar. Any recommendations? Need to stay in this price point.

      Dude i own one of these and i own a martin d-12. My d12 is my strumming and flatpicking guitar. The taylor is my finger picker. There is no better fingerpicking guitar for under 1000. Wait till you try the arm rest. It was built to be fingerpicked trust me

      The guitar center guy said these came with Elixir coated acoustic strings in (.012-.053) but he recommended the ever so slightly lighter (.011-.052) as replacement strings.

      Nancy Ferguson i own a washburn comfort series and it plays very good. Not as easy to play as this taylor 12e but it plays good and sounds great. The washburn is super heavy and the taylor is super light. For the price i would say get the taylor but you cant go wrong with either guitar

    Super newb question from someone looking for there first guitar. Keep seeing this is good for finger picking, does that mean you can't strum? What's that mean exactly?

    • @debbiewheeler4066
      @debbiewheeler4066 4 года назад

      You can certainly strum. I have This model guitar along with a couple Martin guitars. Strums just as well as those.
