This problem not only in paris! I was expat in paris and many big cities in different countries and i saw the same like what happened to you in the metro! Its not a French thing!!! I don’t know why she try to show french people are bad or france its so bad!! I was living there for 19 years and the life there very good and people were so kind!! Not like she said in one video that the woman always in metro will say off to the children !!! Not always that happened!!! She said that in video like you always will see this people who will harass you and women saying off to children!! I was there!! My sister living there tell now with her children and they are noisy and that not happened to them!! Right few times it happened!! Even about people who peeing in paris!! Its not french thing!! That happen in london, Newyork, San Francisco and i think a lot of big cities!! Maybe in her country too! I will ask people about this!! Also in San Francisco you will find dog and human poops in the street!! I think she was not living in the capital city of new Zealand!! Cause in quora website a lot of people share their experiences in the capital city in her country and the people there complained that the people not nice and the people in her country are very racist!! I surprised when she saying about the nurse here in her video when she saying from my language she knows that im not French so she not treated me will!!! Why she always have negative look!!! Why she didn’t think she was in stress cause there is shortness of nurses there?! I was nurse in paris and I know there is shortness in the nurses in paris!! She just accusing her because she thaught that?!! She is not sure that she treated her like this because she is foreigner!! And also that happened in every country too!! In quora there is question why the American physician are rude?!! So that happened in every country cause good and bad people in everywhere!! No generalized!! And I surprised more when I know from the people who were living in new zealad that the people there so bad and racist and they look to them as a foreigner when they loose their job, they look to the foreigners like how you have a job and im citizen and don’t have a job !! And complaining that the people envious! A lot of people complaining from the people in her country!! So why she talk about the others country if she had the same problem in her country?!! If she was not living in the capital city in her country its not fair to always compare it with paris!! She have to compare the capital with capital city cause most of the problems happened in capital city only!!! I wish if i can go to paris again!! Cause the people there really were good, helpful and loyal! But i go back to my country! Always we are not seeing the problems in our country cause we are citizens! We didn’t ask the expat or immigrants in our countries! Thats why we will surprise when we moved to other country but if we ask the expats or immigrants in our country we will see the same!

My mother is an English nurse who worked in French clinics almost 40 years. She would always tell me how patients insisted on her being the nurse to take care of them because the other nurses were so rough. They'd definitely do with some overhauling in the field of being more human.

Oh Rosie, so sorry to hear about those bad experiences in my country. We definitely don't have a great customer service. Leaving in America, I really enjoy how much nicer people are, customer service is amazing!! I hate those disgusting men and pickpockets in the subway and streets. I believe it can happen anywhere like there are good and bad people everywhere.

    • @TheFrederic888

Of course almost everything can happen anywhere. But the point is that the scale is not everywhere the same. Some of my friends on Hong Kong lost their smartphones and computers in public area and they could collect them back several days afterwards. Japan is the same. French who came there thought I was crazy not looking every second at my belongings. Just one example. Every single of my colleagues who went to Paris had a “pickpocket “ experience, despite our warnings. They uses to travel the world but Paris was an outlier in this area. So no, it’s not everywhere the same.

I’m sorry I disagree. I live in New York & I’ve also lived in Louisiana and California. In California men will flash you in public places if no one is around. In Louisiana, men will only put their penis on you if you are alone with them without witnesses or they will seduce you and kidnap you then return you back home. In New York, men will flash you in public … but no one will ever just grab you! That’s another level of pervert! I’ve known a Haitian man who spoke fluent French. He was definitely the type to just grab you & stare. That’s a French thing & it’s nothing to play with.

I don't know about that, I have travelled quite widely and only ever had this sort of thing happen in Paris. I accidentally once left my wallet on the street in Sydney when I stopped to tie up my shoe and had it returned to my home (an hour from Sydney) by the local police 2 weeks later with all of the money and cards still in it. Now I live in a country town I once left my wallet (many years later) in the trolley at the supermarket outside and returned 3 hours later and it had been returned also with the money still in it.

I have mixed experiences with nurses in England, but when they were so "warm" to me I found it rather fake and exaggerated, as if they were forced to behave like that to avoid any kinds of complaints from the patients. Can't they just behave normally, as if they were dealing with human adults, not kids they have to educate or love?

Now I live in Australia and dang the change is unreal. I was so afraid to be pregnant here and being mistreated but the nurses were amazing! So gentle and caring even the firm ones.

Hey Rosie, great video :) I get sad from time to time about not being able to fly to France to visit my friends & family due to Covid restrictions. And then I stumble on your video which reminds me some of the reasons why I left my native country in the first place after living in its 2 biggest cities. There are things I miss, but all the stuff you mentioned - and many others - contribute to a not so great lifestyle on a daily basis. I'm pretty sure growing up in Marseille, where you constantly have to watch your back for pickpockets, where everything is so dirty, etc, hugely contributed to my anxiety. I'm so grateful I now live in a city where I can wear whatever I want, walk wherever I want at whatever time of the day, and not get scared of anything happening to me. Sending love from Sydney xx

Sorry you got so mistreated, when they should have been supportive and caring. I had a c section with my first baby, it left me feeling so weak and vulnerable, I remember asking a nurse to wait outside whilst I took a shower, she did and helped me back to my bed after, it made a huge difference to me. Funny enough, I wanted to breastfeed but was making a poor job of it, also got very sore with cracking and bleeding. A cleaner who was from Africa actually helped and gave me better advice than the nursing staff! The nurses seemed to be encouraging me to bottle feed. This was in England 24 years ago.

Your middle aged guy in the trench coat feeling you up on a crowded train is not a particularly Parisian phenomenon. When I was 12-14 in New York City going to school on the subway, it would happen to me and my friends routinely. I was mortified and finally told my mother. She told me it had happened to her and her friends too! She repeated the advice she had been given: say in a loud clear voice that the man touching your crotch better stop or...[whatever threat you like]. We called those guys mashers. The first time I spoke up after that, everyone near me started looking for the creep who was bothering me, and the hand disappeared immediately. The key is to speak up- the threat doesn’t matter. Mashers don’t want to be identified or confronted, they just melt away when you use your voice. Pathetic.

"Anti Parisianism" seems to be trending in some provincial parts of France...
Yes, Paris is a big urban area and it's not only the idyllic image often depicted in fictions. But it's far from being hell, especially if you enjoy culture.
Not only you'll find some of the greatest things France has to offer, but you'll also have products and cultures from all around the World.
I live in Toulouse, a provincial town and I enjoy it but it's incomparably poor compared to what Paris has to offer in terms of activities, culture or food. There's also rats and criminality in Toulouse.

Thank you for posting this. I've had literally all of these bad experiences in Paris and I'm French, so I don't think any are because of your accent. On Ave de Clichy a man grabbed my crotch as I was passing him on the sidewalk. I yelled "connard" and he ran away but I was so shocked I did nothing else. Also had a black and blue foot for weeks before the doctor finally accepted to do a scan and saw it was broken in several places. Crutches in Paris is the worst - I don't know how people with physical disabilities function in this city. However I also experienced very bad bedside manners when I gave birth in the US, with staff not believing me that my epidural wasn't working and yelling at me. So maybe bad healthcare is not entirely a French problem...

Hi, sorry for your bad experience in health care. But as someone who unfortunately have spent too much time in hospitalS in France of course ( different cities), I have to say that most nurses are really nice and kind. Thankfully never had any bad experience. Doctors are different though they tend to be more harsh ESPECIALLY surgeons from my multiple experiences. They focus on fixing you and get quickly to the next patient and I can't blame them for that. That's their main job, fixing all patients. But the Intern Doctors and nurses and Dr/anesthesiste tend to be the nicer ones. And that's also part of their job to spend time/talk to you before and after the "main Doctor" is done.

There's no manhood in any male that harasses, or assaults, any woman or girl. It is really deranged that some males think they are intellectuals when the concept of fairness and decency is something that they don't have the intellect to understand (it isn't fair that many males don't want anyone to harass or disrespect them, but they think they can be disrespectful towards others and it is also unfair that males walk around with peace in mind that nobody will likely harasses them, while women and girls are constantly worried, causing some girls to have headaches, insomnia, anxiety and other things). I had a really bad knee injury in France and was sent away with dislocation, ruptured cruciate ligament and hemorrhaging into my knee. We got to the UK and saw a doctor there and he was horrified and I was in theatre within 2 hours. It took two operations and a year's physio to recover. On the flip side my friend's daughter had leukaemia and had amazing care.

Hello I’m so sorry for your bad experience. I hope it’ll never happen again, but recently the Paris RATP and police have amped up their actions against sexual harassment in the metro. There are cameras everywhere in the metro. With a broad description and the approximative time you were in the train and the station the man got off, they could have identified him, especially if it was during his commuting time. I think there’s also an app or a site where you can signal an attack. Some men think they can get away with it and they need to learn the hardest way it’s unacceptable. Even me as a man I got flashed once in Châtelet, and another time a guy sitting opposite me kept touching himself while staring at me. It was chilling. I wasn’t afraid but so creeped out. I’m sorry to got to experience that in my city. It’s a great but harsh place to live, it makes foreigners like you who share their interest and appreciation for our culture even more valuable. Cheers

I definitely feel your pain on some of these points. I lived in Paris for about a year, 1989-90. I got flashed and had hard-ons pressed up against me more times than I can count. I got blasé enough about it that when the most blatant thing happened, I just couldn't be bothered: My metro car was getting a bit full, but still wasn't too crowded to use the strapontins, and when I got on, a young guy offered me his. In the next couple of stops, the car got a bit fuller, but I still felt OK keeping my seat, that is, until the guy who had been so "polite" proceeded to try to get himself off (no exposed flesh, at least) between my shoulder and the back of the seat. I rolled my eyes and leaned forward enough to leave him high and dry. I was tired and sure wasn't giving up my seat!
The terrorist attacks struck me harder than they might have 25 years after my time there because I lived in the Rue Alibert, and in those pre-cell days I often used payphone just on the intersection where the two restaurants were attacked.

Luckily they were pretty obviously dodgy about it so I immediately put my hands in my pockets, only to feel another hand slide in over mine. Again luckily, they weren't into physical violence so I could move away without losing anything or getting hurt.

If I had a foreign friend moving to France, and looking for a job, I would definitely not recommend Paris. In terms of safety, and overall experience of France, there are much better cities to live in, like Lyon, Nantes, Strasbourg... I lived in Bordeaux, Paris and Grenoble, and by far Paris is the worst. However, you can get mugged in any French city. I got mugged in Bordeaux. Although Grenoble seems like the worst (coz it's known for its urban riots in the South parts), for me it was the best. The tram is great, the food is great, you're so close to the mountains... It's by far the least attractive large city in France (maybe with Saint Etienne), but for some reason it's very nice to live there. Paris is too dirty, too noisy, and too unsafe in general. If you're not a strong man, you're gonna get bad experiences like yours for sure, and even then, you're up for some weird shit. I had a homeless guy following me and trying to hit me coz I didn't want to buy him a coffee. I was hit by a car (not badly) when I had the green light on a pedestrian crossing.

These are nothing like my two stays in a hospital, once for a broken ankle. In that case I went to the Georges Pompidou. It was Sunday so a bit crowded, but only an hour or two wait. A young doctor had me x-rayed. When it came back, it didn't clearly show anything, but she wasn't satisfied and sent me in for another one which showed a fracture in a small bone. A perceptive doctor.
It was too late to operate, so I was sent to a nearby smaller hospital that had a room. The next day I was operated on and had to spend a second night in the hospital. Then the third day, they gave me crutches and brought me an ambulance which took me to my apartment building and the two people in it insisted on helping me to my apartment even though I had an elevator.
Everyone was very kind and none of it cost me anything because of the Sécu and my mutuelle. The other stay was not so serious. After seeing a couple or so of your videos, I think that you are too concerned about yourself and not suited to living in a foreign country.

Sexual harassment was prolific in Rome as well but for the most part they were kind of "ugh this is annoying/gross" rather than scary. Not that this excuses it, of course. About the worst thing that happened to me was being flashed while I was out with a friend near a tourist area and a situation where I was getting off the metropolitana and felt that I had to hide from one guy (I ducked in behind a group of tourists then ran to a friend's house - and he wasn't actually Italian!).

10 yrs ago I was a visitor in Paris for 3 months..and in that very brief period of my stay there were a few things that put me off Paris for life..
Life in Paris was not at all I had imagined! It was not romantic at all ..maybe 50 yrs ago it might have been. Ok Things that put me off Paris for good are
1.Many parts of Paris are actually quite dirty, period!
2.Pickpockets and thieving were a common occurences..I ca boldly say this because I witnessed it right in front of my eyes..it was done by a group of youths, in a fastfood restaurant of all places!
I was constantly being extra vigilant . I had my handbag close to me at all times. A chain was attached to my wallet whic was then attached to my handbag! Double security I guess.
    3. I was in a public toilet in a shopping center and guess what I encountered? A couple was making out //yep disgusting on a dirty floor! half naked..it was not the least sexy or sensual ..it was quite dirty ..literally and figuratively.
    4. I saw beggars all over the metro area and various street corners..a lot of them seemed to be from foreign countries.
    5. I was approached by foreign men ..Spanish, Arabs, Morrocan, algerian and other North African men!! My french was bad but I do understand what they want me to do to them!!
It was scary. I was addressed as "chinoise thisand chinoise that" actually I originally from Singapore of Malay ethnicity not a chinoise, lol!
6, Drug addicts all over the city..how do I know they were addicts. It was obvious from the way they moved and behaved. and the worst thing was they were laying by the side walk literally on nthe side walk!!! It was such a pathetic sight I felt sorry but also fearful and couldnt help wondering how these people got to such a state ....All that commercial about Paris only 20 percent were accurate..the rest were created by the genius of the tourist industry. .On the whole the French people treated me decent despite of my ina bility to converse fluently..I think its because I was friendly when I approach for help..I would go up to them boldly so 70 percent of the time I was getting the help I sought after. Young people were the best coz they were eager to practice their english.. I was at the low point of my life when I visited Paris, but in the end I became very strong having to survive the atmosphere..I had to be strong ..there were no choice. Paris is wonderful if you're some celebrity with tons of money staying in a 5 star hotel. Not me ..I stayed at the cheapest dorm but in that 3 months I have learned so much about life. No I wont be in any hurry to visit that iconic city ever again but I have to say thanks for the valuable experiences..yeah Paris Made Me Strong😀😀 But Im so glad I am now living in Christchurch, NZ! Thank you for your wonderful channel and your shared stories about your stay in Paris!!

La Poste: old public service that got privatized. Previous employees, the happy few, got a tremendously good working condition status, while new employees and subcontractors have to endure twice as much instability and pressure as in other sectors to compensate.
It results in a rapidly degrading quality of service, with package taking forever to be delivered or often getting lost - while subcontractors will "se payer sur la bête" (pay themselves on the beast, take some of the spoils) by simply stealing packages.
It happens often during busy holiday seasons: since La Poste can not hire more employees (because they would have to keep them the whole year 'round due to the special status), they simply get thousands of random subcontractors, without checking their actual record because of the urgency, so repeat offenders will simply hop from one subcontractor to another (or create another bogus delivery small company) and start stealing again. There is footages of these subcontractors opening countless packages in the back of their van and taunting the camera with all the iPhones and other luxury items they got, nothing was ever done to fight that.
By the time these waves of theft are reported to La Poste, the rush of the holiday season is over and the subcontractors are gone, so La Poste simply doesn't do anything and simply tell people to contact the stores they purchased the goods from to get reimbursed, or if it's private parcels they simply direct them to their customer service, where people are driven in circles until they give up or agree for a limited payment that doesn't cover the actual losses. The insurance rate for e-shops delivery in France are mostly confidential but it's certain to be higher than in other western countries due to that systematic theft. It's been happening for decades, I personally know several people who actually did that as early as in the 80s, stealing package as temp delivery employees, and it's still ongoing 4 decades later.
For these reasons the french online economy isn't growing as fast as it could, as people are afraid to order anything too expensive (and easily resellable like electronics) in the mail. Large chains have developed retail-shop delivery a lot to counter that, so people order their goods online to be delivered there, allowing the e-shops to rely on their own delivery contract, insurance and contractors.
The biggest problem with the delivery sector is that La Poste still holds a _de facto_ monopoly over it, and the other options available, possible competitors, love to maintain the situation (as a cartel) to keep the prices high and the quality of service super low.
I've had countless horrors stories with La Poste and its subcontractors it's just crazy to realize it's happening in a developed country.
Funniest was the most expensive delivery option, a 24-hours delivery service, the fastest of La Poste, taking several MONTHS to arrive - because the logistic hub where it needed to be sorted was basically put on hold the whole time, due to local undisclosed shenanigans between the higher ups, subcontractors and unions. The whole time my package was there but I was not allowed to go pick it up, when I went there the facility (in an industrial area) had a waiting line outside that rivaled with Apple's launch days, with dozens of people waiting under the sun, trying to finally get their packages.
The kicker? When nearly 3 months later they finally agreed to go through the gigantic pile of backlog waiting there, they did not actually delivered them. They logged into the system (that I was checking every single day) that the delivery address was not available, as if there was no one there, then dropped the packages in an adjacent storage depot they had registered as an "alternative drop off site" (to still get paid for the delivery - nb: normally they would have to drop it off at the site nearest to the delivery address, not the nearest to _their_ depot), *literally* next to the sorting hub, over the fence.
When I went there to finally get my package, several kilometers away from the initial delivery address, there were thousands and thousands of packages sitting there, showing how incredibly dysfunctional the system was. The sender had paid a high price for a rapid delivery, and the package wasn't just delayed and held hostage for months, it wasn't actually delivered to the address or even a nearby sites, it was simply thrown over the fence to a 3rd party depot, while falsifying the package tracker app to still get paid the full amount by the company. That's how corrupt La Poste and its subcontrators are, it's an absolute disaster.
At this point we're all waiting for La Poste to crash and burn, hoping that whatever comes next might be better.

At the hospital, you definitely had a bad experience. It's not really the norm but unfortunately it happens. One of the luxuries we have is that if we don't like a healthcare professional we can go to another one without any consequences.
The postal services are indeed getting worse and worse. It's even worse since some of the branches have been semi privatised.
Sleezy men behaving gross is not proper to Paris, I've experienced it in many big cities. Back when i was wearing high heels, i literally crushed a guy's foot in the metro because he started rubbing against me at peak hour. I hope that will have taught him a lesson.
Terrorist attacks shocked us all but unfortunately, we got used to living with the permanent threat. I was 14 when I experienced my first one (the rer b explosion). I was actually supposed to be in that train. I guess it's the price to pay for living in a country with a strong diplomatic presence and sometimes controversial positions making narrow minded people angry.

I saw a man have an apparent heart attack in the hallway on the floor since he had no bed. I had a bed and I was paying cash. I wasn't given a call bell, no check in with a nurse. I've had an accident and after seeing how i've been treated (not healed corectly, i'll keep sequel for my entire life) i definitely wanna say : don't feel safe if you have to be treated in france. Same for the urgency : if you call theml there's a chance that they tell you to come by yourself which hapenned to a neigbhour of mine who was literally dying and had to drive his car to hospital. Fortunately he survived...

The sexual harassment incidents you experienced sounds horrendous and traumatic. It's crazy to me that this kind of assault is going on in Paris so freely. I can easily see that if this were happening in NZ, it would probably be normal for men to get tased by women and it would probably be encouraged by police. I hope this changes in France. For another video, it would be interesting to hear about moments in NZ that you have had (since being back here) in which you thought to yourself "whaaat thhhe f.....ck?" lolol. It could be things that would have been normal to you before you lived in Paris and now since you're back, it seems weird. Lol. Take care Rosie!

I was not young and gorgeous at all. Around 45 to 50. I am American from the South. Friendly by nature. A man turned around and looked at me. I looked at him because it was normal to make eye contact. He did not speak nor did I. I just kept walking and did not see him anymore. He followed me suddenly cornering me in a shop
and grabbed out his condoms to show me. I was shocked. I screamed in French and English go away. He did but I looked over my shoulder the entire trip. No eye contact was weird to me but I learned the hard way.

French emergency system is like a joke, but not very funny. In fact, if you have a pain inside, or you have a invisible disease, (not all) nurses won't take it seriously at the point that you can literally be called a “psychopath”. It happened to my mom several times since 2 or 3 years, she has endometriosis, a very painful disease no signs of it are visible, many times she got mocked, we haven't took her seriously, once at a meeting with a nurse, she expressed her pain and cried because of it while the nurse couldn't stop laughing (of course, not every nurse act like that but a lot are). Also, It has nothing to do with unprofessional nurses but she also did a miscarriage (not recognize by French government) and France is one of the only country in Central/Westert Europe to not allow refunds when an ivf fails, that's quite sad when you see that and the the percentage of success is average, for cheaper, you must go to Spain.

I think creepy guys happen in all big cities, I grew up in NY and I had countless encounters with flashers, being followed, creepy cab drivers. That worst incident was when I was on a empty subway & I saw this man approach me and sit directly across from me. I was reading a book at the time but my gut kicked in, but I thought it was because the man was black and I had to tell myself that I'm not that type of person. Turns out that my gut was just trying to tell me that this man was bad and I am not racist.
