I am a hardcore Calcuttan. The whole of my 28 years of live I've lived is in Kolkata, except for last 5 months I am living in Andhra Pradesh due to job.. Watching this video, relieving the walks on college street, relishing Balaram Mullick's Baked Rosogolla, cycling around Victoria Memorial etc made my eyes pretty moist.... Great job documenting my favourite places.. Thank you!
Thank you for the positive views about my city. I have been to many cities in India but my city Calcutta is the best. Best Chinese food in India. Most of all people leave in total harmony . This city welcomes everyone . Come back again - you will love it even better during the festivals
It's a city of contrasts. On the one hand, visitors and travelers love the city because of its old-world charm and the nostalgia it evokes. On the other hand, many residents have to leave for greener pastures because a metropolis cannot thrive just by looking to the past. Whenever I see videos like these, it also evokes a sense of melancholia in me. Great presentation nevertheless.
Went to Calcutta in 1954; from Singapore by ship P &O. Remember banana sold on cart by hawker, two small boys with two stones making music and singing for a living.Resturant with fans was called aircon eat dhall and roti.Took train to Delhi on my way to my maternal village in Punjab.
Loved the video. The puri that you had for breakfast is called Luchi. Kolkatans will be scandalized if you call it Puri 😊. Also the name of city is pronounced as Kolkata (coal-kata) and not cawl-kata.
Really liked your vlog and remembering my golden Child and Youth days in Kolkata. Presently residing in Gurgaon and rarely go to Kolkata, I can see the present day Kolkata through your eyes.
If you are still in Kolkata, do visit Tangra in the evening today..... today, they are celebrating the Chinese New Year, and today Tangra looks extra special.... you can see the processions and the very special dragon dance.....
This is a very well made video. It’s great to see such a beautiful narrative of life & food in Kolkata through the lens of a someone who is visiting the city as a traveller. Kudos to Abhishek 👍👍👍
Kolkata is basically a mixture of old and new thing.. like in south u can find colonial era building yeah skyscrapers r also there .. bt in the north part like newtown, saltlake.. this area is like modern architecture like smart street , high rise skyscrapers , big companies headquarters etc .. .. yeah i love my Kolkata ❤️
Brother Salt Lake and Newton come in the North-East part of the overall estimating city of Kolkata...The north part(Shova Bajar, Central etc) is still the most old heritage vibes giving part in Kolkata...
Excellent plus job !! I was there early February 2024 for the Lunar Chinese New Year celebration in Tangra Chinatown Kolkata. You missed that because nobody told you about the events on the 8th 9th February and the 12th 13th Fete at the Chinese school there in Tangra. Thanks for the video professionally done 👍👍👍🧡🤍💚🙏🙏
00:05 Exploring the silence and charming corners of Kolkata. 02:57 Exploring local Kolkata breakfast delicacies. 05:25 Exploring famous breakfast spots and local trivia in Kolkata. 07:51 Exploring Kolkata's local cuisine and transportation. 10:13 China Town, Indo Chinese fusion of food in Kolkata. 13:07 Kolkata's unique blend of Indo-Chinese cuisine. 15:45 Variety of traditional Bengali sweets and iconic book market in Kolkata. 18:32 Kolkata's old world charm with rich history, culture, and emotional appeal. Thank me later..
Next time perhaps try the Koraishutir Kochuri, perhaps a lunch buffet at 6 Ballygunj Place, Fish Fry at Koshe Kosha, some of the Hindusthan Park Cafes located in heritage buildings. The Botanical Garden is nice too in the winters..
Club kachori is just a version of Khasta Kachori that you will get anywhere in UP. In N India, its served with chole or a different type of dam alu (not the Bengali version). In Bengal we generally eat khasta kachori without any sabji.
South Calcutta is a place which has its own old charm and beauty ✨. Mostly vloggers focus on covering central kolkata like Park Street, Esplanade, Victoria and Zakaria Street. It's a special moment for me that someone has finally covered South Calcutta and North Calcutta❤ Your videos are really different and deserves to acknowledge :THE [UN]TRAVEL SHOW
You have missed so many places that truly portray the essence of kolkata. You should have taken assistance from a bong guy to get proper guidance. As a kolkata lover and being in the city for 40 years I feel the real " mithas" of kolkata is missing in your video.

The Maharaja Hotel where you had breakfast in the morning. I regularly visit there to have puri and samosa in the evening. You should try the samosa also of this place. You will love it❤️
Apne zyada se zyada non Bengali food try Kiya..... Bengali food is very tasty that you couldn't eat even after coming to Kolkata....Koi Bengali 😂 bande ke sath ghumna chaiye tha....yesab Kolkata ka authentic khana nahi hai ......
The video was made perfectly. Explanations were given in a way which cannot be found in most videos even those with million views. Really liked the way you have narrated the vlog. Good one. The food in Indian Coffee House has deteriorated. Only the mutton sandwiches taste really good. The rest taste average, the fish kobirji tasted horrible.
Hi. I am from Kolkata, once again I found your blog different from others. Please do come again to see other places like, National Library, Belur Math, new town area and other places. Thanks again
we (our family) like to watch your videos and hardly miss any.. so when you released this vlog we were eager to see how you portray our city. A city/town/place/locality builds its own identity over time and to showcase that, one definitely needs locals who can tell the stories the place has gathered over time. We absolutely understand that this is your vlog, so your thought process & decision on what to and what not to show. We respect that too. But we can't hide but tell that this vlog of yours hasn't captured the soul of our city.
I'm sorry you feel this way. But yeah like you said its just my representation and hopefully next time I'll try and spend more days and experience it more intimately. I hope you have watched the previous episode as well : ruclips.net/video/qEHVN9Jxa2o/видео.htmlsi=Afk3MIgHC0VYGj25
@@THEUNTRAVELSHOW sorry to respond late.. Yes, I had seen that episode and I liked it.. you tasted the best sondesh in the world and thanks for sharing your view on Kolkata biriyani compared to Hyd, Blr biriyani :) since it is Kolkata biriyani I want to share a view, again :) (blame it on my love for the city & biriyani). Regarding aloo in Kolkata biriyani what you mentioned is indeed a popular belief - "Wajid Ali Shah didn't have enough money and had to add aloo to meet ends." It seems that most say this without trying to dig deep into the facts. Here is my alternate theory backed by two well known facts about Wajid Ali Shah. First Wajid Ali Shah used to get a monthly grant of 100,000 rupees, so his financial status (though not like the nawab of Lucknow) was good enough to provide more than one piece of meat in every serving of biriyani. If there is a counter argument that 100,000 was still very less, then I will point out that the nawab who was not so well financially, moved from Lucknow to Calcutta, Metiaburz with 1000 or more khansamas (apart from other group of people in different professions). If he can afford to employ so many workers, khansama, officals, guards etc. We can assume that he was also capable to afford a piece of meat in every serving for his team. My next point, Wajid Ali shah was known to have a liking for aloo. Some even say that due to some dental issue he had asked his khansamas to prepare a meat dish that shouldn't require much chewing. Thus galawati kabab or more popularly known as galauti kabab came into existence. So, if we add-up the no financial problem + liking for aloo and tender pieces, you will find an alternate theory of introduction of aloo by Wajid Ali shah in Kolkata biriyani.

Needs a major infrastructure upgrade, it's left behind in the 80s and sanitation is poor as well. That Will make so much difference in the overall experience.
What is not expected to look like?
Even in current standard of world cities it is surprising that kolkata is lagging behind by 30 years in development.
