Same. Video is now on YT. Pretty cool to watch. Regan Upshaw wasn't even a key player, although he played decent. I wouldn't have known that if not for being able to rewatch it. Amani Toomer was a beast, but the QB had a hard time getting the ball to him.
De La Salle is a private catholic school, they practice all year even during the off season. So it’s not as surprising they had a run like this considering their year round program.
Lad retired just 1 win shy of 400 hands down he would have had the highest winning percentage of all coaches with 400 plus wins but that didnt matter in fact must have even said it was poetic he didnt get 400 because it wasnt about accomplishments.
They must be the greatest HS football program all-time for such a dominant run and longevity. However, it should be noted that they ran the "wishbone" (triple-option offense) with other offensive sets during those years. They ran that offensive set with machine-like precision and it likely provided them with a competitive advantage at the HS level because defensive players don't customarily have the speed nor the discipline to stop it in short-yard situations. It would be interesting to see other powerhouse programs (i.e. Mater Dei, St. John Bosco, IMG, Bishop Gorman, etc.) include it in their offensive sets..
i had coach lad as a teacher at de la salle years after the streak, he always seemed sad. kinda weird knowing he was a legend but he you would never know if you didnt know his last name. word around school was he had an affair with someone at the school. but those are simply rumors. he was a good man though.
de la salle dodged saint francis for years when sf was dominant...they're scheduling games now against SF but everyone in the know knows that those teams from saint francis could have given de la salle a run for the money...
I'm in the know... so you're saying DLS ducked SF but played LB Poly? Or Mater Dei? Or other top teams in the nation? Come on, man... I understand pride in your area and school, but that doesn't make sense. Not to say you guys didn't have great teams, y'all did fa sure. The argument is just flawed when you think about all the other completely awesome teams they played. Grant wanted a shot at them as well and never got it... I don't believe fear played a factor, though. No disrespect, just saying.
I was at the North Coast Championship 1991 when Pittsburg High School beat De La Salle. That was De La Salles' last loss before the streak started

Thers was a lot of talent on the field that day. The kicker for De La Salle also made the NFL Doug Brien

its possible to be this dominant when the other schools theyre competing with cannot recruit the best players around. a total unfair advantage.
You did a great job on this video enjoyed watching it
It was a while back but I am glad you liked it! Welcome to the Fam!
I was at the Serra vs De La Salle game! Serra won!
The Game stands tall white washed De La Salle LMAO

are you telling me they sidelined the spanish and black kids for the Hollywood version 🤔
I thought they where DEI friendly lmao 😅
Matt G to this day is still De La Salle's best QB ever.
I'll take Mike Bastianelli.
Bastianelli best pure veer QB, but you would need Matt G throwing ability to heat today's teams
@@ross1880 Pony the best running QB DLS has ever had. Matt G the best complete QB. I like Michael Mac and then Bart after.
No credit ever given to the O-Line… that’s what makes DLS football sustainable
Yea and they got to recruit and play public schools
1:58 dudes name tabacco?? lol
If you haven’t heard of MJD…you are a half hearted football fan.
My HIghschool, Bellevue in the State of Washington ended this streak.

Ronald Nunn was a beast! They weren't beating DLS during the streak, however. If Mater Dei with Grooetegood couldn't do it no way SF could, sorry.

No one in California respects them a bunch of cheaters. 😂
I don't think that there's any team in California that could replicate or break such a record, not even the likes of St. John Bosco or Mater Dei.
He got beat by Bellevue in Washington state in 2004
They got destroyed when they came up to seattle
And lol?
@@andyodvor2927y'all get destroyed Everytime your college teams have to play in the south y'all don't know shit about football
