Codemasters logic "Hey Ben, Charles is beating you in the rivalry" "What? How? I'm finishing ahead of him most of the time" "Yeah, but his fastest lap was one thousandth faster than yours, so he's winning"
Ben, if you need to go out to set a lap as quickly in the session as you can, you have to drive out manually, you can be at the start/finish line way quicker that way
Ben as long as you're in the garage qualifying will be scripted, and since it was meant to be dry at that point the AI lapped as thought it was dry. Vettel couldn't do likewise because he set his lap when the track was meant to be wet with you in the garage, so he lapped on dries and lost time. EDIT: You can see this well if you use an extra grip mod. You can do a lap of a certain time, then go straight to the garage and the AI will never get close.
@@buhbih4218 No, it also applies if you sit in the garage and the AI set a time. So if you sit and wait at 1x speed it'll be the same as if you sat and waited at 30x speed.
Not sure about the games physics but in real life when it's slightly damp on dry tyres you want the softest compound possible. This is because the track temp will be low due to the water. Softer compounds flex more meaning it's easier to keep temperature in them. When you were saying you had no traction your tyre temps were about 15 degrees below optimal. A softer compound may have helped here. Again you are by far the expert on the game so if you say the game works better with harder compound I will believe you. But if that's the way it goes then it's definitely not an accurate representation of real life.
not rly, softer compound need more grip to take temperature, wich lacks in wet condition, also softer compound are made to dissipate more heat then harder, again, for more grip more heat in dry situation, that's why hader is better
@@Frizke97 I'm afraid you are misinformed. The heat comes from the compound of the tyre flexing. This is true whether there is grip or not. And its also why wet tyres overheat when it dries out (The tread allows for a lot of movement). The softer the compound, the more flexing is possible. In engineering terms there is more strain in the rubber. Strain causes a shear condition which causes friction within the compound and therefore heat. When they talk about the tyres "falling off the cliff" what is meant is that there is not enough rubber left to creat this shear condition and the tyre temperature plummets rapidly meaning no grip. In wet conditions it becomes harder and harder to generate heat in the tyres so the softer compounds are better as they will stay warmer for longer. The other bonus is that due to the lack of grip the softer compounds will last longer than normal. Best of both worlds....
It’s also worth noting that the softer tires have a lower optimal temperature range, so it’s easier to keep them warm enough to be somewhat fast in damp conditions. This is exasperated by the fact that the Pirelli tires just don’t work when they’re too cold or hot.
Look at Hamilton in Hockenhien, when it started raining he had the softest compound on whereas Vettel, Raikonnen and Bottas had harder compounds and Hamilton was on some laps 3 seconds quicker
Ben, your logic is off. You always want the softer compound of tyres. The Ultras and Supers have a lower working range temperature than softs, which is BETTER in the wet.
Ye, thought so aswell when I heard hm say it. Then again, in real life I remember it's true that harder tires are faster in the rain? Maybe cm's logic is off, as always
The harder tires are generally preferred in changing conditions due to their working ranges. The softer compounds need to get hotter to work, and will degrade far more quickly if too cold. Seems like Codies actually got this one right.
@@theddrman Soft tires need lower temps to work and heat up much more quickly you have it the wrong way round. It's better to use softer tires because you can keep them in their optimal range more easily.

Yes! Thank you! I love your videos and you’re so good at this game even at 110 dif. Keep it up please because you’re in my state rn and it’s raining like crazy lmao so very realistic
In the wet if you can’t run wet tires run the softest compound, and if anything a higher PSI to help maintain tire pressure. You don’t get adhesion because your tires do not have enough internal strain to overcome the cooling of the water quick enough to get and keep the tires hot. The softer rubber has a lower effective range which means they operate better with the cooling effects of the water. F1 rain tires are actually a very soft compound to allow them to need less heat.
In real life this is correct but in the games for some reason the harder tires seem to work better. Also I'm not sure you can adjust tire pressure in F1. I thought it was regulated but I could be wrong
Don't speed up or sim anything when it's raining!!! I've noticed when you pick flying lap or accelerate time when it's raining the game gets confused or something and sets their times as if it was optimal conditions...also heard that it doesn't take upgrades into account but cannot confirm that one
