Captains dont decide who takes penalties or free kicks.Those are decided by the coach.If the players who are assigned to take them are missing then the coach will name a 2nd or 3rd player who will take them.

Ramos started his career in Real Madrid as a right back. It was Mourinho who made him a center back, an incredibly smart choice.

One thing non-football fans don't seem to understand is that being a Defender is as, if not more, important than being a forward and/or a center.
Every role has it's importance and reason for existing. No matter how many great forwards your opponent has, remember that it's not your team's forward who are facing them. It's your defenders.

heya, here is some other info about Sergio Ramos what people seem to forget. In his earlier years he has been a striker, he grow up playing the striker position all the time thats why his ball control and his headers are so good. When he joined sevilla they saw his potential as a strong defender and so they swiched his position but orginaly he started his carerr has a striker. But thats long before he joined real madrid of course
