This has been a favorite of mine as well. I like the way her more ethereal high-pitched voice shadows the deeper tone used to deliver the main lyric. You get the extreme variance of her voice within a single song. Combined with the alternating male/female lyrical perspectives, the haunting keyboard and bass treatment, it's like a mysterious blues ballad from another time. And that little inhaled breath at the end, just after 3:10 - turn it up to hear it.
I really hope Polly releases all her b sides (Not talking about the b sides we got in 2005 era) someday, this song is a absolute masterpiece 🖤. Truly a shame it never made her album, but I see it on TBYML. I feel now if any is the time she would, she’s suddenly reissuing all her vinyl including ITD demos & dance hall.
A very good song - very Nick Cave like indeed. My favorite PJ Harvey song though is "The Dancer", specifically the acoustic version. If you haven't heard that, look it up!
Thank you very much! I usually really dont take things from internet, but in just cases its just impossible to buy the records or even the mp3 files. But, considering that I´v paid 4 times for Let England Shake (once for download, twice for the cd´s when I was in England (record took more than one year to arrive in Brazil, so one for me, one for a gift), and once for the vinil, I am ok if I cannot pay for these songs... So I thank you in advance! :)
'the falling' comes to mind, as a possible best song. i saw her 5 times and i can't overly recommend that you do it as much as possible. so cool that we can watch all this here
One of my favorite PJ songs!
Mine too. Should be revered by all hardcore PJ fans, IMO. Sadly, it isn't.
ce morceau est une vraie pépite

Absolutely! 'The Dancer' is a beautiful song. You can feel the desperation in her dark and powerful voice. I adore Ms Polly Jean.
I saw ‘the dancer’ and ‘I think I’m a mother’ back in 2004 at her feet. I felt faint... it was a special moment.
absolutely love this!
Strašně se mi líbí, jak jsou její věci strašidelně krásné. Nádhera, ta husí kůže, to mrazení :o))
completely agree:-) one of her best songs ever
as unforgettable and haunting as one can bare
the best song of history in my opinion
this song is just brilliant! :) thanks ZZqezza because of you/thanks to you I'm listening to the b-sides more than the albums tracks nowadays. :D :)
I love The Bay, why does she not sing these live i wonder.
I loved

This is very Nick Cave like. You can feel here the influence he had on her while they were together.
Perfect remark. It really looks like a Nick Cave female version singing.

To jest kawał dobrej muzyki :-)
simplemente pj
Every time I hear this, I can't help but think of 16 Horsepower. The similarity to some of their work is uncanny, IMHO.
Me too!
She looks like vampira

Nick Cave wifed himself a woman that resembles PJ Harvey.
She´s so hot!
Hi! How can I find those albuns, ideas? Thank you!
can i ask where you found the lyrics?

this is from a period when she still did good music *sigh*
If this is all it takes to gain fans and sell albums, then I will be famous in no time....
+bazzellmike; Well are you famous yet? & pardon me for saying but I don't think you've got half the looks that PJH has.
He will be famous in no time = at no time will he be famous :D
