You all bring up really great points throughout this video. Really opened my eyes when you suggested that a "new pac man 3D game" doesn't have to be a platformer like the world games (which is what I'd prefer), but could simply be a new take on even a maze styled game so long as it the game is larger in scope and works around the character. Just watching the footage of maze madness made me realize as a kid that even something like adventures in time on the PC left me satisfied and not rly asking for anything more. But, there's profit in just keeping Pac-Man an icon with the classic sprites and playing it safe. It's clear these legacy characters (and the many namco arcade classics like Galaga or mappy) are really only there to make you say "I remember that" instead of "I wonder what's next." I think that's the huge disconnect here at bandai namco :/
That's very well put! Yeah there is definitely a disconnect at Bamco. There's so much they can do with all their classic and late 90s/early 2000s ips. So much potential, annnd.... nothing really being done... :/
Watching this gave me more comfort, honestly. I don't want Pac-Man to be one single thing, but the negligence on bigger titles has always turned me away from these longrunning franchises when they rely too much on nostalgia. The Wii U era nearly turned me off of Mario entirely, and Color Splash nearly made me abandon the series.
Too be honest I felt like at least namco was trying to bring back pac man But nothing felt too large for him It was the most blandest celebration for pac man But hey I can’t complain at least we go a minecraft world of him It wasn’t like how Ubisoft didn’t even know that ray man existed in his 25th anniversary But still it’s kinda sad how namco didn’t do something so big for him
I’ve been KILLING for an RPG for YEARS! I honestly could care less for a new maze game or platformer, I MISS PAC-MAN MONSTERS SO MUCH! It may have been simple and mobile limited, but DAMN WAS IT GREAT, beautiful art style and graphics, amazing presentation, solid gameplay, and a beautiful world and colorful cast of characters that kept me hooked, AND THEN THEY TOOK IT ALL AWAY AND I FUMED! I’ve been dying for another Pac-Man RPG that embraces Pac-Man’s cartoonyness and fantasy like magic and medieval times, but no, MORE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION! I’m so f***ing done with Bandai Namco’s sh*t
Everyone in this sounds so unenthusiastic, and it's not hard to see why. For arguably the most famous video game franchise in the world, I think it's okay to expect a little more. I think everything might feel like a side-project because the higher-ups probably assume Pac-Man games can be churned out with a pretty low budget. And they're probably right in that regard, but it would be nice to see a Pac-Man game with bigger production values. I'm not too caught-up with the franchise so forgive me if this already exists, but-- maybe we could get a huge big-budget "mix of the old and new" sort of game like Super Mario Odyssey and Sonic Generations? Both of those games emphasize the glory of both 2D and 3D games, maybe we could get a Pac-Man platformer that plays something like World but also lets you shift into maze Pac-Man, has the occasional maze segment, and is maybe more of a collectathon instead of a "get to the end of the level"? I know you could argue the collectathon genre is dead, but Pac-Man's very start was a game where you collected all the things.
I've had a similar idea to that actually, it'd be like in odyessy, how mario would go into those 2d sections that played like the original SMB. Only with pac-man the 2d sections would play like the original pac-man. Funny thing is, I actually had the idea before Mario odyessy did it, it was sorta more inspired by Link Between Worlds, and how that had sections were link would merge into the wall
Gonna be honest, I’ve had a very negative view on Pac-Man for a long time, which sucks because my favorite games in the series have just been kicked in the ass
I understand why you all feel the way you do, and I wanted to say my piece. I feel that after the og PAC-MAN's haday, the franchise was always a more niche one. For instance, was pmw widely talked about on fourms like spyro? I'd love a new story based game, or a remake of pmw, but I don't see it happening. It doesn't seem to have enough of a presence online like how bfbb had before the remake. I think with time pnw will get that treatment. About the franchise being handled, I feel as if the franchise has always been treared like this. The usage of pac as a mascot has never stopped. The only difference between today and the 2000's is the fact that pac was more prominent on consoles. Again, I understand why you guys are disapointed with the 40th, but it's not like they don't acknowledge the 2000's. I feel that PAC-MAN has followed the beat of it's own drum since the 2010's, and that makes the franchise sewm kind of humble to me. Again, I love the 2000's games (most of them) but I feel the cry isn't big enough for them to be given a shot again. When other channels aside from this small community start talking about pacman prominentally, then you will have a much bigger chance of a new adventure game. As for how I feel about the game output, like I said, the random output of games keeps me in suspense wondering what it could be, but at the same time, it's not on the forefront of my mind. tldr: I get why you guys are upset, but I feel the cry for a new adventure game is too small.
@@PACNATIC it’s very bad, this a franchise that’s constantly tied down to the fucking chain that is that stupid original that NO ONE CAN LET GO! I’m so sick of people kissing it’s ass, World deserved way better, and honestly it’s way better than Mario 64 and Sonic Adventure honestly, it held up very well despite its limitations, I can’t take IT ANYMORE! I never, EVER WANNA HEAR ABOUT THAT OVERRATED CRAP that is the original, I don’t care about it’s legacy, I don’t care about nostalgia, I could give less of a SHITE about its “revolution”, it’s about as fun as a dancing monkey, I want Pac-Man to finally break free and try something new and get rid of that stupid 8 bit style, it’s ugly and I’m so SICK of it! I’d rather take a platformer, a kart racer, an RPG, or a even another damn PINBALL JUST ANYTHING BUT THAT BORING TIRED FORMULA!
It's always good to see a different point of view. That said I do definitely disagree. I don't see how stuff like PMW would be exactly thaaaaat niche since I see enough people talk about it from time to time. After all, wasn't it on that charity stream that SomeCallMeJohnny did? I mean that stream had pac-man as the focus, but the fact of the matter that World is acknowledged should say something. There are probably many times world has been brought up in forums, but I'm not sure, I'd have to check. But regardless, I do feel there is a significant difference between the way he was utilized in the early 2000s and the way he's utilized now, mainly in the nature of the game themselves. But yeah that's just my 2 cents
Though I do get where you're coming from when you mention that feeling of suspense and wondering what maybe next with the series. That is something to think about
really wish the pacman fandom wasnt so 2 sided. either you are a maze fanboy or a pmw suck up which is super annoying. i just wish pacman could be fun and have charm again. good discussion aswell, you guys hit the nail on the head quite well
This was a fun discussion! I think we tackled the core issues very well

I get the point you trying to make, but even then
It was Rayman's 25th anniversary, and they got NOTHING at ALL. I feel bad for them.
Oh most definitely, I won't deny the fact that Rayman had it significantly worse
Oh shit, this is, uh, gonna be a long one....., OH BOY!!!!!
Be sure to stay till the very end ;)

I wanted to die honestly
I've been wanting a new game with a story for awhile, I thought about making an RPG maker game lol.
A pac-man rpg has a lot of potential

Jackie-XKH is a fake fan.

Forgot to mention this, I feel it's not at all a bad thing pac isn't talked about in a simmilar way as franchises such as mario.

Minecraft does not belong in Super Smash Bros.
