      This solution wont be for everyone, but if you're tight on budget and resources, this is perfect. Sometimes simple solutions have the best results!

      Mathis Arnell - This is probably the best example of this _working_ and not looking wrong, though the Flare (Fishing Line) could have been done better.
      For the ease and cost _this_ is the best result, but I can't help but think that the skill of the Videographer (and Post) had a lot to do with it.

      Tim Olsen This video is letterboxed. It's not native black bars. If I were you I would export the 4K/UHD in native without letterboxing.

    • @epicgamer1411
      @epicgamer1411 7 лет назад +1

      the letterboxing was just for the cinematic effect and simply a style choice as when using an anamorphic lens the image is letterboxed after it's desqueezed

    Last step, adapt the DSLR lens to a mirrorless camera, use a through adapter and remove the anti reflection material inside the adapter, then you will get the circular vignettish flare

    Anamorphic lenses collects more data horizontally. So you can achieve even wider results then a standard lens. You can't do this with just putting stuff in front or back of a standard lens. I tried your technic I know it works but i feel the biggest advantage of real anamorphic is that you can get super wide looks without the distortion like on standard wide lenses.

    • @edgelinestudios
      @edgelinestudios  7 лет назад +12

      MrBlacknroll You are 100% correct. Just as I mentioned, this only mimics some characteristics from anamorphic lenses. Nothing beats the effects of the real thing.

      Good point, here's another pro on the filter side is not only it's cheaper but A- you get a 16x9 image where you have more room to reframe B- you stabilize it more if needed ;)

      I've just tried using only fishing line and when you put it on the front and you close the aperture the light is cutted abruptly on the edges. When you use it on the back the light is on the entire frame on every aperture. At least is the behavior on my lenses.

    • @edgelinestudios
      @edgelinestudios  8 лет назад +1

      Thanks! For me, putting the filter behind the lens is just a preference. I works with different kinds of ND filters, so I don't want to be having to take off and rearranging filters in front of the lens. This allows me to simply make up a couple different filters for multiple lenses. Additionally, the camera's crop factor can play an role in what you see in front of your lens. Mostly, just a personal preference that fits into my workflow.

    • @VitoDesArts
      @VitoDesArts 7 лет назад +2

      I guess you've already figured it out but just in case... it doesn't squeeze the image. And it doesn't affect to the focal lenght in any way, but perhaps you'll notice strong vigneting in wide lenses like the 24mm on a full frame (or wider lenses), besides the loss of light in general (I would check the histogram instead of the light meter when using this)

    • @lddevo88
      @lddevo88 8 лет назад +4

      Not just that it's a zoom, those kit lenses have variable apatures that arent very fast. You'll get the best results on a prime lens with a wide apature so you get a shallower depth of feild. You should see more oval shaped bokeh then.

    • @TheGallagherExperience
      @TheGallagherExperience 8 лет назад

      lddevo88 thank you so much! I'll have to look into a prime lens with a bright aperture then!

      You can also get some really interesting features if you get and adapt vintage lenses. Not only do they give you manual control of the lens, but they have very good quality glass with unique looks and are generally a lot cheaper (undervalued) than modern electronic lenses
