    Red light has the longest wavelength of any colour, so can travel greater distances. When the aurora borealis is visible in lower latitudes (~50 degrees latitude), it often appears as red curtains, wafting in the breeze, due to red having the longest wavelength & thus being able to travel the farthest distances.

    It's so lovely to see that you're still continually amazed by the place you live. I've been to many very beautiful places and sometimes people who lived there had become a little numb to some of the incredible things that were around them and were surprised to see me being so amazed by things that for them had become commonplace. This also made me try to be more actively appreciative of the beauty that is in my own life, even if it seems like my urban European environment is dull in comparison to places like Svalbard. I mean Svalbard is obviously objectively stunning but there is beauty everywhere if you keep your eyes and heart open. :) Wonderful video as always!

    I'm a huge fan of watching movies and TV shows with such a solitary environment as the background for the story. Re: the battery question... Maybe people don't understand that while it's far north and cold on Svalbard, it might not be as cold as people are expecting. It gets far colder in Yakutsk for example. Even central Canada is colder.

    • @LeslieT
      @LeslieT Год назад +4

      Hi from central Canada! 👋🏼 Yes every Sunday I check the weather in Longyearbyen and I laugh when I see that we’re regularly 20 degrees colder or more in winter 😂. Except today... sunny, balmy and warm at -8 C and people walking around in just sweaters… saw a guy in shorts climbing over a snowbank! But back to car batteries, if anyone wants more information, we usually only plug in the block heater in the car if there will be a sustained weather event. Otherwise all is good as long as you maintain your car properly!

    I enjoy your videos because you go into depth about subjects and events where you live.
    Where I live (SW Texas, USA), we observe something more rare than the aura borealis. In fact it is so rare to see that most people in the USA have never heard of it. This natural occurring event is so bright in our very dark nighttime sky that it obscures the stars in its path. This natural astronomical phenomenon is called the Zodiacal Light, and at times, the accompanying gegenschein. Its natural occurrence is rare, not because of its frequency of occurrence (for we see it every night if the weather permits), but because of the location where I live, a Bortle #1 nighttime sky.

    It is so beautiful there, but I was born and raised in Miami, FL and simply cannot process the cold weather so I do not think I will ever be able to experience this. Thank you for sharing it with me so at least I can see it here.

    New viewer here, thanks to the shorts algorithm, and I've binged a lot. Two of my most common questions are 1) are there any plans to add some wind power generation? Wind+batteries could go a long way to improving reliability and total available power, not to mention reducing coal dependency and consequent carbon pollution. It's by no means a replacement for coal of course, but having more diversity in power supply can never be a bad thing, economically speaking (and of course "economy" = "livelihood"). 2) Any plans for a greenhouse or indoor agriculture? Modern tech can do some pretty crazy awesome things with either of those choices, and altho it would be a fair bit of a power hog, especially in winter, it still may well be competitive with importing fresh stuff from the mainland.

    Hi, welcome back. I have a couple of questions for you. First, what kind of computer do you use to do your film editing with (also how much system ram, how much storage, CPU and GPU requirements)? And did you start using a drone before you started filming videos, or is it something you learned to add to your videos? I hope this isn't too much. Love your videos, keep them coming....thanks.
