I thought I had followed his career closely, but never realized he recorded this. Even for H, the left hand octaves are incredible.

@xtfcr7 only during his late years, during which he practiced even less, but with a quite limited repertoire. As a youngster VH reported himself to have worked non-stop at the keyboard.

@xtfcr7 ''More than 3 hours of practice a day is useless, it just means you're 'playing' around'' - Evgeny Kissin (not an exact quote, but it's pretty much what he said haha)

where are the princesses today who orders a work like this? from Liszt and Chopin !!!! they all met her and did play for her. chopin dedicated works to liszt and liszt to chopin , what an exciting time where music was highly valued. See our princes today who govern us.... what are they doing, wasting money for stupid people and stupid music....

@Maroonmug59 I wish that was true. But I think you're wrong. Not because Hanna Montana is good, of course, but because the mass media allows people to choose what they want to see, and they want to see shit: it's easier for the brain to get lazy listening to cheap pop rather than to Messiaen's oiseaux exotiques.

@godelike The problem is telivision godelike, I know that sounds cliche by now, but really it is. Liszt, Horowitz ect. spent 10 hours aday practicing and writing, now adays we spend 10 hours a day watching tv. If there ever is talent now adays it is wasted on vices.

@Gargantupimp Actually, didn't Horowitz never practise more than 2 hours a day?

The central park mugging occurred many
    years before Lewenthal's death but
undoubtedly killed many of his pianistic
    abilities.

@Gargantupimp You should spend, at least some time, learning how to write, and communicate.
