I wish you luck and best of success in becoming a pilot! I had the same dream and still want to pursue it when I reach a position like you have. Thanks for the information cause you really cleared up the assumption of everything is and will be SUPER expensive and bad. face-red-heart-shape
Hey Ricky, firstly great first jet to own! yes an oldy but if you maintain it properly it should do great! I am a flight instructor and have been for the past few years, in order for you to fly this jet SAFELY and PROFICIENTLY, it will most likely take you more than a year, unless of course you'll go all in to your training but of course life still happens and most people still have to work. You can get to that level LEGALLY within a year, but I would still recommend bringing someone with experience for the first 100-200 hours on the jet to boost your proficiency and your knowledge so you can do all the things you want with your jet. Best of Luck!
Please don't think that you can get a pilot's licence in a year or so and fly your friends or business colleagues alone in the jet. This is the absolute best advice I can give you. It is solid gold plated and diamond encrusted and it is free, as it comes from the heart. Hire a pro.
My thoughts exactly. In a year you might be flying around VFR. I mean, you can fly a Citation VFR and that could have some utility, but to get full up IFR and trained in the Citation is probably 2-3 years at a minimum.
@@oisiaa But single pilot in that class of aircraft is a more substantial deal. It's doable and OK when all is normal. But hit exceptional issue, unexpected and that's when being two is a much better option. Single pilot in weather and then 'issues' happen..and Murphy always means that things happen when you really don't want, and task overload arrives real quick. Experienced professionals with regular recent flying in type (and I'm thinking 1000's hours on type) then single pilot is realistic...but 100 hrs type and 2-3 years total experience and below a 100o hrs total...it would be ill advised in my opinion except for the most banal flights...and even then.
@@NeilPatton1962 I agree. It's unrealistic to think you could fly this Citation safely single pilot in a year or two. I think it's possible on nice days, but try using those old avionics in IMC or under some other pressure and you're likely going to be a statistic.
@@oisiaa he owns the plane, and money isn’t an issue, he can fly more often than the average person. As long as weather allows he can get tons of hours in. Don’t say it isn’t doable those kids that go to ATP do it in 6 months from no time at all to airline pilot.
I am pilot, flying turbo props and now moving into the Falcon 900b and I can tell you from experience, start flying with someon who knows more about you, someone very experienced because aviation is a very delicate job or hobby or however you wanna call it, calling always safety first. I just hit 1000 hours and believe me, I am just getting started. It took me around 3 years to achieve 1000 hours and you just don't stop learning. My advise is, if you want it, hire captians for the jet, for each flight you'll do, learn from them, and whenever proficiency comes, then you could probably start flying solo, but from a safety point of view, even thou that citation is single pilot, trust me, even your insurance will go so much lower, knowing there are two pilots flying the bird, instead of one, and it all comes down always to safety. But there is no problem at all you flying it by yourself, you just have to get experienced enough for you to feel comfortable. Anyways, congratulations on your new purchase 🤙🏻✈
There are more expenses coming up. Hanger fees if you can get one, then annual inspection will be expensive. Overhauling motors will be expensive when that time comes. I think the fan blade for one of the jet engines is $100,000. An annual inspection on an older jet will most likely cost tens of thousands per year. Flying has low accident percentages because they replace the whole thing every few years 😅
Hi Ricky, congrats! I'm also an aircraft owner, single engine piston. Two pilots is definitely safer than one, especially if you are one of those pilots and particularly considering your avionics setup (higher workload vs. glass cockpit). Gas is pretty cheap right now but maintenance and fixed costs will be a doozy. Good luck!
Congratulations on your purchase. Please know you’ll be earning your certificates in this order: private, instrument, multi engine and commercial will require at least 250 hours; then you need a C501 type rating followed by a C501 SP (single pilot) rating to operate the aircraft solo. However, as a newly minted pilot, you probably won’t be able to get insurance at any price for at least a year and/or 200 hours flying the plane with an experienced captain. Best bet: hang out with your friends in the back and leave the flying to a professional to get you there safely.
@@Youngsta0 He didn't say he was not able. He's giving advice on how to reach the point where you fly this plane "solo", which requires dedication although it's completely achievable.
Congrats on your new purchase… and all the best on your training !!!! The most expensive part of owning a private jet will be your maintenance items that needs to be addressed… please do a follow up on your flight training !!!!
Great reg! Congrats on the jet, would definitely be interesting in knowing how much it costs to maintain as sometimes that is the part that adds up, replacement of parts etc
I'm in flight school right now at a University. I'm close to getting my private pilots license. I recently passed the FAA exam, It's been super challenging but very rewarding.
price per gallon i guess $12. register with the faa $2000 dollars. i will share a story with everyone, was doing some work for a business in vancouver b.c. the customer needed to get a oil tank underground on a business block inspected and maybe removed. for the inspection fee by the city $2000 dollars. to have the cement truck to come by to fill the tank with cement $1500. the contractor who done the work sent the customer a bill for $16, 000 dollars. the oil tank was not huge only about 6 feet by 6 feet. it was leaking oil and could not be removed that is why it was filled with cement.
My cousin has a pilots license and his friend has a small plane. In return for flying his friend around whenever he wants, my cousin is allowed to use the plane whenever he wants, just paying for fuel.
Citation 501 is a great jet. You can buy them cheap, but they can cost you big $$$ in maintenance, especially if the engines need overhauled. Nothing on a jet is cheap, especially the older ones. Make another video after one year of ownership on the cost for everything. Good luck.
now you should buy a hanger home in central Florida, in the spruce creek fly-in so you can park your jet at home with ur cars and fly anywhere from home. its the largest and nicest aviation community in the entire world. $1.2M gets you a fully remodeled home with huge hanger. im actually selling my old hanger house for that right now that would be perfect for you in all seriousness.
To bring you down to earth a little, you can get your private license of course, but insurance won't consider insuring you on any jet until you've got well over 1500 hours of flight time if you're looking to fly single pilot. There's way more to it than just getting your license.
Jets are awesome, but your video is a bit misleading. First, as a pilot and someone that has always dreamed of owning a jet one day, congrats on the jet purchase. As others have said, affording to buy an old jet VS affording to fly and maintain with the Avionics Upgrades, Updates or Failures, Hangars, FBO Services, Landing Fees, Fuel, Insurance, Overhauls, Annual Inspections, Pilot wages, Currency, Training and the extras, and so many more unknows that will pop up. Definitely get that Pilots License, Instrument rating, Multi rating, Type rating. Good luck! You are living a dream! P.S. Definitely give an update after 1 year on the cost of ownership.

That’s true , I’ve been getting assisted by a FA for almost a year now , I started out less than $200k and I’m just $19,000 short of half a million in profits.
I'm a flight instructor. It is quite a path ahead to get your licenses to be able to fly that jet. Depending on how much time you have it's probably about a 1 to 2 yrs process. You will need all of them, private thru commercial multi. I would buy or do the training at a flight school in like a Cessna 172..then transition to the jet later. For now, I'd definitely be hiring a pilot. Later you can ride with him as second in command. Many famous people who have jets (Travolta) etc always fly with a 2nd pilot with much more experience than they have.
Ricky, first of all, congrats on your acquisition. But to be brutally honest, suggesting that owning an airplane like a 501SP is more accessible or attainable than owning a $500K supercar is egregiously misleading. While the initial investment to get the asset on property is roughly similar, the costs associated with owning each are drastically different, and the financial exposure created by each are in two different universes. I've been in business aviation my entire life, managed countless aircraft acquisitions for clients, fly jets professionally, and also own an airplane myself. I'd be happy to give you some insight from an insider's perspective. Feel free to reach out!
Hey Ricky. Nice Jet. I have owned a Citation 501. Very safe Aircraft. However, it is a jet. Flying this 501 single pilot greatly degrades safety versus having an experienced Captain and a Co-Pilot. Please be careful! We did great in the air ambulance business with our first jet, the Citation 501. However we quickly upgraded to Lear 35A’s. Much more capable aircraft. The Lear 35 is 100 knots faster, can accommodate 7-8 passengers, and has much more range (4.5 hours of endurance). You could buy a nice Lear 35A for around 600K to 800K. Be advised to Learjets are rocket shops and require very experienced and highly competent pilots and Cool!-pilots.
Good luck with your flight ratings Ricky! It's going to cost you around $100k to get your private, instrument, commercial (if you want it), multi-engine and type rating.
5$ per gallon that is crazy cheap. Here in norway it cost 3$ per 0.264 Gallons of fuel for your car. So it's cheaper to fill your airplane with fuel than car.

Depending on your time constraints you could have your Private Pilot License (PPL) in less than 6-months! However, that's just the beginning of the fun! You will train in a much smaller/slower airplane like a Cessna 172. As you will learn quickly, especially working with ATC at busier airports, the workload in the cockpit is more than people would expect. This said, it only makes sense to train in slower aircraft that will buy you more time to set the aircraft up for the configuration of flight needed. Oh, once you get your PPL you'll need a few more things before you climb upfront in your Citation to take friends for the $500 hamburger. Regardless, you've got the time, you're 27 not 77, and clearly the money so enjoy the experience. There is no greater and rewarding experience like aviation and flying your own aircraft!! Once you're licensed and ready for the cross country stop in at KLOT in Romeoville, IL, burger is on me!
I couldn't have said it better! I got my PPL several years ago, I'm currently working towards my instrument ticket, then commercial. Ricky, my best advice to you is, don't rush the process, take your time, gain experience and stay safe, aviation is fun and unforgiving. I look forward to following your journey!

In aviation age doesn’t necessarily matter like it does cars every airplane has routine checks and maintenance such as an annual every year along with others in between based off of flight hours. I know it’s crazy to think about but they are a lot more regulated and maintained than cars! Remember in car you can pull over on the side of the road can’t say the same for an airplane so it only makes sense to have all those implications.
Unlike automobiles when parts are manufactured and maybe one part in 1,000 is actually inspected for size, demensions, weight, ect... Aviation parts are required to be individually inspected for exact specifications one piece at a time. By law only certified A & P mechanics can perform maintenace and repairs.
I have to ask why did you buy a jet without having your license yet? I got my commercial license back in 1999 and would love to own the cheapest jet I can which has enough range to fly from FL to the UK. I do love the Cirrus Vision jet but its range is just not there.
I've been flying since I was born....(Ok I probably didn get my hands on the controls till about 5... I remember having to sit on a huge cushion in our little 150), You are a LONG way off to be able to fly a Citation by yourself, would have been better off buyng a C182. Because If you are serious, you've going to spend the next 500hrs in a C172. and you better watch Blancolirio channel, Aviation Safety Channel, and the related channels that get recommended, so you don't get in over your head and end up like the examples they show.....and then theres Dan Gryders channel....... Oh boy: "Ricky looked Like a successful young man who got in over his head.....now here we are at the smoking hold in the ground he made a few days ago....just goes to show you......"

Unlike automobiles when parts are manufactured and maybe one part in 1,000 is actually inspected for size, demensions, weight, ect... Aviation parts are required to be individually inspected for exact specifications one piece at a time. By law only certified A & P mechanics can perform maintenace and repairs.
Thank you for sharing your Cessna Citation. Very nice.
Thank you for your time!
@@RickyGutierrezz You are welcome.
I have to ask why did you buy a jet without having your license yet? I got my commercial license back in 1999 and would love to own the cheapest jet I can which has enough range to fly from FL to the UK. I do love the Cirrus Vision jet but its range is just not there.
Bro congratulations this is so amazing to watch. It’s so awesome to see you grow into the person you are today. Excited to see your jet.
Nice jet. Flying has been one of the most satisfying accomplishments I have ever done. I love it.
What’s your biz?
Happy For ya Brother!!! Take care and a Happy New Year!! 🤙
love your plate mateeee!!!!!
One of my father's friend has one they both are in banking never flew in it but it looks amazing
Most of people watching these 3 tips, just in case in life we get to a point to buy a jet we never forget it.
Congrats Ricky G and way to kick off the New Year!! Proud of you! I'm looking at the VisionJet and getting my license too!
Sitting in a jet, I'd never say that one won't interact with the people of that calibre just because they have a larger jet.
Hey Ricky I been looking at your videos I’m sure I’m going to be on your discord I didn’t know you own a jet ✈️ and I’m so so happy 😀 for you bro it’s jus awesome 👏 keep doing your RUclips videos 💪 I’m looking forward for my future 🙏
The maintenance, operating costs, and insurance on that dinosaur will likely break you. Good luck
Only thing don’t like about small aircraft is they not efficient for the small amount of people.
That's a good price for fuel. Stopped in Colorado and it was 10$ a gallon.
Oh shoot
Congratulations Ricky, well deserved!
Thanks for the knowledge 🙏
$5-8 per gallon for Jet A. Jet A is mostly cheaper than 100LL
Awesome, straight to point, NICE.
Hopefully you understand the annual and monthly cost for maintenance plus pilot plus hanger cost. Also, with buy such an old jet you might not have a lot of parts available… hopefully you did a pre but inspection with a mechanic…best wishes
Thanks for watching Henry. I'm available for questions via my mail ABOVE.

Congrats Ricky. Praise God!
thats a dope license plate!
Good for you Ricky…Nice plane.
I am picking one soon
You are my inspiration Ricky, thank you. Happy New Years!
What’s the cost monthly or annually store or park your jet?
Capricorn ♑️ season salute Playa
Get lots of sim time and learn the total spectrum of emergencies.
Congratulations on this accomplishment 🎉
I'm really interested to see how this works out! Every C-suite exec in my career has advised me not to buy a jet and to start with a GA plane for work travel. You are a sharp guy, getting your Pilot's license will come easy to you. Cheers
From what I hate from my Lamborghini to Jets
thank you for sharing this info very generous of you
Inspiration af bro. Congrats 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you man!
I used to put Av gas in my Countach; about $4 a gallon.
My Guess’:
$40/gallon
$225 for registration
Thanks so much Ricky for sharing your experience....can't wait to see you fly your own plane:)
Wait until you have to replace an engine when its timed out.
Wait until you have maintenance at your specific times. Stupid expensive unless you can write it off = your making enough income to make it worth while FOR YOUR BUSINESS not fun flights.
Happy Birthday Ricky!
people who are worrying about jet fuel prices shouldnt own a jet
Lol 😂 it’s an interesting topic. Why make a bold statement when you can’t even buy one. You have no ground to even speak on a jet 😂
@@RickyGutierrezz perhaps, perhaps not. It varies on all aspects of life. If you cannot maintain something why should you own it in the first place.
Thank you for the information man. Please make more videos.
