I think this book offers a fitting conclusion to Leia’s story since they weren’t able to film any new scenes for Episode 9. She’s a major character in this and has some great scenes.
Just feom your synopsis, I'm feeling that the reason black squadron failed to reply to Leia's call is due to the squadrons failure to gain allies in the Unknown Regions, due to decisions made to blindly aiding a well equipped warlord to destroy potentially, more supportive allies. This put a air of suspicion that preceeded Black Squadron with other contacts.
Damn, you gave me lots of goose bumps here!! I totally agree with your assessment of the novel. It is an immensely satisfying read for someone who has read every novel and comic and game. Last year I started a crazy challenge to consume every bit of Star Wars canon including all novels, comics, TV, short stories, video games and movies, in chronological timeline order, from Phantom Menace to Last Jedi. I have now caught up to Resistance Reborn and reading it felt like a culmination of all the previous Star Wars canon in all media. It absolutely felt like a puzzle piece. All the character call backs were amazing. I literally screamed in excitement at some of the reveals. The inter-connectedness is so fun and brings so many story threads full circle. I hope this hints at Rise of Skywalker also wrapping up storylines that reach beyond the films. Great review!! Can't wait to watch your Easter Egg Video!!

What all stories go through with this. Should we read Spark of the Resistance? Star Wars Allegiance Battlefront 2 What else? Is this after Spark of Resistance? Or before?
This is right after the comic Poe Dameron Volume 5: The Spark and the Fire, and so it's also before Allegiance and Spark of the Resistance (in that order).

I don't like how this novel seems to be putting all the blame on Poe for what happened in his conflict with Vice-Admiral Holdo. Holdo should share at least part of the blame for keeping her plans to escape the First Order fleet to herself and not sharing them with Poe or the rest of the Resistance fleet. Had she been more open and honest about her plans, Poe and his friends probably wouldn't have staged that mutiny. The situation only got as bad as it did because Holdo kept everyone else out of the loop. I don't like how the Lucasfilm people are attempting to address criticisms of Holdo by trying make her look blameless and turning Poe into the bad guy by making him the only one at fault.
I don't get the shade Poe got and gets for his actions. Yes lots of people died, but if he didn't do it, everyone would have been as the dreadnaught would have just tracked them and blown them all up immediately.

And come up with a new plan of attack. It's just poor leadership for an officer to commit all under his command to a hail Mary, win or loose, everyone is going to die. It's better to retreat and live to fight another day. Because if you end up loosing, you're retreating with nobody to fight another day.
This isn't a military. And the entire point of star wars is that you don't follow orders blindly if you know they are bad orders. If you do, you're no different than the empire or first order. Again, if he didn't take his action, everyone would have been killed. The whole point of TLJ was to show they were running out of fuel and could not just outrun or out manuever the first order. If they fled to Crait and the dreadnaught still existed, the dreadnaught would have destroyed them entirely. You're points don't make sense.
