Reverse reverse psychology: There was a million dollars behind it
Jeremy finds a haunted piano that says death threats behind the door but later forgets about it and finds it in a store and after he remembers about it he descends into madness and pretends to be a cat and gets adopted and finds new "parents" or owners completing his life once more

If you pay lots of attention you notice the picture they uncovered was a picture of either people who looks lot like them or are a past life or them from the future but that is not all Jeremy says that the note at the end was in his handwriting moving more evidence for this theory
Fun fact: Aunt Grace sold what was behind the door to a furniture store...leaving Jeremy with yet another haunted door.
