Rewatching this Magic Door video again still makes me laugh.
As others have said, this is a great kind of prank. It's not based on humiliating anyone, but only on making them question their assumptions about reality.
The only suggestions I'd have might be moving the door closer to the hiding-place to give less apparent time for trickery, and perhaps using the old "mirrored" box trick to create a hiding place, perhaps under a folding table that anyone might put-up in a park. You could even have the table appear to be an item unrelated to the door, like maybe a kid's lemonade stand.

Still it's a magic trick, but until the magical moment is happening the spectator doesn't even know he's going to see a trick. So their guard is down and no one really pays attention to the fact that the door is opened for a long time

This trick was shown in the movie, The Prestige, including how it is done, so anyone who has seen that movie would know generally how this was done.
Does it really matter?
Actualy, knowing how the trick works makes it easier for me to laugh about the reactions he got, instead of just wondering how he did it
