Fantastic place to visit! All that history and the chapel was fascinating to see. Thanks for showing it to us. I enjoyed hearing about the skeleton down the stairs!
Amazing looking outside and lovely looking inside. I LOVE the little old, red book from ancient times..... Thank you for this gorgeous video with all the looks inside and outside and around and your tips at the end. 💟💟💟
Thank you for this lovely video. I feel as though I've been there now. The shot of the stained glass reflections; on the floor; just made me feel happy. I'm armchair traveling now, due to the lockdown. You have a very pleasant voice for making videos. The little red book is a treasure!
Great video :) And what a lovely weather you have! This is such a fantastic and interesting place. And you are showing it so well in this video. I was there with my sister in 2012 as a part of a week of guided hiking and bicycling in Cornwall. We took the boat out and walked back. My friend (whom you met) and I walked the cobbled path out there and back this year, but we did not have time to visit the castle because we were going to walk the St. Michael's Way back to St. Ives. But we will surely do it some time later. I didn't know about the skeleton. That will be something to look for next time :) Torunn :)
Never had the pleasure of visiting St Michael's mount. Looks a fantastic place!! The views from the roof towers looked awesome, and the chapel looked beautiful...despite the secret skeleton!! Andrew staring at ya is probably enough to put anyone off their stride!! 😂😂 Added to our to-do list. 👍😀
Some terrific history there; loads more to discover no doubt, and a very interesting mix of architecture. The stained glass is amazing, as were the views. Obviously, still a very popular attraction even in October. Another brilliant and interesting video, thank you Sarah and Andrew.
We deliberately didn't show it all - the blue drawing room is where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had tea! We were turned away in the summer - overflow car park was full! Sarah :)
I went there decades ago with my family, still remember how exciting it felt to run across the stone causeway, and climbing the steps up to the fort. I remember the giants heart and the story around it. Wish I could have gone back there and revisit it again, having more of an appreciation for this architecture and history.
Most people don't know this, but there's a tramline that runs under the ground from st michael's to the mainland, used for when the weather was to bad to get supplies over by boat.. The tram is small, around the size of a large wooden chest on wheels, if I remember correctly it was built in 1899 or 1900. But the tunnel itself is five or so feet wide and seven feet high and it comes out near the quayside on the mainland and on the Island it comes out near the kitchens. Another great video thanks for the upload!!
Just noticed your comment as I was scrolling down - that is a really interesting bit of information! In the future, I hope to return to have a look at the garden (which we didn't cover in this video) and maybe follow up one or two ghost and folklore stories and this would fit in perfectly with that! Thanks, Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails They don't allow people to see it lol.. or even mention it! In fact I was told by someone years ago who grew up on the mount that the trust instruct them NOT to mention it. :D If you google though I'm sure you'll find some info on it. All the best Linda. x
Excellent tour, full of information, well done! We visited last year and that path was really challenging. Fascinating place with incredible views. Thanks for taking us along.
I so enjoyed this film which brought back many happy memories. The views are to die for from the top and I have always loved the stain glass windows in the Chapel. I Have learnt about the skeleton down the steps today which I didn’t know about. A lovely film which I enjoyed so thank you. Well worth a visit.
Loved seeing this video. Brings back memories of when we went there... but I do remember it was a very, very hot day in June! That book was a good find. Thanks for sharing this visit. Warm greetings, Julie.
Thank you.I am doing virtual walks during lockdown and will be working my way through the various videos. Great length, good information both on the area and practical. A walk I’m doing on the World Walking app started from St Michael’s Mount. Your walk really brought it to life.
It's fantastic isn't it? The first time I visited the Mount was a school trip and I was not impressed by the climb! I think I learned more with our little red book though! Sarah :)
So great to get to see the castle again. Thank you very much! The last time I traveled in the area in 2013 and due to high winds there was no access to St. Michael's mount -:( It's one of the places for sure.
Loved watching this we visited mount last year but Unfortunately every thing was closed at the time so visited the shop cafe had lunch and sat listening to the band that was playing. Amazing day must do it again
A very good video. When I see the pictures, I'm sad that I did not visit St Michael´s Mount when I was in Cornwall a few weeks ago. Next time I will definitely visit St. Michael´s Mount.
Brillant! Never got the opportunity to visit during my stays in Cornwall. Mum is elderly and the uneven ground and vast steps would not suit. Really enjoyed watching your visit though. Always wondered how it would look up close. Thank you both for a fascinating insight into this magical place.
I went there only a week ago probably a week and a half, I miss Cornwall so much! I remember the path was under the water so we went on one of those boats, on the way back the whole place was literally flooded!! I was in Cornwall when that earthquake happened! Definitely subscribing brings back memories even though it happened last wek
yet another fantastic video , had to laugh out loud when Andrew got astride of the Lion . You two are the face of Cornwall keep up the fun filled videos xxxx
This looked like a real fun place to explore. It looked amazing, and you two did a real good job on the video. I wonder how many undiscovered secret doors there are.👍👍👍
I was wondering that when I was walking around! There are so many architectural additions and quirky windows and door, different levels that there has got to be other secret doors! Sarah :)
Great stuff. The tide was in when we were in Marazion and we didn't have much time. So I sat on the beach and talked to a gull about what asoectacular feature it is. Thanks for a wonderful view of St Michaels up close and of Cornwall from on too of the castle. very interesting. And now Andrew has resorted to making sheep jokes! I think he is Baaaaamy.
Did the gull tell you about the Mount? I'm sure he has had some soaring views across the bay! Think you are right, Andrew is definitely a bit baaaaamy! I have just told him your comment and he said that he has "herd it all baafore!" Sarah :)

Hi Sarah + Andrew How funny we were there two days before you were, we really enjoyed it to. Loved the walk there and back we had to queue up to wait for the tide on the way over as it was a bit later than the sign said it would be, lots of people with wet feet as well. Castle was great although the path up and back down is a bit of a challenge in places, shame as many elderly or people with mobility problems just can't make it up there. Great atmosphere in the castle, shame the gardens weren't open but lovely views from the roof. Didn't know about the skeleton, really spooky, but loved chapel very peaceful and pretty. Wish we had seen the guides you saw as would of found out a bit more, there was a lady guide in the room with the big table who just kept shouting at people not to take pictures or touch chairs so she wasn't very approachable, so thank you for giving us extra info. Have a great weekend. Bets
That's really strange to think you were there just a few days before! The gardens shut on 29th September, St Michael's day. But they still look fantastic from above, if you have a head for heights and can look don! Sarah :)
Yes the gardens do look nice from above so we will have to go back sometime when the gardens are open, any excuse to have another trip to Cornwall, ha ha!!! Bets

Beautiful video. St Michael's Mount is a very special place, the island is a beautiful and magical place, and the castle is amazing to look round. I read somewhere that Sir Humphrey Davy's widow, Jane, in a fit of patriotic anger, threw the gold medal that Napoleon had awarded Davy (the Prix du Galvinisme, which Davy went to France to collect in 1813 - we were at war with France at the time of course!), into the sea somewhere from the causeway between Marazion and St Michael's Mount. I can't remember where I read that, and it's probably invented, but I always keep a look out when I'm on that beach at low tide just in case I spot the medal poking out of the sand!
I actually have the same little red guide book as you, I just realised. Wouldn't it be amazing to go back in time and see Penzance and Penwith as it was in the 1920s?
