Roberto is basically the Osborne family to Dylan’s Peter Parker The Eobard Thawne to his Barry Allen The Metallo to his Superman The Sabertooth to his Wolverine
i honestly dream with a good reboot because i love mysteries with stalking, always gives me a thrill (and this reboot couldnt even give me that). too bad every time i have seen it the execution is lacking
"He doesn't have a creativity to pull off a good mystery. He doesn't have the intelligence to pull off the camp. He doesn't have the attitude to make a good story with a cohering characters and he doesn't have the balls to make his stories have stakes." 💀
It gives the same energy as "I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress I hate the way that you sneak diss, if I catch flight, it's gon' be direct"
about Noa, as a queer person i’m so tired of queer relationships, specially sapphic relationships, having one character cheating on their heteronormative partner as the setup. they did the same thing with atypical and it ruined the show for me as it had ruined my favorite characters it’s the worst kind of representation and it plays into so many harmful stereotypes. i’m sick of it
agreed I HATED when harley quinn did that because thry really didn't have too they could have gotten together like they did in the comic I LOVE harivy but the cheating put a shadow over the whole thing.
I'm not even queer and this trope has annoyed the fuck out of me since the 2000s when I saw it on Friends. Ranting on that very example: Carol being gay shouldn't have been the 'issue' with her being gay; her CHEATING on Ross should've been the issue, and that she and the person she CHEATED WITH - Susan - then act super entitled and frankly mean, taking no ownership of what they did... because they're gay? I'd understand if something happened and Carol was caught off guard, I can forgive that IF she had been even the teensiest bit remorseful or not let Susan get away with being mean and entitled towards Ross, who never did anything to either of them. (Though he did act like a dick at several points in the years after this, sometimes called for, often not) It pissed me off even though I don't like Ross, I think he's a prick, lmfao.
If they wanted people to root for Noa and Jen getting together, they maybe should've considered not portraying her boyfriend as generally a sweet and generous dude outside of one emotionally intense incident off-screen where he didn't even hurt anybody. Like, if it was clear that she wanted to break up with him but she was scared he might hurt her or something, then perhaps she'd come off as a little more sympathetic.
Yeah that storyline sucked. I don't know what they were thinking. The fact that Noa asked him for bail money, which he gives, then to have Jen go steal jewelry from his mother to pay him back it so messed up. That just made Noa and Jen two of the worst characters on the show. I was hoping they'll kill Jen off. Sadly that didn't happen.
Seconded, Shawn was so likable and understanding, that you can't blame him for flipping out on Jen, since his girlfriend repeatedly cheated on him with her. He simply hit a wall in frustration, without trying to hurt or threaten Jen in any way. That's probably why we didn't see the confrontation on screen, since the writers wanted us to side more with Noa and Jen.
@@fnh123 At the very least they could have stolen from literally anyone else and it would have been a shitty misguided attempt to fix what they did, but to rob the person who posted your bail, shows some next level maliciousness.
I would've respected it more if they had Noa struggle with breaking up with Shawn because she feels like there has to be something bad to break up, which I feel like a lot of people could've related to and sympathized with. And if they wanted to introduce Jen, it could've been a great buildup of friendship and a hint of something more leading into the next season, which viewers would want to root for if they got renewed.
as someone who never watched riverdale, i cannot explain the amount of whiplash i got at 'this show can't exist because the universe was destroyed by an angel'. like sure! okay!!
To make the explanation short, the season sucked majorly, but the only thing that Roberto is good at is writing cliffhangers and promising immense payoffs if you just hang on and watch a little longer. Doing this over and over each season until the story got so fucked they pulls some dramatic bullshit stunt as a last hurrah where everyone gets isekai'd to the past or something, then they just stay there. The End.
The shot of Bailey’s character covered in blood and dirt shaking and traumatised in a diner booth was way funnier than I think it was meant to be. Like girl! Take her to the bathroom! She needs to get cleaned up!
“Spooky Spaghetti” alone could serve as the season’s magnum opus, in being one of the most golden chef’s kiss concepts I’ve ever seen on television ✨ 👏 ✨
This season is the perfect example of how to NOT build tension. Characters are covered in blood & crying in public and no one reacts to it. The girls are almost killed like 5 times and don't want to go to the police. The girls go back to hanging out with their partners in happy bliss as if nothing bad is happening. They act as if their just blowing off a study group, not getting away from a masked killer. The writing doesn't believe what it's setting up.
I entirely agree that they fundamentally changed Noa’s character this season. Her #1 trait in s1 was that she was LOYAL (she literally went to juvie for her mom), so it literally made no sense that she would cheat on her bf (who literally up until late s2 was entirely chill and supportive of her, literally giving her $2000 to post Jens BAIL). I feel like they did an even bigger character assassination of the bf in order to make Noa and Jens relationship work. When we saw Jen crying cause he had punched a hole in the wall I thought that maybe Jen had done it and that she would’ve been revealed as the s2 villain but NOPE. Also the scene where Noa came out felt very “pick me”, and like she was trying too hard to act innocent while literally cheating on her bf, meanwhile all the other girls are just… fine with it? Crazy.
I totally thought Jen was lying about the wall too!!! It made sense since her character is a liar, and it made sense that Shawn wouldn't do that. Having it take place off screen so both Noa and the audience don't know what really happened sets it up. They really don't know how to write their own characters.
And when randomly suggesting that the new boyfriends could be suspects but somehow her new ass wasn’t made me think maybe she’s working with bloody rose
At least Bailee Madison realised how controversial having Ezra and Aria adopt Imogen's baby was, by having Imogen drop a line about getting creepy vibes from Ezra. That's ONE thing I can applaud them for, and Bailee is marvellous in the role.
funnily enough marlene king (the og creator of pll) actually talked it about it on the internet and she was PISSED lol like the woman just refuses to admit that the pairing was horrible and the relationship was wrong on multiple levels, she still maintains that aria and ezra are soulmates :/
i feel like noa and jen could’ve worked if they 1. didn’t lean into the bisexuals are cheaters stereotype 2. if they had better chemistry. imagine if they had a peter parker felicia hardy dynamic
@@b8376 Seconded, I hate that they stereotype bisexual characters as being cheaters, when just because an individual is attracted to more than one gender it doesn't automatically make them more likely to cheat.
Exactly, I mostly just hated that they made it so they cheated two different times. Plus Jen and Noa didn't give me any chemistry. They should have just had Noa break up with Shawn at the beginning of the season
@@turnipcrazy I highly agree with her breaking up with Shawn at the beginning of the season. It could've been a moment where she realizes Shawn is too good for her (lets be honest, he really is TOO good for her) and she decides that he deserves better and while in her sadness of the breakup, Jen comes back
Well also if it didn’t come out of fucking nowhere. Because of all the girls in season 1, Shawn was by far the best boyfriend. Loving and deeply supportive. Yeah he wasn’t perfect but he owned up to it and improved himself. And for the writers to say his steroid taking is on the same level as the shit Noa and Jen do insane to me. They’re not even in the same ballpark and you can’t blame homophobia on the fact that you made one of your main characters shamelessly cheat on and manipulate and rob her boyfriend. Like are you people stupid? I mean clearly they are given their response to the backlash.
I think it could have been interesting if it turned out that Mouse being written like she was a kid was because she was going through age regression. Like all the trauma of A’s killing spree brought back the fears from her attempted kidnapping and she regressed to a younger mindset. But nah Roberto’s just bad at his job
@@WaltDevil060 Age regression is when someone mentally retreats back to a younger age. It's usually due to high amounts of stress or anxiety so the idea of regressing (At least what i was told by a friend who has it) is regressing back to a point in your life where you had less responsibilities or less things to stress about. It's considered a coping mechanism
i gotta say, something that really bugs me about this show is that it’s called ‘Pretty Little Liars: Summer School’ but not only are they rarely IN school, but they are also not liars? everyone in town INCLUDING their parents AND the police are very well aware of what happened to these girls. Like you said, them not telling the cops literally just doesn’t make sense. The reason the girls in the original PLL never went to the cops is because they lied about so many things and kept SO MANY secrets it gave ‘A’ something over the them. THATS WHY the original show being called “Pretty Little Liars” actually made sense. Another MAJOR problem this show has is that there are not enough people in the town or even just around the girls to make the story interesting. Part of the reason the reveals were so obvious is because there’s is almost no one else that it even COULD be. They introduced the boyfriends/girlfriend this season but they lack too much in story and personality for us to even suspect that they could be the villain. Finally, these girls are supposed to be innocent and morally good, they haven’t done anything to anyone to even warrant them to be attacked by anybody as a group AT ALL. The moms have much more of a reason to be targeted as a group than their daughters do. Also, the lack of parents in the season is strange to me. Also also, how is it these villains literally unalive people yet ‘A’ from the original PLL is much scarier than bloody rose AND archie 😭😭
@@cutekittycat521 RIGHT????? i feel like he probably just enjoyed the concept of “A” from the original and wanted people to watch so he made it a “spin-off” but it just don’t make sense as a spin-off at all 😭😭
They had a chance with the Noa , Shawn, and Jen storyline to have a discussion about sexuality, the confusing feelings you have as a teenager, so on and so forth. But to make him the villain made me want to go crazy. Like how is Shawn the bad guy here. Noa had multiple opportunities to be up front and tell him but she didn’t. This guy basically told his family to go f themselves for you and you haven’t been upfront with him about anything.
Fr, they're not only destroying their relationship with absolutely no care, but also a long-term supportive friendship as well. Frankly I wonder if Roberto actually really hates gay people and himself.
Honestly this storyline is like a much worse version of Emily’s storyline from the OG show, because it ends up being similar (minus the criminal activity parts). Emily originally dating a guy, Ben, someone from the swim/football team and then ending up breaking up with him before eventually pursuing a relationship with Maya and coming to terms with being gay. Only here, Shawn’s much much nicer, Noas more self aware of her sexuality than Emily was at the start, she’s also much more manipulative since she already knows she likes girls and is knowingly leading her BF on, and unlike Maya, Jens an actual criminal.
friendly space ninja about roberto: “she doesn’t have the vernacular that she think she possesses. somebody lied to her and told her that she was fly, hot and sexy and beautiful and she’s nothing like that. shes nothing of the sort”
and, um the shows that he gave me were not something that I would particularly buy or watch for myself. They were old maiden type of shows and he said that those shoes were meant to be seen by people with common sense and an average level of morals.
Noa's storyline truly infuriated me. First of all, skipping out on work to go fool around at a mansion is completely unlike her character considering she literally scolded Jen for messing with her job. Second of all, she already did two favors for Jen within the small time of her being out, (fixing the stolen money situation and standing up to the boys in the diner) she didn't need to bail her out. The fact that she asked Shawn for that $2000 shows that she knows Shawn will do anything for her and that is manipulative in and of itself. Jen is by far a horrible love interest. No chemistry, all of her actions give Noa and the audience every reason to dislike her (like girl you just got out of juvie and you're already stealing from everyone and their mother). Shawn (as stupid as he was) didn't deserve any of that and Jen had the nerve to be nasty towards him even after he bailed her out. Noa destroying Shawn's car put the nail in the coffin for me. Was the only character I liked and now that's in the dirt. Also, for anyone supporting this relationship and saying the liars are supposed to be messy, even the original PLL characters had some fucking morals when it came to their relationships (excluding Aria)
And it would be OK (from a storytelling point of view) to have Norah cheat; characters don’t have to be good people to be good characters. However, the narrative has to acknowledge that she’s the bad guy in that scenario.
Sadly, that seems to be a pretty common theme with these teen murder mystery shows. If I remember correctly, the original, PLL was like that too. The writers try to outsmart the audience by just not having any plans so they can pick the exact opposite person of whoever everyone guesses.
my main 2 issues with the show are: 1) WHERE ARE THE PARENTS -- not even for realistic issues but because the moms add so much importance to the backstory of Angela Waters & why "A" wanted revenge. Kelly is more interesting than the main 5 girls to me because of her dynamic w/ her mother Mrs. Beasley 2) WHERE ARE THE SASSY "A" TEXTS??? WE NEED MORE "Call off your techno-boy-toy or I tell the cops what your mom keeps in the lasagna box" levels of threats
The answer to issue 1 is that none of the original actors wanted to come back and appear in this show. They set up this world as if all the originals were going to appear in cameos or as full characters, but it just never happened lol. As for point 2, I don't think threatening texts will work on these girls. Their willpower is incredible to almost be murdered then just go out for burgers and ignore everything they're meant to react to.
Also the girls have No Secrets. The whole thing is the Girls have nothing for A to theathen them with besides death. No set up to a crime they either did or didn't commit, nothing socially damaging or tarnishing, no situations where the girls have to commit actual crimes to protect their names, lies, families,or each other which at least in the first season the moms and some of the girls had secrets . A never used them, but at least they were there
💯 this, especially issue 2. I HATE that they made A much more like a generic serial killer type character rather than the overwhelming manipulative deceitful and merciless stalker that A was in the OG show and even perfectionists. Like, Bloody Rose was completely far and away from everything that makes A….actually A. No texts, no stalking, no indication that the girls every move and action are being watched. Archie Waters is just a discount Micheal Myers handed a smartphone. That’s it. Ironically, the Scream MTV series is a much better example of actually incorporating PLL as a horror type series and still keeping some of the shows formula of what made A a stalker and manipulator lol
I swear Shawn better report Noa to the cops for destroying his car. Also while he's at it report Jen too for breaking into his house! That way he won't be able to come 50 feet near them like she wanted.
in the original pll, i always had an issue with how they never closed their curtains, even though they knew they had an aggressive stalker. to learn that in this show, their nonchalance gets even worse? incredible.
@@hope-cat4894at least riverdale had the balls to murder her in season 3 & actually have Archie’s peers agree that the situation was gross. In pll the girls are wayyy to cool with one of their best friends dating a teacher almost a decade older than her
@sketchycat6223 Part of me feels like they only killed her off because of the reaction to her and Archie's relationship was so negative, and people were upset that it was a character assassination of the old Mrs. Grundy from the comics. It worked out because it gave them a good intro for the Black Hood.
How mainstream or known this show even is? Like outside the subreddit, I don't see anyone I follow on twitter talk about it. Then again, the same thing with Riverdale. More people talked about Sabrina.
the tone of voice FSN uses to say RAS's name never fails to give me chills, that's how i know i'm about to eat this UP also the biggest plot twist in this video is finding out RAS did the spiderman musical
A masked killer responding to someone guessing their identity with "Who else?" is objectively one of the funniest writing choices I've ever come across. Just trying to imagine that response for any other big reveals like at the end of Soylent Green, Thorn is yelling "Soylent Green is people" and we cut to some shadowy executive at the Soylent Corporation who breaks the fourth wall to say "what else?" before it cuts to the end screen. Or at the end of Last Night in Soho, Ellie realises Ms. Collins is Sandie and we get the "who else?" quip. It's so dumb, my god, Roberto.
Yeah that was a wild choice. The inherent nature of a reveal like that is it isn't supposed to feel obvious (satisfying, fitting, right, but not obvious) so to treat it like it is (when it was) is especially silly
I literally forgot this even existed and the fact that it was renewed for season 2 is more frightening. Roberto really has good connections to have his weird passion projects find such platform constantly
Idk if you can call it a passion project when it so deeply lacks passion... But fr though, what does this man have on the executives for them to let him kill off series after series like this? I can't believe they couldn't find even a mediocre writer to upgrade him with.
I suspect that Roberto, and other talentless hacks, are only able to find such a strong foothold in Hollywood because upcoming, true creatives are choosing to put their stuff online rather than go to Hollywood.
and yet somehow it's the only gay couple that gets demonized. Sometimes I wonder if Roberto is gay or if he just really hates women so he pivoted hard.
@@NikkiBuddersI wouldn’t even say it’s demonized, because that would mean the writers were competent enough to realize how toxic their relationship is. They could have chosen to give any of the other leads that aren’t already in a relationship a sapphic romance (bc you could honestly replace any of the blank slate love interests and it wouldn’t change much), but decided to go with the harmful “cheating bisexual” storyline and punished the only person who didn’t do anything wrong while treating their relationship like it’s the pinnacle of romance.
@@NikkiBuddersBut then why does he have so many “girl power” moments of them beating men, and only ever view something as bad when it happens to a woman?
@@phabiorules yet if they're consistently considered bad moments when critical thought is used by fans then it might as well be mockery. I think the guy just doesn't understand that feminism doesn't require men to be injured or mocked to be a strong empowering moment. Consider the great "girl power" moment in infinity war. It was just several women being badass kicking alien ass and generally being heroes. It was awesome and powerful to see all my favourite female heroes being awesome and interacting. It didn't require a breakup with an ex who had done nothing wrong. I think he just writes "girl power" moments as bait to the fans. Similar to queer-baiting or lamp-shading. It's a shallow and non-critical way to get people thinking you did a good thing when in reality you're slapping a coat of paint on rotting wood and expecting praise for it.
@@NikkiBudders huh that girl power moment in endgame was cringe and ass because it was so random how all the women just telepatically agreed to join out of nowhere when most of them dont even know each other, almost as cringe as this show.
Honestly, I thought you were about to reveal that Jen was the one how damaged the wall to frame Shawn as dangerous and unstable so Noa wouldn’t be tempted to go back to him. But they really expect us to see this all as okay. As a bisexual, this is not the representation Roberto thinks it is. As others have mentioned, this just plays into the stereotype of bisexuals being cheaters and having a higher disposition to being promiscuous.
I thought she's gonna be done with her and said you can't live in the past and I have someone, she just upset and left maybe dead too Disappointed, she's the bad seed not shaun
@@jackchop1576and? What's that have to do with anything? Or are you saying that you apparently meeting ppl like this means that every bisexual person is a cheater and liar? That's just unreal
I also think it's pretty stupid for Jen to suspect that Tabby and Imogen's boyfriends are Bloody Rose simply because they came out of nowhere. Like ma'am you ALSO came out of NOWHERE and not just nowhere, but FUCKING JUVIE LIKE WTF
Fr considering how much of a homewrecker Jen was I'm shocked they didn't just make HER the villain. At least then there would be clues to her shittiness leading up to her being exposed. The level of malicious intent required to cheat with someone's gf, take his money to get out of jail, then rob his home, is insanity.
@@NikkiBudders For a moment, I honestly believed that she would be the villian. She was in juvie, she instantly had Imogen and Tabby's boyfriends as suspects and she was desperately trying to get Noa to be hers. If the show wanted to, they could've made it so that she was Bloody Rose simply because she wanted Noa and with some scenes of the liars not being approving of Jen as a love interest for Noa, I think that would've been some good reasonings for her being Bloody Rose and coming after the rest of them with the mentioning that her mother had drug problems and that could've made Jen develop like a really bad mental break which would've probably landed her in juvie in the first place
Other than being unsettling and creepy and weird, Roberto watched TOO MANY movies in my opinion. He is trying to write fiction-like fiction. Not stories that connect to real life, but are fiction. Not sure if it makes sense, but it does feel like he doesn't have a relationship with hor real people and real life are.
I have only watched the first episode of this season, but I'm forever grateful to Dylan for sticking it out, just to make this video. We salute you, Friendly Space Ninja!
1. Is anyone else seeing how much Imogen looks like Sabrina? Roberto has a weird type 2. It's insane that RAS is incapable of writing healthy queer relationships. Jen is a thief and Noa a cheater in this show. Cheryl in Riverdale was a literal abuser but she was constantly painted as a victim and her relationship with her abuse victim was romanticized to hell and back
Here’s a tip for tv show writers: if the plot of your season can be wrapped up in the first six minutes in the next season? Just wrap it up in the first season. You don’t HAVE to have a cliffhanger. I especially don’t want one if it’s going to amount to nothing. And (for good tv shows at least) with the way tv shows are getting canceled, I’d rather each season have a coherent ending.
It actually reminded me of Jules' character assassination more. Like, Rue and Jules had such an interesting toxic relationship dynamic there was no need to add cheating as well. But hey, it's almost a requirement for sapphic couples in media to have a cheating plotline.
Roberto sincerely, desperately wants to make the next Scream. Unfortunately, he is so far from being capable of it, he'd probably have better luck trawling the bottom of the ocean for Atlantis.
If they had just spent even 15 minutes of an afternoon brainstorming names for their site, I'm almost certain 'Berto could've come up with something better than spooky spaghetti. This is so hilariously sad
Just off the top of my head-Cursr. In-universe they meant to play off of "cursor" and instead a bunch of teens decided it meant "curse" and turned it into the creepypasta site. Its not great but its quick to say and nowhere near as cringe as "spooky spaghetti"
or at the very least have come up with a shorthand name for it that doesn't sound so stupid. I've been on cheese stupid forum websites in my day and nobody ever actually calls them by their full formal name. Mostly out of appropriate levels of embarrassment, but still.
Remember when the PLL series started off with the girls realizing Alison and Spencer was gone then Spencer said Ali was missing? Remember when Hanna was hit by a car? Remember the black mailing and torment A put the girls through? Remember the anxiety we felt when the girls were in danger or being threatened? I do… I don’t even bother watching the remakes. PLL was flawed and it fell apart as Marleen tried to out smart everyone, including herself. The show also showed incredibly inappropriate relationships between the adults and children, but there (usually) risks and reasons as to why the girls made the decisions they did. They also feared their own secrets getting out, like blinding Jenna, Aria’s inappropriate relationship with Ezra, Emily being gay, also Maya disappearing. They couldn’t trust anyone, and they had no idea who A was. It could be Alison, the police, their family or partners, even one of them! There was never a feeling of safety with PLL. Don’t get me wrong the show was a mess, but compare this show to its predecessors.
Ppl seem to have this idea that good tv doesn't have to be quality to be good, but even non quality tv was good at entertaining. Now it's just bad all around
I still see the early seasons of PLL going down as classics in TV history decades from now when new generations discover it but the later seasons fell off heavily, it won't be as legendary as Buffy the Vampire Slayer per say.
Justice for my boy Sean. I truly thought Jen was gonna be a villain the whole time, I thought she was manipulating Noa and that there was gonna be a big reveal in the end where she was working with the bad guys...I was wrong. I keep forgetting that things like this are only plausible if the writers/creators/showrunners are actually good at their job.
A pretty girl (or pretty boy) being able to get away with murder without any form of consequence from the narrative is a trope thats as old as dirt. Roberto just makes it worse by dressing it up as a girl power.
They condescend to the teen and young adult demographics by assuming all feminism is the tumblr crazy lady's opinion of 'we hate men, all men are evil or need to be fixed, women need to rule the world because men are Neanderthals, women angerrrrr'. It shows a blatant lack of research or even care about the youths they're portraying in horrendous lights.
The point of the OG Liar’s to not go to the police whilst being harassed by “A”was because the audience could see the girls maybe had something to do with Allison’s death and they didn’t want to get caught up in the investigation. So they kept it to themselves to figure out. For these new girls to not have any reason to hide anything and are being stalked and NOT go to the police makes 0 sense. If they wanted that then WRITE A BETTER SHOW. Edit: what are these clothes? The OG show had the most character driven costumes and amazing designers. All the girls look like they shopped at SHEIN and have no individuality.
@@totallys8920 The fashion from the original series was still better than whatever these clothes were. I know the fashion from the original show wasn't always great, but I still consider it better than the fashion on this show.
its so easy to solve the "dont talk to the police" plot hole by adding a Single Implication that there's a mole or connection or dangerous person related to the mystery within the police. It's so simple. But if they have no plot reason to distrust everyone and keep quiet, then its just stupid.
I somewhat agree. The police couldn’t stop Archie or Bloody Rose. Plus crooked Sheriff Beasley was in the department for a long time. We don’t know if the department fired other corrupt people who cosigned his unethical behavior.
Not me completely jamming to Dylan’s music while he obliterates Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s entire existence and pen game! 🕺🏾💨 THANK GOD he did some self-promotion because I’m LIVING for these songs!
Hold up. Roberto was responsible for Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark?! That infamous play that resulted in actors being injured, the play being overbudget, and had an overall negative reception?
When Noa heard Jens story about shawn being aggressive towards her and punching the wall, I was convinced she was lying. Also the way Jen literally suggests that they form a throuple and Noa dismisses it without a second thought even thought it would solve her whole dilemma, and lead to interesting writing opportunities (which they would no doubt also fumble)
Honestly yeah to both. I thought for sure FSN was going to say "Shawn didn't even hit the wall" or something. Also as he was talking about Shawn moving in with them I kind of wondered if the writers would go the threesome route which could've been interesting but oh well.
roberto thinks equality is when women treat men as Badly as “”men treat women”” all of his shows feel like someone asking, what if the streets were made of pudding ?
I like how when they said they were gonna make a more horror centered version of pretty little liars they really just meant they're gonna steal the plots and famous parts of horror movies and hope it makes a good show
Exactly!! And yet, if they wanted to make a slasher version of PLL, the books were RIGHT there! 'A' kills so many characters and is a genuinely terrifying villain! All they had to do was make an actual reboot that follows the books!
The funny thing about this, there’s already a show that does exactly this and much better than this reboot. MTV Scream, which isn’t even the same as the OG Scream movies, is far closer to a more horror-focused PLL than anything this rebooted version does lol
@@theashwoodfaerie2 I don't even get what they're talking about. Mouse is literally bisexual and is dating a trans man. But instead of evolving that, we have to ruin Noa for absolutely no reason.
it's always fascinating to me to see all the creative ways media can be deeply homophobic while having a relatively diverse cast of queer characters. it reminds me of 90s era cartoons that'd have exactly 1 episode with someone in a wheelchair and they were so simplistic and wooden that the inclusion is insulting and potentially hurtful to that actual demographic they're trying to speak to. hell, i'd be all for a different show with good writers having two queer ladies be evil and build around their shittiness to have complex and flawed characters who may (or may not) grow, learn, and change for the better. that feels like a core appeal of Poison Ivy and Harley Quin to me tbh.
Bi people are either completely forgotten about or turned into cheaters, and almost always the person is in a hetero relationship and cheats with someone of their same gender. And yeah queer people can be portrayed to be just as awful as a hetero person, just not BECAUSE they're queer. It's like they'll say this person is going around kicking all the puppies in town and someone says "oh well they're gay" and then everyone acts like that suddenly makes sense. Like what? Queer people can be assholes, disabled people can be assholes, people of various ethnicities can be assholes. But the main thing the writers would need to do is sub out any of those things for a cis/het/white/able bodied man and see if the reasoning for their shittiness still makes sense. If it still works then cool, they've written a bad person instead of a bad stereotype.
Your personal vendetta against Roberto gives me so much life. Also for some reason the strongest feeling I got from watching this video (other than sheer delight at your evisceration of the show) was a desire to order pizza for dinner....maybe I shouldn't have watched this while hungry 😂
Honestly, I hope to see Bailee Madison in a GOOD movie or TV show where she can really shine. She’s so good! There’s also a scene in episode 2 where Imogen has a meltdow about how she wishes she was someone else and living a different life, that actually brought tears to my eyes. She ATE that scene and I think she did an amazing job in portraying all those emotions (even if Imogen was kind of annoying overall, but that’s on the writers, not on her)
Spooky spaghetti sounds less like an actual pun, and more like I tried to explain creepypastas to my 70 year old grandma and asked her what she remembered of it the next day tbh
hearing the true blood reboot was cancelled is the best news I've heard all year. Thanks for another great vid. I love seeing what shows I can avoid :D
Shawn, of all the girls' partners in season 1, was the best one of the bunch. Deeply loving, caring and supportive of his girlfriend. Yeah he was flawed but he owned up to it. And for the writers to say his steroid taking is on the same level as the shit Noa and Jen do insane to me. Like how insane do you have to be to think what Shawn does is worse than everything Noa and Jen do to him? They’re not even in the same ballpark and you can’t blame homophobia on the fact that you made one of your main characters shamelessly cheat on and manipulate and rob her boyfriend. You can't just make one of your main characters do horrific things like this and expect us to view her as the good guy here just because she's dating a woman. Like are you people stupid? I mean clearly they are given their response to the backlash of this storyline.
I just realized that and ugh, that’s annoying to see. I have Afro textured hair and I would NEVER think of going in a CHLORINATED BODY OF WATER without some kind of protection for my hair/putting it up.
@petloverspy Chlorine and salt water will dry out our hair, making it more suseptable to breakage and hair damage because it becomes so brittle from drying out
Sean is such an overall good guy and it was so awful to watch them try to make him into the bad guy this season while noah and jen are being absolute maniacs.
i never thought a character getting into a gay relationship would make me hate them but it was so insufferable. he's the one who was wronged so it made NO sense to attempt to villainize him when he risked so much for noa just for her to throw him away for such a horrible person
Did I watch the original PLL? Yes. Am I ahamed to admit it? No. Did I watch the PLL reboot? No. Do I plan to? No. Will I watch Friendly Space Ninja's breakdown of it? Absolutely yes.
I feel bad for the main actresses who are clearly fans of the original PLL show, have read the books and were probably excited to do something that keeps the spirit of the og show but allows them to add their own touch to the PLL universe and have fun playing morally gray, deeply flawed and complex characters who have to lie in order to avoid facing the consequences of their actions only to slowly realize that it's just... Not that 💀Because the people that are behind this show very clearly don't understand the source material and Roberto only wanted to have a playground to fulfill his little horror nerd dream and rip off his favorite horror movies. Also, I'm pretty sure that it was written by AI because you can't convince me that actual humans wrote about a skinny teenage girl having to hold a fricking STEEL BEAM onto her shoulders for 2 HOURS STRAIGHT and thought that it made perfect sense 😂 I laughed out loud during this and the moment where the real Rose Waters jumps off a bridge and instead of calling for help because someone tried to KILL herself in front of them, the girls decide that it's more important to... Check her stuff to make sure it was really Rose Waters 😂 Like, hello????? Someone just endangered herself in front of you?????
That and when people were saying how that moment with Faran where she has to hold the steel beam onto her shoulders for two hours straight was "epic" even though it literally didn't make any fricking sense 💀
@@leedongwok86 The fact that they made the characters use the words « ship » and « canon » to refer to two other characters that were dating 💀 Also, none of the pairings in the show were interesting. None of them. And yet there was potential to actually make them interesting. Like having Imogen be paired up with Greg, aka Karen’s boyfriend because he was cheating on Karen with Imogen, which would have lead to them having to deal with guilt after Karen’s death and struggling to become an actual couple. Or having Noa cheat on Shawn and at the very least acknowledge that it’s messed up but choosing Jen in the end because Jen brings more spice into her life. I really wish that the story had acknowledged that Jen was a really bad person while still keeping her as a love interest!
1:05:09 Honestly, if after all this Shawn was the killer and went after Noa and Jen, I honestly would be on his side. Also, how is taking steroids at all comparable to cheating on Sean with Jen not once but twice, taking $2,000 from him to bail said cheater out of jail. Then being fine with said girl she was cheating with stealing $2,000 worth of materials from his house, really cheating him out of $4,000 as FSN said, and destroying his car?!?! #shawndeservesbetter
I am so confused by the... everything, but especially the part where the movie guy thought that making a snuff film would be unique and high art when you can (unfortunately) find it anywhere for free, and also the part where creepypasta fans form a real cult around a real murderer. Just more proof that Roberto has never visted Earth or spoken to its people.
I forgot the villain was named Archie and wondered if I'd entered a parallel universe where Riverdale wasn't over for a second 😭 considering there are MULTIPLE books titled Final Girls or some variation I'm also shocked they weren't sued, but it's probably too generic and RAS can get away with anything
1:08:14 Someone on twitter said “they think we don't peep them trying to call a brown man a druggie and pretending the white girl isn't a whole ass thief” and I’m like ….wait?
Wow. # Justice For Shawn Also love how at the end the girls say they don't need therapy anymore, because apparently being chased by ANOTHER serial killer cancels out the trauma of the first time that happened? *Why* is this man like this?
He was going to be in charge of that adaptation?! What kind of connections does Roberto have to keep getting these properties? At least someone told him no this time. 🤦🏽♀️
I genuinely thought Jen was like just a liar who wanted to convince Noa to break up with her bf out of like jealousy or something, but then the show was like "no we are supposed believe what Jen says and root for Noa and Jen." When I watched it looked like Jen wad literally plotting for Noa's relationship downfall, and Noa was choosing to go with it. But the writers thought it looked like Noa's ex was bad and Jen was the healthy option 😭 ain't no way they thought that
You should do a video on Zack Snyder and Rebel Moon. Dude keeps making promises that his Netflix IP’s will become franchises but when they get bad reviews, he doesn’t talk about them at all and moves onto the next one.
Roberto is not good at making television shows. It would be very funny were it not so sad. Or that regardless of what kind of terrible shows he makes, he will still get hired no matter what. It genuinely breaks my heart for the countless of amazing writers out there yet to be discovered who will always be passed on for his never ending creative stupidity.
I hate to be that guy but I am starting to feel like Roberto is giving DEI hire vibe for being gay and it gives the conservatives ammos to portray DEI as a bad thing (speaking as a gay man)
thank god, ive been saying this for months. all i ever read on twitter is how awesome this show is and how this is real horror done right and how we need a 3rd season. no we do not need a 3rd season of this show. its not written very well
Noa and Jen relationship reminds me of Chloe Price from life is strange, where she is obviously an irresponsible selfish manipulative person but the story and the protagonist are on their side expecting me to go along with their bs and also wanting so hard for the audience to root for them and like them, no my dude if a person do shit stuff and u wanna justified that as good behavior just bcs is a protagonist doing it, then im gonna get mad cos then ur taking me for a god damn idiot
Fr and so many people actually love her and root for her and max lol. A lot of them are so young so i dont necessarily blame them for that because honestly it just feels like the script itself is manipulating the audience to feel that way. It's probably gonna influence those young fans into normalizing that kind of behavior in their personal relationships and friendships, which is very concerning
Beautiful connection honestly. I love all of the Life is Strange games but it was so painfully obvious that Chloe was beyond toxic. So many things were red flags in that game. Constantly making Max feel bad for leaving Arcadia Bay, getting mad at Max if she didn't take the fall for CHLOE'S weed in CHLOE'S room, getting mad at Max for taking Kate's call at the diner. Jen has the same vibes as Chloe. She throws these little disses at Shawn to Noa when Shawn isn't around and gets mad when Noa doesn't instantly chose her over Shawn when SHE KNEW they was together even when they hooked up in juvie. The resemblance is uncanny
I feel like Rachel Amber fits better since she cheats on Chloe with at least 2 guys and the story barely acknowledged it even by Chloe despite being the one getting cheated on.
I wish Roberto would invite younger writers to collaborate with him on the scripts. It would improve the dialogue, hopefully avoid the plot lines and tropes he overuses, and he would be helping someone new get their foot in the door

about Noa, as a queer person i’m so tired of queer relationships, specially sapphic relationships, having one character cheating on their heteronormative partner as the setup. they did the same thing with atypical and it ruined the show for me as it had ruined my favorite characters
it’s the worst kind of representation and it plays into so many harmful stereotypes. i’m sick of it
God please as a someone who’s an autistic sapphic, I dislike that and also with how they handle the characters later on with all the stereotypes
agreed I HATED when harley quinn did that because thry really didn't have too they could have gotten together like they did in the comic I LOVE harivy but the cheating put a shadow over the whole thing.
Yeah, a friend of mine rejected a girl once he found out she was bi because he was afraid she would eventually cheat.
I'm not even queer and this trope has annoyed the fuck out of me since the 2000s when I saw it on Friends.
Ranting on that very example:
Carol being gay shouldn't have been the 'issue' with her being gay; her CHEATING on Ross should've been the issue, and that she and the person she CHEATED WITH - Susan - then act super entitled and frankly mean, taking no ownership of what they did... because they're gay? I'd understand if something happened and Carol was caught off guard, I can forgive that IF she had been even the teensiest bit remorseful or not let Susan get away with being mean and entitled towards Ross, who never did anything to either of them. (Though he did act like a dick at several points in the years after this, sometimes called for, often not)
It pissed me off even though I don't like Ross, I think he's a prick, lmfao.
Seriously!!! Can we not have a cute wlw couple?? Why does it always have to be so bad
And if they wanted to introduce Jen, it could've been a great buildup of friendship and a hint of something more leading into the next season, which viewers would want to root for if they got renewed.
i’m betting jen is gonna be the villain in the next season and that’s why they did this

as someone who never watched riverdale, i cannot explain the amount of whiplash i got at 'this show can't exist because the universe was destroyed by an angel'. like sure!
The shot of Bailey’s character covered in blood and dirt shaking and traumatised in a diner booth was way funnier than I think it was meant to be. Like girl! Take her to the bathroom! She needs to get cleaned up!

I need to know who this man has blackmail on that he keeps getting work. WHO KEEPS GIVING THIS MAN MONEY TO MAKE TERRIBLE TV?
Crazy.
Ikr?!?!
I totally thought Jen was lying about the wall too!!! It made sense since her character is a liar, and it made sense that Shawn wouldn't do that. Having it take place off screen so both Noa and the audience don't know what really happened sets it up. They really don't know how to write their own characters.
Character assassination fr
And when randomly suggesting that the new boyfriends could be suspects but somehow her new ass wasn’t made me think maybe she’s working with bloody rose
If Jen was a man, Shaun would be justified for beating her ass for her bs but I don’t think he would tho

i feel like noa and jen could’ve worked if they
1. didn’t lean into the bisexuals are cheaters stereotype
2. if they had better chemistry. imagine if they had a peter parker felicia hardy dynamic
It could've been a moment where she realizes Shawn is too good for her (lets be honest, he really is TOO good for her) and she decides that he deserves better and while in her sadness of the breakup, Jen comes back
Worked as what? The whole thing seems pretty gross.
This is actually genius. Age regression is something not a lot of people talk about and could've been so helpful to start a conversation on
I have never heard of that before!
Of course they'd make Noa fall into the cheating bisexual stereotype :///
i gotta say, something that really bugs me about this show is that it’s called ‘Pretty Little Liars: Summer School’ but not only are they rarely IN school, but they are also not liars? everyone in town INCLUDING their parents AND the police are very well aware of what happened to these girls.
None of the townspeople believe that Tabby and Imogen were raped.

This! Noa had no right to destroy Shawn’s car. I hope he presses charges.
Noa was the only likeable character they had and they ruined her in two episode and made her stupid the entire season 😅😅😅

Whoever support Jen and Nora relationships has to be high school or middle school.
don’t blame aria for not having morals because she was groomed by an adult man as a child and developed a severe and deep rooted trauma bond 😭
And it would be OK (from a storytelling point of view) to have Norah cheat; characters don’t have to be good people to be good characters. However, the narrative has to acknowledge that she’s the bad guy in that scenario.
@@amymak93 yeah the structure it like the audience would be on Noa side by the end of the season.

Sadly, that seems to be a pretty common theme with these teen murder mystery shows. If I remember correctly, the original, PLL was like that too. The writers try to outsmart the audience by just not having any plans so they can pick the exact opposite person of whoever everyone guesses.
@@RB-vo4gi At least the original series got 3-4 seasons out before people started realizing the writers didn't even know who A was at all.
Flashback of the black hood reveal from Riverdale season 2
Uh neither did the original cast🙄
my main 2 issues with the show are:
1) WHERE ARE THE PARENTS -- not even for realistic issues but because the moms add so much importance to the backstory of Angela Waters & why "A" wanted revenge. Kelly is more interesting than the main 5 girls to me because of her dynamic w/ her mother Mrs. Beasley
2) WHERE ARE THE SASSY "A" TEXTS???
That cast needs an award just for being able to say Spooky Spagetti with a straight face.
I swear Shawn better report Noa to the cops for destroying his car. Also while he's at it report Jen too for breaking into his house! That way he won't be able to come 50 feet near them like she wanted.
in the original pll, i always had an issue with how they never closed their curtains, even though they knew they had an aggressive stalker. to learn that in this show, their nonchalance gets even worse? incredible.

It's so dumb, my god, Roberto.

tbf it’s also found its audience from what i’ve observed. still not super popular, but at the very least it has that
Idk if you can call it a passion project when it so deeply lacks passion...
32:10 its like the writers wants EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER to have a fucking love-interest rather than an actual good plotline
and yet somehow it's the only gay couple that gets demonized.
Early on in the first episode my friend and I decided to take a drink every time they said Spooky Spaghetti. Mistakes were made.
@@taylordacquelclayton Oh man, I hope none of you passed out
Honestly, I thought you were about to reveal that Jen was the one how damaged the wall to frame Shawn as dangerous and unstable so Noa wouldn’t be tempted to go back to him. But they really expect us to see this all as okay.
As a bisexual, this is not the representation Roberto thinks it is. As others have mentioned, this just plays into the stereotype of bisexuals being cheaters and having a higher disposition to being promiscuous.
I thought she's gonna be done with her and said you can't live in the past and I have someone, she just upset and left maybe dead too
Disappointed, she's the bad seed not shaun
I've met more bisexuals like this than not.

How is it possible that a man like Roberto has watched so many movies and yet simultaneously managed to learn NO WRITING SKILLS from watching them?
Other than being unsettling and creepy and weird, Roberto watched TOO MANY movies in my opinion. He is trying to write fiction-like fiction. Not stories that connect to real life, but are fiction. Not sure if it makes sense, but it does feel like he doesn't have a relationship with hor real people and real life are.
I have only watched the first episode of this season, but I'm forever grateful to Dylan for sticking it out, just to make this video. We salute you, Friendly Space Ninja!
1. Is anyone else seeing how much Imogen looks like Sabrina? Roberto has a weird type
2. It's insane that RAS is incapable of writing healthy queer relationships. Jen is a thief and Noa a cheater in this show. Cheryl in Riverdale was a literal abuser but she was constantly painted as a victim and her relationship with her abuse victim was romanticized to hell and back
And the writer is a gay man himself, he's just the same as Ryan Murphy
Here’s a tip for tv show writers: if the plot of your season can be wrapped up in the first six minutes in the next season? Just wrap it up in the first season. You don’t HAVE to have a cliffhanger. I especially don’t want one if it’s going to amount to nothing. And (for good tv shows at least) with the way tv shows are getting canceled, I’d rather each season have a coherent ending.
to me Noa’s storyline and character assassination is similar to Cassie’s in Euphoria season 2.
this is actually so true
So valid it's insane
It actually reminded me of Jules' character assassination more. Like, Rue and Jules had such an interesting toxic relationship dynamic there was no need to add cheating as well. But hey, it's almost a requirement for sapphic couples in media to have a cheating plotline.
Yes
I know the show sucks for most of you guys, I don't care, I wanna see season 3
For noa
The show couldn't even commit to one of the girls killing someone--Tabby didn't kill Wes! He's later mentioned as going off to jail as well.
She pitchforked him through the chest and he didn’t die!?! WTF?

If they had just spent even 15 minutes of an afternoon brainstorming names for their site, I'm almost certain 'Berto could've come up with something better than spooky spaghetti. This is so hilariously sad
Just off the top of my head-Cursr. In-universe they meant to play off of "cursor" and instead a bunch of teens decided it meant "curse" and turned it into the creepypasta site. Its not great but its quick to say and nowhere near as cringe as "spooky spaghetti"
I think they were tryna copy Creepy Pasta which is a real thing but creepy pasta and spooky spaghetti are both still horrible names 😂😂😂

The best part about new Roberto project is that I know we are getting a new FSN video
The one thing I thought was interesting because it’s probably the most realistic thing, that the serial killer would have “fans”.
I do…
I don’t even bother watching the remakes.
Why are so many modern tv shows so bad at holding female characters accountable for problematic behavior
I guess they scroll tik tok instead of doing actual research.
It shows a blatant lack of research or even care about the youths they're portraying in horrendous lights.
because they misinterpret bad attitude female as badass
The point of the OG Liar’s to not go to the police whilst being harassed by “A”was because the audience could see the girls maybe had something to do with Allison’s death and they didn’t want to get caught up in the investigation. So they kept it to themselves to figure out. For these new girls to not have any reason to hide anything and are being stalked and NOT go to the police makes 0 sense. If they wanted that then WRITE A BETTER SHOW.
Edit: what are these clothes? The OG show had the most character driven costumes and amazing designers. All the girls look like they shopped at SHEIN and have no individuality.
And it’s the way the fashion is better this season too
also! the OG liars all had secrets that A held over them that they didn’t want to get out
@@Zoe-fi9hkexactly! It had LAYERS
also the jenna thing
After hearing the Noa side plot I was kind rooting for the killer to do her thing with her😂
Hold up. Roberto was responsible for Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark?!
That infamous play that resulted in actors being injured, the play being overbudget, and had an overall negative reception?
Welcome back doctor Sullivan. This is definitely not a desperation move from the creators' side no sir.
The fact that Noa thought destroying someone’s car and then threatening them was comparable to someone… punching your wall.
But why would Shawn want to be in a throuple with a cheater and a person he barely knows? He deserves better
roberto thinks equality is when women treat men as Badly as “”men treat women”” all of his shows feel like someone asking, what if the streets were made of pudding ?
I like how when they said they were gonna make a more horror centered version of pretty little liars they really just meant they're gonna steal the plots and famous parts of horror movies and hope it makes a good show
Fr they made a shitty slasher out of a psychological horror series. This hurts my soul.
Poor shaun - what the heck were the writers thinking 😭😭😭

it's always fascinating to me to see all the creative ways media can be deeply homophobic while having a relatively diverse cast of queer characters.
it reminds me of 90s era cartoons that'd have exactly 1 episode with someone in a wheelchair and they were so simplistic and wooden that the inclusion is insulting and potentially hurtful to that actual demographic they're trying to speak to.
hell, i'd be all for a different show with good writers having two queer ladies be evil and build around their shittiness to have complex and flawed characters who may (or may not) grow, learn, and change for the better. that feels like a core appeal of Poison Ivy and Harley Quin to me tbh.
Poison ivy was character assassinated the moment she just became harley's sassy sidekick
Roberto and space ninja are the greatest of rivals

I don't know why, but the fact that I didn't know about this until now makes me feel like I'm making good choices.
Small detail but as a black girl, the fact that Faren doesnt wear a swim cap...urks me
I just realized that and ugh, that’s annoying to see. I have Afro textured hair and I would NEVER think of going in a CHLORINATED BODY OF WATER without some kind of protection for my hair/putting it up.
For real and Emily wore a swim cap in PLL so Faran definitely should. It’s weird to me that neither Tabby or Faran have hair passed like 3a as well.
Out of genuine curiosity, why is this? How does it interact differently with chlorinated water than other hair textures?
@petloverspy Chlorine and salt water will dry out our hair, making it more suseptable to breakage and hair damage because it becomes so brittle from drying out
@@dessieb145Wait so not just the character, but the actress is damaging her hair as well for no reason?
Sean is such an overall good guy and it was so awful to watch them try to make him into the bad guy this season while noah and jen are being absolute maniacs.
i never thought a character getting into a gay relationship would make me hate them but it was so insufferable. he's the one who was wronged so it made NO sense to attempt to villainize him when he risked so much for noa just for her to throw him away for such a horrible person
