i love the content you guys make and i love the way you guys speak even though i may not understand some times lol. thank you for all you do!
Wow , been following since inception & this episode was very special ! Thank you guys will be DL' Casey's book .
Hi guys, highest respect.
20:40 Circ- do you need an audience prior to brand attributes? Hmmm. I’d offer that having clarity on your vision, and from that beginning your brand attributes prior to audience testing is wiser.
If you don’t know your target audience (an essential component of branding), and you’re just fishing to see who likes your music, well, ok. But if your clarity of vision has done the proper branding work of identifying the target customer, better to prepare those brand qualities in advance of creating content for that audience.
Current common practice in most product launches - if you’re approaching your music as a business (which you guys advocate!), probably want to study this flow:
1. Branding
2. Content
3. Advertising
4. Optimization
Yo, can you guys talk about age? This has been a real problem when I speak with artists.. Artists particularly over the age of 24 or 25. They tend to have this ageism notion and feel like it's over for them and their career that they passed a certain age. I'm wondering what the parallels are in the space. I see so many artists blowing up in their late 20's early 30's but these artists seem to not understand. And I'm friends with A LOT of artists, big and small. If you guys can make a video dedicated to this group of people who believe they're too old to win, that would be amazing.
I know I'm just one person and it seems like I'm the only one suggesting this, but I promise you that this video will have a great impact on the many artists who watch your videos who may be going through this. It's a tough thing mentally if you're in it. I've seen people cry and become obsessive over this.
+1 on this topic!! @@dankaf3383
Agreed. Would be very useful, great suggestion.
Age only matters to music labels. They want young people because that's generally what makes more money for them. Since anyone can go independent now, you can financially live off music at any age. You just have to put in the work. Making it in the music business is not easy whether you're young or old. I'd argue that some older musicians just don't want to put in the work and would rather subconsciously blame it on age.
Uh.. if we can define "what makes more money for them" in terms of "younger people know little to nothing about life and business so they can put them in terrible deals easier" then sure. But age is not a marker for success and how much money someone can generate a label, it's more about the deals they can fuck them over with@@NickwatchesYTtho
Captain Murphy is Flying Lotus
This reference just earned my subscription. I think MF Doom was the most mysterious character in hip hop and he wasn’t necessarily famous til after his death. But he also gamed the game with his alter egos.
Y’all guys have a bright future ahead. You guys have answered questions I couldn’t find the answer to. Would love to shoot the shit 💩 sometime!
MF Doom (RIP) is Sevv Love from KMD.
Where is the branding guide? Cant find it brother
I cannot find the link for the workbook. Is there a link available?
I would give a short definition for Brand. It's the qualities of desirable perception that make a company, person or service RECOGNIZABLE. Recognition occurs in the individual when it is perceived in the individual's mind that they have SEEN IT BEFORE.
Once it is recognized, it has qualities or perceptions CONNECTED to the recognition.
Am I trippin or did they say free ebook in description? I cant find it
Ya hi me too
Bullied kids afraid to go to the internet was a bar and perfectly defines what holds alot of artist back including myself previously
Great episode, as usual. Where can we find that brand book link?

Great info! Thanks guys
Time to rebrand
Loved the video but where is the workbook pleasee
What about an artist with multiple pen names? I.e. a songwriter that wants to live in separate genres for the sake of songwriting, without being a “label chasing” artist? Could mystery help this particular songwriter? (I think this is relevant as AI becomes a more stable tool for artists to genre-hop)
PURE GOLD!
where is the workbook link? i can't see it
Loved it guys
The intro tho.. dirty south🔥
100000% agree guys
Captain Murphy is Flying Lotus artist name
H.E.R. was a lil' mysterious for a while until she had to show who she was.
I’m wondering when Sleep Token will have to evolve beyond the “mysterious artist” persona.
They’re absolutely one of the exceptions that we’re referred to and furthermore, I think that was possible because the singer has had a long career and had built a lot of business infrastructure for himself ahead of that project. He definitely didn’t just start it on a whim, he had a plan.
Thank goodness for KING CIRCA. we LOVE this so much. This company is revolutionary and has changed the game entirely
