The Howard Gospel Choir of Howard University sings "Total Praise" at Georgetown University's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Week in Washington, DC.
Moved me to tears, and this inspires me to do much more, when i'm praising the Lord. I should not be ashamed to talk about him, or to express my love for him, nor should I spit in his face by sinning every day, I should show my gratitude towards him, in everything I do, and I must do it, with all of my strength, HE is worth more than life to me.
I feel the soprano section needs to be strong in this song, and I've never heard a stronger soprano section! Thank you, Lord for the Howard Gospel Choir.
The song was so tight jesus left his throne in heaven down to Howard university but missed his flight back up cos he had to stick around for the next service just to hear that song one more time
To think Heaven's Army will be infinitely more thunderous and harmonious than this when Jesus returns!!! Until then this will do me fine. #thanksforsharing
One of my favorite songs to sing during my choir Days - 10 years yo be exact!. You need to be in the right spirit to sing this one. We never really knew what song we would sing but the choir director would have us practice it for months ahead and pick it when the spirit of God moved on it. Total Praise is not a song that you just sing from knowing; rather by the Spirit that moves with strong conviction to express the depth of God's Heart. We sang this song during a Gospel road trip to Europe inside of a Castle . The spirit of God moved quickly and the entire atrium entrance was filled with God's Glory . It was like the train of his robe that filled the temple. Those days are times I never forget because when you sing in a Choir, it is a Total commitment of time - not just singing but much praying to express the heart of God in order to reach souls. That's what Gospel is all about!
Getting chills and goosebumps just by watching this on youtube. By far my favorite place to listen to gospel music. I love you Howard, from the moment I attended, and I love you Gospel and Community Choir, from the moment my ears resonated with your voices. God is good.
Thank you so much! #BisonLove We recently released a brand new album entitled "Glorious God." Get your copy using any of the following links: Physical CDS: smarturl.it/GloriousGod iTunes: smarturl.it/GloriousGod_iTunes Amazon: smarturl.it/GloriousGod_Amz Google Play: smarturl.it/GloriousGod_GPlay
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW Beautifully done people! Tears pop up in my eyes. I hope heaven's worship will be like this! the passion of your faith blows everything away. Great conductor too!
The strong male vocals really give this performance more vocal "weight" than most of the other versions I've seen - when they really start to kick in at 4:50 - WOW
This, without a doubt, is my most favorite version among so many I have seen and heard! Excellent music arrangement, great combined voices of the Choir, and outstanding choir director. They sang so beautifully with all of their might and full of soul. Job well done, Choir! To GOD be the glory!!!!

Let the truth be told: this interpretation was made in heaven. Maestro, the Lord has bestowed upon you such a gift it would not be far fetched to say you could conduct the holy angels. Reading the comments below about the arrangement, the voices...and the finale, far from me to have expected anything as exceptional and powerful a rendition and the ending would sound like. It's so impressive (I am almost speechless) that from 4 min 40s onward I keep on going back to the last part of the ending.
@Michelle mokabeng - Wow...we appreciate the feedback. It's always amazing to hear about the kind of impact that we have on those who encounter us...thank you so much for this message.
I was a member of the Howard University Gospel Choir from 1970 through 1973, and our outstanding director's name was Hoppy. He was a bishop, but that is the only name I remember. Can anyone give me any more information about him? Also, we put out an album named "Beginnings" and I would be most appreciative if anyone could also point me in the direction of getting another copy of that album. Thanks and keep on singing and praising.
you guys supported all parts.. excellent.. the hall had a slight echo on the recording though... i wish i had a copy of you guys singing into a high def mic!!! i love the performance either way though great crescendo's too!
I love this video!!!! You all soud sooooo good on this song. Makes me wanna hear you all do Nina Simone's "Don't let me be misunderstood". That would be awesome!!!!!!!

How re they lined up? They're clearly not standing in the traditional Sop, Tenor, Alto formation (homegirl on top right hand corner appears to be singing soprano but the girls in front of her arent...then girl on the top row in the middle appears to be singing sop and others scattered throughout). Is there a basis for this nontraditional formation?
@Clemsonshawty - We are standing mixed...our placement is at the discretion of our director. Sometimes we stand in our sections, and sometimes we do not.
