    I love how Richard Smallwood is tough on the tenors... most choirs see tenors as "leftovers"....but he doesn't...he "focuses on" and "strengthens" the tenors...🙌🙏

    Wow, that's a real choir practice session. Lol. I would be so nervous to sing in his choir, but I'm sure I'd learn a lot.

    Watching Mr. Smallwood is like watching my mother teaching a song. "Who is that back there sounding like a bus!? If you can't sing it, just move ya lips!" Always the tenors....lol

      He makes a good point! "If you're not sure, don't sing it!" My choir when we sang that song the tenors ALWAYS sang the wrong note on "hills" like he pointed out

    Good Words! We should all be challenged to be the best that we can be. I'm also glad to hear him address the one problematic (harmonically) spot in the song - the dissonance created between the vocals and the accompaniment on the word "hills". Smallwood wants it to be dissonant (for some reason), so sing it that way!

    • @smallrich
      @smallrich 5 лет назад +1

      no.......hills is not dissonant....its a plain Bb 7th chord that has no dissonance at all...the accompaniment and the vocals should be the same....a Bb7....no dissonance. is in this harmony or chord at all..

    i know this is years later but not somebody in the tenor section pissing the maestro off for constantly singing the wrong note 11:06-12:27. he was so mad lol. hopefully they got it right and sing it the right way to this day cause aint no way. i'd be so embarrass if i made THEE richard smallwood upset for singing one of his songs wrong while he's teaching me the song

    I noticed that Richard Smallwood always has his right leg leading forward...hmmm maybe a habit he picked up throughout the years.🤔

    • @mochaswiss

      i think he developed a hip issue later on or something cause in an interview i seen that he did he mentioned that he had a total hip replacement in his right hip. so it probably hurt at times to put pressure on it hence him putting most of the weight on his left leg and having his right leg forward

    tenor parts in total praise are simple yet challenging, it's the weirdest musical oxymoron that i've ever encountered lol.
