- In this tutorial I will be demonstrating how I mix up a batch of gelatin for running prosthetics. This recipe is good for making prosthetics because I added a few special ingredients to make the gelatin last and stand up to body heat. Hope you enjoy and subscribe for more. I will be making a video on how to make the prosthetics as well as how to mold the sculptures.

Angie

I am so sorry that I have been missing in action lately. I've had the flu and it really took me down, my voice is still a little crackly. I also had an incident with my ring light and had to buy a new one. But hey at least I'll be back in action for Halloween.
Speaking of do you guys think I should attempt 31 days of Halloween in October? If you do leave any requests below.
LOVE YOU ALL AND I HAVE MISSED YOU!!!!! :D
used this last halloween to make 3rd degree burns, it was extremely impressive for the price, it may not have worked as well as gel-10 but for the price it is much better. thank you so much for sharing this.
I think 31 days of October would be amazing. I have a few requests of my own. 😊
- Freaky Fred from Courage the Cowardly Dog
- Maybe a creature from "Where the Wild Things Are"
-The Weeping Angel from Doctor Who
-Medusa from Greek Mythology
-A childhood nightmare (maybe from your own dreams) like what you used to think the boogeyman looked like.
- The BaBa Dook (I hope you liked the movie 😊)
-Mama from the movie "Mama"
Those are some looks I would LOVE to see you create and maybe put a little spin of your own to them. Thank you! 😀 I hope it's not too difficult. 😄
Nami Nuitsuki Thanks for the requests Nami! I have a Medusa from a LONG time ago, maybe I'll re-do her!
goldiestarling Hi Angie! Me too, would like to see the Babadook....I saw the movie and the creature is terrible!
+goldiestarling thank you so much! I'm sorry I didn't see the Medusa video. 😆
Nami Nuitsuki No worries! I don't even remember what it looks like lol. :D
goldiestarling maybe you can also do the scary-looking fawn from Pan's labyrinth! It looks really cool!
Short, sweet, and straight to the point! Thank you 🙏You are wonderful. Very help! 👍
Hi!
I'm a big fan of this recipe!
However I'm having issues blending the edges of the prosthetics I run with it. Witch hazel seems to only have a minimal effect on it. Any advice?
Thank you so much for all your amazing content!
"Hot glass looks like cold glass" was the warning given by my high school biology teacher years ago.
This is really helpful for me since I'm starting to get into special FX, thank you.
Love this video, thanks Angie! Definitely going to be using this :D
Love your channel!
Anyway... Can I use this recipe to make DIY 3D gel effects?
If I'm not mistaken, gel effects is a tad softer than gelatin used for prosthetics, so what can I add to this recipe to soften it a bit to make 3d gel effects?
How do you clean the container where you make this gelatin? Can you wash it with hot water over the sink and is it safe for plumbing?
Great one! I'll be saving this for later.
I've heard you have to let your gelatin mixture "bloom" before cooking it.
Do you skip that step?
Also, I was able to get pretty large quantities of glycerin off Amazon.
Diane Thomas I tried letting it sit/bloom but for this particular recipe it didn't come out right.
Thank you for showing how to do this. Im allergic to latex this will be wonderful to use. Do you microwave the cubes ? or how do you remelt it to use?
Hi Angie! I know you made this video a long time ago but I'm taking a shot in asking you this. If I can't get my hands on sorbitol is there a substitute I can use instead? Thanks you helped me in many ways with your videos ☺️
Hi Angie!Nobody I know has ever recreated an inspired look or transformation tutorial for the scary-looking fawn from the movie Pan's labyrinth!Maybe check it out to see if you would like it? lots of love! Hats off to your professionalism and dedication as a make-up artist!
Where I live I can only find 250 and 500 bloom gelatin! Which one of those you think will work better?
I know this is an old tutorial, but I tried it and I've got a question. I made it today, used a scale, bought the same stuff you used (I didn't have flocking powder). But the cubes are extremely sticky. If I melt them down and use a mold to make a prosthetic with them.... well it be this sticky still? I have to cut them out of the ice cube tray and handling them leaves my fingers with a sticky film.
Any tips on what I may have done wrong?
I once made my gelatin mix with glycerin water and gelatin from a food market, after 45 minutes the gelatin started to shrink, crack and fell off. And the little cubes i stored in my shop literally rotted... Any tips on what i did wrong ? And also, why the sorbitol ?
Would you be able to use this recipe as a base for foam gelatin, would you have to leave the prosaid out or anything?
Hey goldiestarling great vid!
can you do it without sorbitol? what does sorbitol do? thkns
hello! where do you put it.. Shelf, fridge or freezer? what helps the last the longest?😁
Would this be a good recipe to use as the gelatin case for Michael Davey's foamed gelatin?
hiya. i'm just starting out so apologies if this question is super dumb lol. i was wondering, you say to heat the mixture in the microwave, however can you use your everyday food microwave or would i need a separate microwave specially for this kind of job?
p.s. i am learning so much from your videos, thank you so much for that. i spent most of last year in a daze not knowing what i wanted to do with myself. but this year i have decided to stop messing about and start doing stuff that i love. so i am starting a RUclips channel (on a separate topic) and started to learn about sfx makeup techniques and putting together my kit ( halfway there already lol).
+Screamqueen3110 Nerd Nirvana Yes you can
squeee thank you so much , i bought supplies for this and the fake blood recipe today lol xxx
Hi! I have a question :o... What is for or what is the benefit of using sorbitol in the recipe? :)
Hi there! We are following this recipe to make some prosthetics and we can only find 220 bloom gelatin, does it work the same? thanks!
Question for you... so I noticed you use some additional materials as opposed to other RUclipsrs. Most only tell us to use gelatin (mostly for cooking), glycerin, and water. I tried this, but my pieces come out VERY sensitive and flaky... do yours come out more solidified and easy to apply to face?
I think the sorbitol is what makes it more sturdy.
thank you so much omg I've been looking for a video like this
Aliayha Franco You are so welcome! Glad it could help :D
Hi Goldie, could you make a video on how you use the gelatin cubes that you've made in this video, just so we can know the best/right way to go about it, it would be much appreciated :)
Julian Cobb Sure Julian! I already have just gotta edit the footage :D
+goldiestarling Thanks girl! You're so great :D I'm currently making moulds of internal organs that I've sculpted for my bachelor of Fine art graduation show project, and I've been wracking my brain as to what I could make the organs out of so that they'd look realistic and be squishy, and then you post this video and it was like fate :P
You can also get Sorbitol at the pharmacy. I got a good sized bottle at Walgreen for around 7 dollars. This is something you have to ask the pharmacist for directly most times.
Earendilgrey Good point! I had to ask for glycerin as well since people use it to make explosives.
Very helpful, thank you Angie.
About storage: in room temp will it rotten, evaporate or get spolied?
Many thanks!!!
I can't afford pros aide D: Is there any cheaper alternative I could use? And also, is it alright if I were to scrape powder from my makeup compact to colour it instead of the flocking powder?
Did you find anything else to increase durability
Could you do a video just outlining where you got all of your FX materials? and maybe approximate prices of said things?
You are so talented😓👏🏼
Would it be possible to use gelatine for your Chelsea smile tutorial instead of 3rd degree - ps I love your channel and all of your tutorials ❤️
Adam O'Neill Thanks Adam! Gelatin when applied to the skin is hard to sculpt and blend the edges. If you sculpted the smile in clay then molded it and ran gelatin it would work. But Third Degree in my opinion is probably the fastest way to get a good result.
+goldiestarling Okay thanks
Question. Do you let you your mixture set over night?
How long does this recipe of gelatin last ive made it with a different recipe and it never lasts long it starts to get moldy any advice would be great thanks❤️
You are amazing. I love sfx make up but is so hard to find all the sfx stuff here. Saludos desde Ecuador. ;)
goldiestarling, can i substitute the pros-aid with pva glue?? would it be the same??
thank you in advance,.
one question - do you have any idea on how to thicken the liquid latex? i have the Kryolan one but it's VERY watery and hard to work with.
anyway awesome idea, thank you for sharing! the only thing that bothers me is that in Poland most of the FX stuff is unaviable even from online stores. There are literally 4 FX stores in Poland and 2 online ones where I can order things from, but they don't really have even half of the things that i need. The only way to get these stuff is from ebay or american online stores shipping worldwide but then the shipping price is so goddamn huge that it just doesn't calculate.
for now i have some liquid latex, spirit gum, nose&scar wax, a few body paints and contact lenses but still everything is at least 2 times more expensive than in american stores. that sucks so much. :(
***** I feel your pain.
How close to Germany do you live?
Cause I can vouch for a Kryolan City Store and a SFX make up store both in Berlin. Maybe it would be worth an annual trip over the border or something?
SusanIvanova2257 thank you for the idea! i live quite far away from Berlin unfortunately, but i really need to think about that trip. :)
If you want you can message me on YT beforehand. I live in Berlin so maybe I can give you the adresses or help you otherwise!
You can still get Inglot relatively cheap though and I think you have Sephora. I'm still a bit annoyed that the only option you really have in Germany is Douglas, they are known for shitty customer service and annoying employees. I'm still pondering whether or not I should take a trip to Poland for Inglot and Sephora ;)
SusanIvanova2257 haha i used to work at Douglas. :D although i hope i was 'the nice one' ;) but the customer service standards in there are really weird, i need to say that. Yes, we do have Sephora (thank god) but it's quite overpriced. Inglot is great and it's over 2 times cheaper in here than it is is US. Nice to have good polish makeup brand! I know they have online store and ship to Germany, but it would be a lot cheaper to come here and buy stuff in polish złoty, they are very afordable brand . :)
Good to know that Sephora is pricey. We'll never get the American prices in Europe I guess, but I heard through the grapevine that Australia is even worse...
But yeah, Inglot is great I bought a few products when I was on a day trip in Poland.
Occasionally one finds a good sales person at Douglas but the majority is sadly somewhat arrogant and not particularly knowledgeable. I'm sure you were better ;)
Does anyone know where I can buy 300 bloom gelatin??? I've been looking everywhere and I don't know what kind to buy.
Hi Angie! Does your gelatin smell weird because I made some from a recipe from Glam and Gore and mine smells really bad
+Isabelle Robinson Oh yeah Isabelle, gelatin smells pretty bad no matter the recipe. Some people put vanilla flavoring to cut the smell.
+goldiestarling thanks so much! I love your channel💖
I cannot get my gelatin to come out of the ice cube tray, it's stuck so hard and won't pop out, chunks are tearing off trying to get them out. What did I do wrong? Lol. It think I possibly burned it as well but not sure.
I HAVE A QUESTION AND A REQUEST IF YOU HAVE TIME FOR EITHER PLEASE RESPOND!!!
First, I wanted to know... Does gelatin or latex work better for long wear? I've wanted to do makeup SO BAD for a LARP character of mine, but I'd be sweating and talking a lot with face peices on like in a convention setting, and I want to know what would last...
Also, speaking of LARP, please do a White Wolf Vampire The Masquerade Nosferatu if you ever have time! I've never EVER seen anybody do their own spin on the VTM Nos before, and I want to see someone do it so bad!!!
kurobarauchiha Foam latex would be better than gelatin. You can also add a layer of Mehron's Skin Prep, it's a sweat retardant. Is the White Wolf Vampire in a video game? I'm so behind the times lol
goldiestarling Thank you so much for getting back to me! And believe it or not, Vampires The Masquerade is actually much older! Early 90's if I'm correct? (old when it comes to technology!)
It was originally a tabletop game system similar to Dungeons and Dragons created by a company called White Wolf... But then it spread out into things like computer games, TV shows, and card games too~
Nosferatu is the name of one of the 'clans' of vampires, and it's probably one of the most iconic for the game because it's the most memorable visually... They are the ones that are physically distorted by the curse of being a vampire, while others stay mostly human... You should look them up online! I typed in "vampires the masquerade nosferatu" on Google and they have all kinds of pictures...
20 -30 seconds for a 700 w microwave. But how long to give the mixture in an 1100w microwave?
Hey angie! Do you have any products that would make good fake tattoos that last pretty well? xx
***** Tattoo transfers are great, inexpensive and you apply them with water. I get mine from Frends Beauty supply. They sell them in store and online too.
Thank you!
***** If you have a very specific design in mind that isn't available as transfer tattoo maybe use alcohol activated paint?
SusanIvanova2257 yeah, I was considering that! I might try it when I buy a palette of colors. :) Thanks!
hi Goldie my gelatin didnt come out working and idk what i should add to make it a solid more gelatin? please help meee!!!!!
Where do you get your flocking material?
Is there an alternative you can use instead of the Gelatin?
What ingredients should be added to the gelatin, it should be a tool with high elasticity and strong in winning shots.
great video! thanks
Is this type of gelatin different from a Knox type gelatin.... Does this special fx gelatin not melt as fast or what
+breah scott Yes I'm using a 300 bloom gelatin and Knox is about a 70 bloom gelatin. 300 bloom melts better and picks up details when running prosthetics.
Hello! I really want to make a fake cut but i dont have any money to but modelling wax. I dont know what to do... Do you know what i could use instead of wax? It would be a great help if you replied!
I use cotton (the fluffy kind) and kids glue. Not the best for your skin, I know >.
+Kimberley B but how would you make that into a fake cut? Im talking about like making a sausage out of wax, sticking it on the place where you want the fake cut, blending it with foundation, cutting through it and adding blood in the middle... How can you do that with cotton?
Hello Mudsaur Mix Vaseline and flour, I've never used it but I've heard it works in a pinch.
+Hello Mudsaur
I use liquid latex toilet paper and foundation and fake blood to make fake cuts
first you put the latex on your skin then add toilet paper then add latex then add toilet paper
repeat that prosses 5 times
let the latex dry put the foundation on the toilet paper
cut the toilet paper with scissors put latex were you cut it put toilet paper in it then add a lot of fake blood its actually easier than it sounds
+Nicholas Peralez ...i dont have latex either.
I have been watching your videos for a long time and I think you are great. I am not a professional, or a make artist etc but I LOVE Halloween. Is there anyway I can send you a picture to see if you can give me ideas on how to do it? thank you
awesome video
How much prosaide and how much water do you add?
how long does a gelatin prosthetic last for? can they be reused?
+Aizakku s so it won't rot or anything? that's my main concern lol
***** ok thank you so much!
Gelatin doesn't completely dissolve in sorbitol and glycerin with less water
ice tray, brilliant!
Josh Sweet That's what I said when I saw Stuart Bray's tutorial :D
Can I use the same gelantin which is used for cakes
that stuff is high now what about store baught geltine does it work ?
+Danny Solsberry If you're just using it on the skin for effects it should be fine. I used the finer grained gelatin because it dissolves better and picks up detail in my mold.
Why use sobitol?
Hi can i use vegatable gelatine ? X
can you use a dry sorbitol?
what do you use the gelatin for??
+Aizakku s that is so cool
Could you do a drag tutorial? 💁🏽
Or maybe drag gone wrong to Halloween-ify it? 🎃
So after your done how do you use it lol
Did you powder with baby powder?
haynerbass Sure did! :D
Yes she did
I thought so, but I strongly dislike assumptions when it comes to something that may spell disaster.
except the gelatin...
i cant get anything...
Qual é o tipo de glicerina? Vegetal ou animal?
ummm can't I use just (food) gelatine and water ?:/
you can but it will be too weak and will break on use
I made some strong scar wax (needs to be hot to apply) using regular gelatin powder, glycerin and water. if I remember correctly I let 1.5 table spoon of gelatin and 1.5 table spoon of water set for a bit, letting the gelatin bloom. Then I added 2 teaspoons of glycerin to the mixture. Heat it up in 3 second intervals, don't let it boil. Add a tiny bit of foundation for coloring and the mixture is done. This stuff is quite strong, haven't tried pouring it into a mold yet, but I did spread out a thin layer in some plastic, let it set for half an hour and that layer was really strong. Perhaps you can give this recipe a try, just keep in mind not to overheat it and keep the same ratio at all times.
What scale is that?
Is there a vegan-friendly solution to gelatine? Thanks everyone! :)
Agar agar :)))
How to make gelatin: well first you need gelatin😐
うわああ~(^^ so cool!!
explosivekind Thank you! :D
