The clarinet used to hold a high place in popular music. Then it seems like the sax players took over. I’d love it if that old licorice stick made a comeback!

I think Artie Shaw technically was a better clarinet player by a very small amount but Benny Goodman was the much better bandleader only because Artie Shaw in his own words got bored too easily. But who told Irving Fazola as a New Orleans Jazz Clarinetist?

It could be worse than this. This is supposed to be SWING, which is real dance music with brisk dynamics. Not classical. Here there is no drive: the orchestra is asleep, can't play swing, can't play for people dancing, only for people sitting. The clarinettists can't swing either, doesn't feel the rhythm, lacks daring dynamics and accents, plays with too polished tone (classical background?) with no bite. Everything ends up sounding monotonous like artificial-jazzy-classical-mash that has no drive or bite.

@@kei4555 once your gliss is approaching the c, put down the fingering for c#, and then once you hit the c# prepare for the g fingering. Should be able to use your mouth for the notes inbetween, it takes a little bit of practice to get it smooth between those 2 sections, but just remember to have good air support and you'll be right

...I totally agree but of the ones I have heard on You Tube, she is the best. OMG, she' blew ' as in lost it, the last note...her tone broke in two. Well, obviously these artists have been all classical players..they do not know how to play swing...they obviously did not listen much to Shaw's original version that we all love.
