The EXTREEM Halo test! I KNEW you talking about the hallway right away when you mentioned testing it in a more live envirement lol. And wow the difference is huge indeed!
Microphones, recording setup, and a professional advice... - love it!! :) [Rode NTK, NI Audio 6, Logic]
What I love most about well isolated rooms is that pleasing silence. Would love to also have such a room on my own for music production.
Good news about your new track Jon and glad your feeling better mate.
Much love ❤
7:24 it is possible to see the "mess" in the window...
Nice Vlog Jon! Liked it.
Thank you for showing us this in the extreme! 😊
Watching in 2021 and the cough at the beginning made me a little shook lol 🥲
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
WHOA!!! Thanks so much for this video! Finally an extreme example showing the capability!
Thanks for the review, Jon! Glad to hear you're enjoying the Halo and Spirit
OMG! Great review! This product is amazing.
Thanks for this great review! I just got the Aston Origin and I'm planning on getting the Halo soon. Any suggestions on a mic stand that will be able to properly hold both?
6:17 "Gather around people, for I Father Sine will speak about word of God"
Thank you for the extreme demo! I wish more people did that. This would be very usual when traveling and in a hotel room or empty conference room at a hotel or something.
The Best over all test on the Spirit and the Halo !
Thank you !
Hab mich schon auf das Video gefreut ;)
Thanks for making this review!
6:17. That is actually a great sounding reverb. I wonder if you could make an impulse response for it?
great review! Thank you very much for the video!
The camera quality oddly looks better than most vlogs here. Just sheer clarity
Thanks Jon. Good video. I have a tube mic which gets hot and needs to be hung upside down like most tubes. Does the Aston halo allow for a way to hang a tube mic upside-down without using a boom arm? Thanks.
I just ordered mine. Can't wait to get it...
Bigricky06 só how was it? I’m thinking of buying ine
@@kanyekubrick5391 It is a very great mic. I bought the spirit. what I can tell you is it does not sound extremely bright like some other condenser mic. it sounds very balance on vocals with the hi-pass filter switch on. you get good mid-body and nice top end to work with. also, it is a beautiful mic and extremely robust. it feels like a weapon...lol. but you will not go wrong with it. I have not tried it on instruments yet and also I am running it through my ART PRO CHANNEL II TUBE preamp. my vocal takes sound warm and thick with that combination.
I doubt anyone can find any difference (especially listening to the final mix), between an expensive, extremely high end mic and a prosumer mic (like a röde or spirit)
The quality of low end mic has improved dramatically in the last ten years!
paperodiabolico I agree, I think having a better mic and pre amp will give you a better starting point though
Do you have an opinion of the Origin mic verses the Spirit (By Aston)?
Thanks for the video
Why not using a denoiser or a gate for the video sound?
For music recording in a home studio is better to use a boom arm or a regular stand?
Question, I have this mic what settings are best for the Aston spirit? If I want to sit in front of it with guitar? And sing?
This thing looks awesome. I don't have a studio, I'm thinking of pairing this with a Blue Bluebird SL Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone for recording hiphop.
Can you please tell what the mic standis , would greatly appreciate it ❤
Halo is amazing. I need it for my garage.🌻
so much for the track not being any good ;) You sound way better bro, glad to hear you're feeling better. Best.
What microphone stand is this? Couldn't find it in description although everything is linked there
Thank you Jon for the great content and the hard work! We all learn a lot from you!
I have a question. If you had like 250 euros to spend on plugins, which ones would you choose? The essentials? I'm looking for reverb and some plugins to make vocals sound professional.
Are Valhalla reverb and waves ssl the must haves?
I have a few fabfilter plugins, they're great and the izotope rx (declick, ...) for making the recording clean and then the r vox from waves and another compressor (waves 1176 or fabfilters, ...). Ah, and autotune.
Right now waves has crazy discounts I think.
Nice vlog Jon!! Thanks! Will you have a meeting in Amsterdam? Or should i ask Lennard?😂
How does it work in noisy enviroments? Thanks!
Thanks, this got me to buy a Halo. There is a black version called Aston Halo Shadow for the Music Ninjas out there that do not like purple 🙂
great video!
Hey man, nice ronsee a review on this mic! Do you still use it?
What interface do you use?
'Baught today an Aston Halow Shadow ... couldnt realy decide between black and purple :) I am curios, how the recording will sond.
I tested out the Aston on my page, you might like what I did, great tests Jon
Attitude Rocker I’ll check it out!
Amazing, but please invest in a longer cable for your left monitoring box. It`s awful lookin at it otherwise.
Already ordered bothers me aswell every day
Great, I thought so. Wish you success.
😂
Are those speakers the adam a3x?
If anyone cares: I had the lewitt ltc 440 pure, the aston, and the at4040 and the clear winner was aston in quality, detail, dynamic and sound
Nah sorry, my comment is misleading. The building quality ain't better, everything I wrote was regarding the sound. Not the mics appearence
Just make a IR from the stairway reverb and share it with us 😁
the halo is perfect
i can buy the mic from u if u bout to sell it
Nice mic, nice review!
First
U look like someone I just cant wrap my head around who but u do
I've got the Halo and there's no way you were getting that clear of a recording, I have one myself, I record in the living room with furniture and there's still a small amount of reverb, and that's with a blanket behind me. Them results as amazing as they were seem way better than I'd get
MIC and how close you record plays a big role.
Yea you gotta get closer to the mic and make sure the mic is far in enough to the halo
I can't get mine in much cos the cable gets in the way plus being too close gives me proximity effect which I really don't want, my voice is boomy enough lol
Holy shit, I wasn’t watching the video, just listening to the audio, and thought you tested the halo with a gunshot.
Word that clap in the stairway almost blew my ears 🤣
There is a BIG difference yes
This was very good to show the Aston Halo in a room with many reflections. The difference is huge and you demonstrated just what the filter was designed for. However, when you moved outside of the filter area, your body was no longer in front of the mic to block to the reflection bouncing toward the mic from the wall behind you. We were also mostly hearing ing only what the sides of the mic picked (I assumed that you were not being blocked by the sides of the filer at that point). So with and without the filter was great to see. However, moving to the side wasn't a fair test if we were hearing the mic at that point (were we or was that the camera's audio?). Kudos to you though for being the only reviewer I found so far that wasn't testing this in a studio with far less wall reflections than what you should. For the best test though, I am going to see if anyone has a nice clean wall directly behind the mic facing the vocalist as well as a clean wall behind the vocalist and in front of the mic.
Just hearing hisssssss
sehr schön wie findest du das aston origin? überlege es mir anzuschaffen zu meinem Neumann und Telefunken
Rippppuuu hisssssssssss so sad
I bought it and really it's nothing to write home about. It helps a bit, but still, it cannot work as a standalone solution for your home studio. You need to have your whole room adjusted anyway. I was surprised that it seems to be empty inside. Seems like a card box covered with some material. Looks awesome, but not worth the money, really.
Well you’ve got to cover the back of your room the Halo already does the job. Just cover the back of your room which is the opposite of the Halo, where the condenser microphone is pointing and behind you.
I think the Halo is way to expensive for what it does but it`s good marketing though
If you don’t need to be mobile building something yourself might be better. 3 of the Ikea absorbers cover way more
@@Jonsine for shure.
btw. Have you ever tried recording in a car? :-)
For the price point Lewitt LCT..it is so underrated for everybody...why you don’t both don’t consider that? Have a look..for the price lct 441 special for vocals or vibrant sounds like acoustic guitars
agree, but not everyone is willing to get their hands dirty and build their own DIY stuff
@@RubenBettencourtGuitar I just picked up a Lewitt LCT-640 TS. I hear it’s an excellent mic. I can’t wait to unbox it and try it out!
This filter will BEND your mic cable !!!! There needs to be a gap in the slider to insert cable… because with this design, you’re forced to press the side of your mic cable on the metal part! And if you think you can move the mic back to prevent this, that’s useless because you’ll lose the benefits of this filter by moving it farther away…. No one talks about this….
the main problem that the halo doesn't cover behind the singer that's where the polar pattern pick the most, i've seen there are products that covers the head of the singer to isolate him. but in my experience i got better results putting the singer literaly in the closet
Yes you're right, the halo is pretty useless because if you use a cardio mic it will pick up all the sound from the front and the sides, but no sound what so ever coming from the back. But also, if the singer is standing with his/her back to a wall it would take the sound traveling first to the wall they are facing, then back to the wall on their backside, and then from there back into the mic. Which is really a negligible amount if you ask me, and also they are blocking the mic directly with the back of their head which again diffuses the soundwaves. But that being said, having a bit of room acoustics is not always a bad thing as long as most of the instruments/voices in your track were recorded in that same room. Maybe not for vocals most of the time but for drums it is always a plus to have them recorded in a big live sounding room where you actually hear the accoustics of the room in the recording. Anyway.... whatever... if you're having fun doing music you're doing it right.
You guys are absolutely dumb
Idk what to comment so i wrote this 🤣😂😂
Why would you do a mic review with a piece of shit pre-amp? Thumbs down, dude. The noise level is ridiculous.
