OMG, what I just saw? I have to spend may be a year to learn all the tips and tricks I sow here for half an hour. I am new to solid works, and watching this makes me to worship the person, who works like this in SW. Thank you for the great video - I learned (and found what to learn) a lot.
m8 you rock. AutoCAD user that only recently started transitioning to SolidWorks and your explanations are clear, fast and very useful. I wish my university had professors that could articulate and transmit their knowledge like this! Cheers!
Wonderful guide with lots of information, But i got lost in the part where you are selecting the ends of the pieces at around 5:00 , I try the same thing as you're doing but it selects the entire lines instead of the segments. is there a setting im overlooking? Thank you in advance.
Thanks for your great videos that were surely inspiring to me and i have 2 question 1.I can't make the description column with each cut list component dimensions correctly shown (plate 10*10*10) 2.how can i convert each cut list part into a dxf file to be machines on a Cnc Router or any machine ? Thank you in advance
Hi Jamie, Great Tutorial. Just one question, have you any suggestions how to deal with Edge Tape in a straight forward manner? So that you get the cut lengths required on the BOM.
Hi Tinhead NZ First create a global variable called 'edgeband, and give it a value of the thickness (i.e. 1 or 2mm) Some ways could then include: SPLIT BODY - You can use a sketch dimensioned with the global variable, to simply split the body in to the main panel, and the edgeband - this would then be reported with the correct information (i.e. thickness) and width and length. MOVE FACE - The 'move face' is a great command. simply do a 'move face' on the face you want to edge-band, and assign the global variable 'edgeband' to it. Then you can simply sketch on the new moved face, extract the edges of the face, and do an extrude to the value of the global variable. Good luck! JT
Just stumbled across this superb video, nice to see how easily the software can be used for woodworking, unfortunately the link for the library doesn't work. Is there anywhere else I can get the library from?
i looked everywhere for what i am about to ask and found nothing, how did you or how can one incorporate the assembly parts(ex: drawers, panels or smaller furniture doors) in the "cutlist",because once you enter the make assembly from part and you use multiple parts you no longer have the welderment cutlist option, and if you were to make a bom table it just shows a vaguely component table.Long story short,if you were to make those drawers in the welderment cut list(so you can order the sizez for the drawer) and incorporate them in the main sketch witch in this case is the desk itself how would you do that because making them in the make assembly from part option there is no welderment list, and the bop doesn't show all the lengs and sizez for the pannel
Jamie very cool tutorial 3 questions. 1. My cut list isn't the same as yours? 2. During the A3 drawing when I output the Model not all of the dimensions appear? 3. When I go back to the sketch and double click I see the dimensions but I can't change the sizes. I can retype the numbers but nothing happens =( Anyone else having the same problems?
your first question: in the model expand cutlist and right click each "plate" and select "create bounding box". in the drawing make sure when selecting weld cut list select the template "cut list". By creating bounding box the sw creates bunch of parameters such as length, width, thickness, volume and some more. and if you know how to create custom tables you can actually separate these parameters into different columns having whatever column name you desire. for third question, make sure your dimension is not driven (gray color). and if the dimension is not driven, then maby you simply need to update your model (click stop light icon).
Dear Jamie Thain / CADTEK. Very nice tutorial. Really appreciate it. Would you be kind enough to make a tutorial or give a step by step on how to create the Library furniture features. I am particularly interested in the Dowels that you used in this video. I know that I am supposed to be able to make them myself. I would really love to, but not sure how to. I want to be able to (as you did in the video) just drop a dowel from the library to a joint and have SW populate it for me. Could you share it. Just the smart Dowels please. I cant find any instruction about this anywhere. Woodworking part of SW in really not so wide spread. I really appreciate your help.
Any idea why in my solidworks, the rendering (photoview 360) doesn't work. The option isn't greyed out or anything, it's just that when I click on the rendering, nothing really happens.
Hi, When i use the cutlist for my furniturepart the table is not filled in like yours is. How do I get the description colomn to be filled in automatically? Awesome video btw, I learned a lot from this.
HI cadtek. Im starting with SW, When I was doing all de same you do in mi cut list it doesn`t apear in de description de measures of each pice. Can you help mi with this?
Hi Jamie, - Fantastic Tutorial. I'm definitely looking forward to taking my woodworking to new levels with such a powerful new addition (SW) in my toolbox. I hate to sound like a broken record in the thread here, but have you a download location for the libraries used in this video? Thanks brother - again Very Appreciative of an EXTREMELY well done tutorial video. Thank you kindly!
+Cadtek TV Hello Jamie, Thanks a lot for this fantastic tutorial. Could you please send the library to redkuul (a) gmail.com? I would very much appreciate it for designing my DIY desk. Thanks upfront!
@@CadtekElite Ive just found this video and love the toolbox features. can you please send me a copy as well? or a link to where i can download it. Much appreciated
Hi Suhas Kumbhar You can create cutting lists directly in SolidWorks. As long as you are creating a 'weldment' (i.e. multi-body part) then you can RMB on 'cutlist' in feature tree, and select 'create bounding box'. Then 'update cutlist'. In a drawing, create a 'weldment cut-list' table. SolidWorks doesn't currently create CNC code for these parts, although partner products are available that sit within the SolidWorks interface. JT

+saleel smt Hi - if you right-click on the CUT LIST in the feature manager tree, you can "CREATE BOUNDING BOX" which will then report back the biggest X, Y and Z dimensions into your cut-list on the technical drawing. Very good tutorial, but please next time try to slow down your talking speed. It gets hard to understand you, and even worst for not english native audience like me. :) Thanks!.
No. Do not say "snap" those handles in. This ain't old school autocad with snapping a line to a dumb grid spot...stuff like that. You know what I mean. In solidworks, you simply "insert a component" and then you "mate it". Rightttttt!!!! BTW, you need to open that components(shelf front) place a hole for the hardware and fastener. Details, details... Cheers mate 2023!

Hello Jonas, I have the same problem. How did you solve that?
when in your part, rightclick on cutlist, then "create boundingbox". Be sure you didnt mess around with the properties before like I did
rightclick on cut list but I dont have "create boundingbox"
update then create boundingbox
