Thanks for making this channel. It's a great idea and hopefully you can grow it as you grow. Im like you, a student. I am almost finishing my degree but don't have any practical experience so I decided to build a lab and need a lot of direction. I will follow your channel to see what you do, as I may end up doing the same things. Great video for the beginner, since the others I found were not easy to follow. Nice job documenting!
Thank you very much! I totally understand how important practical experience is and since I haven’t had much help with it, I’ve decided to figure things out on my own and help others along the way.
Thank U for the guidance. You are awesome. I just finished some Ethical Hacking homework that used all of those items on a virtual lab assignment. I''ll keep subscribing.

semper gumby Yo! I’m a Computer Science Major so math is big requirement and I’d consider myself decent at math. Although math is greatly emphasized in college honestly, you’re not going to be doing differential calculus in your day to day job and generally, Cybersecurity degrees do not have heavy math requirements. The most math does is teach you critical analytical skills.
@@DayCyberwox My University requires College Algebra(which is basic), Trig(not too crazy), but pre-calc, clac, and discrete competitive mathematics(whatever that is).
@@josuefrancois24 I'm assuming that the discrete class is just discrete math as I know it. It's just proofs, which you might do in Trig. It's not super difficult, you just need to be good at simplifying expressions and changing expressions to how you want them, and using rules and definitions as needed. Cal 1 and Precal can both just be learned from Professor Leonard.
I use a Host-Only virtual network in the hypervisor. The VMs are only able to communicate amongst each other and if anyone has to communicate externally, it'll use NAT and basically act as if it's my actual host. The NATted machine should be able to communicate outbound but not inbound.
I paused at the topology to ask why the host/VM isnt BEHIND the firewall/SIEM/etc. shouldnt you have the host behind all of these devices, especially the IPS? back to the video :D
Thanks for watching that far Robert😅. The firewall was gonna be virtualized so that’s why it looks like it’s not behind but it’s pretty much behind. I’m also working on redesigning the topology because, I’ve learned a lot more in the last couple of months and I need to redo it lol😅
@@DayCyberwox haha I understand, im learning everything myself. just about to put a homelab virtualization setup together with the same premise as yours. so ill definitely be looking out for that update!!
Hey Joseph! I'm working on redesigning the topology but I'll do a video of the update soon and make the project doc available to you and everyone else.
Hey, I don’t have any qualifications or experience in cyber security but I am interested in become a cyber security analyst/engineer etc. Have you got any recommendations on how to start or how to get into it?
Hey Alex! I’d recommend going through a really basic Cybersecurity course (check out Cisco’s Cybersecurity fundamentals course) and really understanding the fundamentals of IT, networking and security. Then from there on you can start messing around on sites like TryHackMe or HackTheBox. Once you’ve gotten those down and you’re getting a feel of how things work, I’d recommend studying for the CompTIA A+ & Network+ (you don’t necessarily have to take the exams). After that go ahead to the Security+ By the time you’re at this point(3-8months) you should be set on the fundamentals and be ready to start looking at entry level positions/internships. I hope that answered your question.
Hey Dax! Currently in the military with over three years left and would like to get into to cyber security, Ihave my A+ and am studying for network +. Can you please give a me decent roadmap of what I can do in three years to burst into the field? Thank you!
Hey! Congrats on the A+ and smart decision getting on the network+x. After the Network+, I recommend the Security+ as well. Be sure to check out my certifications playlist for info on al of that. While you’re studying for these certs, it’s very important to practice what you’re learning. For the network+ be sure to download wireshark and analyze traffic flowing in your home network. Download Cisco packet tracer and mess around with different lab setups just to get the experience of how routing works and also understand how the protocols are used in communication. Design a certification roadmap that best fits your needs, but choose relevant certifications that will actuallly get your foot in the door for jobs you desire. Then start messing around in TryHackMe and HackTheBox. TryHackMe has really nice labs on basic Cybersecurity things so check out the rooms that interest you either in the blue team side or red team side. RangeForce has some really good blueteam lab as well so check them out (ps: check one of my most recent videos and see how the labs look like). I highly recommend them! Also build Homelab with different configurations, mess around with different tools and keep labbing! Build your network! Get a LinkedIn profile and start connecting and interacting with the Cybersecurity community. You can also use Twitter and Instagram for that as welll. You can also join my discord server (link in describing ). Come meet some amazing Cybersecurity students and professionals, network, collaborate and ask as many questions as you want. I hope that helped answer your question. All the best!

Can I make a cybersecurity lab strictly in a Virtual machine to simulate practical hands on experience???
Yes! Absolutely. That’s the whole purpose of this project.
Is it possible to use virtualbox instead of vmware for this project ?
Yup it is

Nope
