He got hurt in “rumble in the Bronx” While shooting “Thunderbolt” in 1996, he had to rely upon a stunt double as he was recovering from that ankle injury Chin Ka Lok was his stunt double for “Thunderbolt”
One of my favorite movies!! I remember watching it all the time on VHS when i was 8 and we first moved to America! Rumble in the Bronx and Who am I! Little know fact, the main thug, Tony (guy in the green dirt bike), died shortly after this movie on the set of another movie. May he rest in piece. Thanks for being of one of my favorite movies! Gave my childhood many nights of intense movie watching!
My introduction to Jackie Chan! Once I realized he actually put his body on the line for movies like this he had my respect! That jump at the end was the absolute icing on the cake for this scene!
Grandma Lidia I was 8 when I first saw this movie. One year earlier I was introduced to Bruce Lee. My love for kung fu movies was at an all time high at this point in my life.
The jump he did was performed in blood alley vancouver went there today to look at it, its a huge distance between the buildings pretty crazy that he did that
My mom had a similar, but different incident. She grew up in Kelowna and riding her bike was one of her joys. One day, she was alone on Knox mountain and these two guys thought about having some fun with her while they were driving in their car. She put the "pedal to the metal." They followed her on the wider trails. Then she saw a jump straight ahead. Before making the jump, she backtracked some and then pedaled like her life depended on it. She did the jump and landed on the other side with both tires underneath her. The two guys stopped their car at the jump and felt cheated. The last thing my mom did was "flip the bird" to those jerks and left them in the dust.
That jump at 4:31 Mad respect. It's better than what they did with Bourne Ultimatum when you consider the stuntman. Wish the editors didn't cut the intial push up from the roof on 2nd angle viewing though. It takes something away from Jackie's heroics.. I'm so used to seeing his asian type of edits. lol Screw the time continuity , that jump is worth watching twice!
That asshole at 3:07 deserved to have that truck of his "demolished" by being thrown off the bulding. He saw that keung (jackie) was in trouble and trying to hide from those gang members and he kicks him out of his his truck anyway. also wierd that by the end of the movie, jackie became "friends" with those gang members after they clearly tried to kill him.
Yōjinbō 用心棒 well I never watched this movie but my dad did. He said the gang got beat up by the golfer. Weird. That Leader (I don't know his name I'm sorry) asks Jackie (the mains characters name, sorry I forgot again XD) for help. Anyways yes the guy really did deserve it.
There's a scene cut which is the original HK version which explains why the gang chase Jackie again. The gang come back to the supermarket, threaten Elaine for protection money, slap her and then Keung calls the cops making them all runaway. There's also scenes of Elaine having feelings for Keung but they cut all her scenes out. Jackie also sings the theme song on Cantonese and mandarin.
No. He didn't do the jump because he had broke his ankle on another scene (that appears later on the movie). Its really sad the bloopers later on make a hard effort to convince you it was really him jumping, but ends up giving even more evidence it wasn't him. If you look how the scene is edited, it's very clear it's not him doing the jump. The way Chinese directors shoot this kind of scene, you would see at least one take where you'd be able to clearly see his face at least *mid jump* and landing, if not for the whole jump.
I recently read an old Variety review of this movie, which complained it wasn't that good (not like Drunken Master II) cuz it tried to replace fighting with a few stunts. OMG did they not watch the same movie as me? This like this were NOT just "stunts". They are breathtaking film moments
Some people also got turned off with it because it didn't really have a plot. It was basically just Chan fighting off a street gang and then a crime syndicate in New York. We don't watch Jackie Chan movies for the great story telling and Oscar winning acting though (although Chan actually isn't really a bad actor) we want to see him beat people up in hilarious fashion and do amazing stunts. That's why people love his movies. He was different from a lot of the other action stars.
i havent watched this movie for a couple decades. but now when i see this scene, and the mountains behind him with the massive body of water, im thinking, oh yea totally thats just central park! lollllllllllll how did i ever miss that. i read a comment this scene was filmed in vancouver. which makes sense seeing those mountains. hahaha wow,
3:27........Supposed to be the Bronx and yet their are mountains in the background. I read up that they actually shot this in Vancouver, hence the mountains.
A lot of films plots are set in one city, but they use another to do the shoots. I'm guessing for better space, scenery to help make it seem so and also permits to what is available or not.
They do it because its cheaper to film in Canada. Couple of Canadian cities can double as American ones tpo. Toronto doubles as NY. Calgary can double as America's west and Vancouver is used for the central cities. I think they use Montreal for Chicago too because of all the old brick buildings, but im not sure about that one.
In I am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action, Jackie suggested that the production team should just focus on the action without worrying too much about the scenery.
The truck driver dude is dressed exactly like Homer Simpson in the episode where he gains 100 pounds to avoid going into work lmfaoooo wtf same exact outfit
That jump at the end is much better than the matrix.
Xxw
Lol no special effects
That's impossible
Every single step that Jackie takes in his movies is iconic, Rumble in Bronx is just one in the long of his legendary movies
One if his most serious movies, I remember seeing this when I was a kid, badass

That whole bit with the guy, kissing his ass, and Jackie smacking the ass with the car antenna was hilarious, hahahahaha
Trucker: clearly sees a bunch of dangerous thugs searching for some guy that's hiding.
Also trucker: "why you hiding in my truck???"
... and his truck was destroyed for it too.
Legend has it, that death gave up trying to kill jackie.
good guy / gal death :)

pretty amazing how he throws his body one way and the rest follows like when he jumps over something feet first his upper body follows.
Thanks for that information. I've just moved here and I was wondering where he did that jump.
It's not Jackie Chan jumping.
@@rafaellima83 Prove it.

The most realistic thing about Jackie Chan action movie is : he can feel pain and afraid, even he is the actual Hero.
They were just straight up trying to murder him throwing him off
They wanted revenge from him beating them up
I believe Jackie actually broke his ankle on that long balcony jump at the end. That is what I heard anyway.
