Nice to see you in my family's home country. I was born in Spain but my whole family is from Ecuador and it fills me with pride that you not only appreciate our beautiful landscapes but also our delicious food. It brings back memories of when I used to visit my family or when I lived in Quito for 2 years. Thank you Nico for continuing to contribute the best of our country. Greetings from an Ecuadorian born in Spain, a hug 🤗❤

@@yemiokuwa650 Thanks for responding. You have inspired to me capture and make more food content. Yes, Ecuadorian food isn't very spicy, but the have a hot sauce called "aji" that you can ask for with your food. The spice levels vary though. But we cook a lot at home too so we make our homemade foods spicy enough for our taste buds. Stay tuned for more.

    So, we finally did it.
We went back to your first video, and enjoyed the views of Vilcabama.
In particular, your walking pace makes it easier to feel like we're there.
Do you know the names of any of the colorful flowers
seen at the place you stayed at? I saw "Vilcagarden" in the video.
Was this just a play on words, or was this the name of the place where you stayed?
Thanks for letting us know. We're like # 679 for your video.

    Questions:
Are you still there in vilcabamba?
Do they have salmon n tuna at that fish stand/market?
How do you like the quality of their meats, assuming you are not vegetarian?
Rentals still affordable for working folks like yourselves?

    • @TheXplorasDiary
      @TheXplorasDiary  2 месяца назад +2

      Hi,
      1. No, we're no longer in Vilcabamba
      2. Yes, you can purchase tuna at the market. A seafood brand in Loja used to deliver salmon to the stores in Vilcabamba, so I always purchased my Salmon in Vilcabamba.
      3. Coming from the US, the quality of meats we get here are far more superior than what we used to get in the US. More on the natural side, less chemicalized.
      4. Yes, we find the rentals to be more affordable than what we used to pay in the US. However, the issue of rent is tricky. Naturally, the influx of expats/ immigrants have driven rental prices up.
From what I've heard, 10 years ago, you could rent a decent house for $250 but maybe now it may cost you about $400 - $600. Really, it all depends of the kind and quality of rental you want to have. A rustic local style housing will be cheaper than a westernized standardized apartment.
      Hope this is helpful.

When it comes to finding accommodation it's best to start with airbnbs, and then facebook groups where people list properties available for rent, as well as local real estate companies that have connections to landlords looking to rent their homes. Word of mouth and asking around is also a good way.

I live in the USA and my family in ecuador says that crime is in between members of rival gangs, but most of Ecuadorians are tire of what is going on, hopefully they choose wisely next time; I’m keeping my mind positive because I really want to go back.

    • @TheXplorasDiary

Most of the crime I hear about especially on the coast is gang and drug related. The gangs waring over the control of the ports and territories for drug trade. To be honest, I haven't felt unsafe, but I also live in the mountains where that type of crime is relatively uncommon compared to the coast. Hope this helps.

Thanks for watching and commenting, Ecuador Expat. We've been living in Vilcabamba for over 2 years now, and I agree that there's not much to do here. It can definitely get boring really fast. For that reason, I prefer Cuenca as well, because it's certainly more vibrant (but I'm not too fond of the weather there).
In terms of crime, every now and then there are stories of break ins and etc. But I wouldn't describe the crime as rampant, as the community has also stepped up and is always collaborating with the police to keep the town as safe a possible. But yea, lots of gringos here!! lol
