Trump's VP Contender Gives Twisted Argument To END This Divorce Law

  • One of Donald Trump's top vice presidential contenders, Ben Carson, flies off the handle with terrifying argument to end these critical divorce laws. John Iadarola and Sharon Reed break it down on The Damage Report.
    Read more here:
Ben Carson calls for making divorce harder - www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024...
"Ben Carson, who is often named as a potential running mate for Donald Trump, is out with a new book in which he calls for an end to no-fault divorce laws in the U.S.
“For the sake of families, we should enact legislation to remove or radically reduce incidences of no-fault divorce,” Carson writes in “The Perilous Fight,” released Tuesday.
“The reason this matters is that no-fault divorce legally allows marriages to end much more quickly than in previous decades. When there are relatively few legal or financial consequences connected with divorce, it’s natural for people to gravitate toward that option when their marriage hits a rough patch,” he adds. “What those people often don’t consider, however, is the harm - both present and future - inflicted on their children once a divorce is finalized.”"

Speaking as a divorce lawyer, bad idea. When a couple wants to end their marriage making it harder just drags out a situation that people need to get it behind them.

If you make divorce harder by getting rid of “no fault” divorce, you will make a divorce more expensive!!!!!!!! The only people who will benefit from making divorce harder is lawyers!!!!!!!

I'm going through a divorce right now. And it sucks a lot. And I would rather not be getting divorced. And we are getting a no fault divorce. But the real reason is that my wife has narcissistic personality disorder and I suffered terrible narcissistic abuse. So if the government made me have to prove divorce, it just doesn't make any sense to have to prove divorce. Cause even if we had to stay together, she would still be a narcissus.

Exactly what right does the government have to stop people from getting divorced?? Do people have to get permission from the government to get married? Do companies have to get the governments permission to break contracts? With people living longer, women no longer dying in childbirth it is onky logical that people should be allowed to divorce. Forcing people to stay together insane!

Let's not pretend this is about anything other than another avenue to control women. No-fault divorce allows women to escape bad marriages without having to prove abuse or other issues. Sure, that's not always the case, but wtf does it matter if there are more divorces? Forcing people to remain in unhappy marriages is not a solution to anything.

People or men have death wishes. Some women will get out of a bad marriage anyway they can. This is a way for both parties to walk away with respect even if one of them cheated, or was abuses to the other party. Sometimes you just need to get out. People grow apart and it's not fair to suffer the rest of your life.

There was a TV movie in the 1970s called "The Burning Bed". It was the story of a woman who was trapped in an abusive marriage because of fault divorce laws. She ends up tying her husband to the bed soaking it with gasoline and setting it on fire. This could become a reality for some women if we do away with no-fault divorce.

Government needs to get out of divorce period. Domestic abuse: get involved. Divorce: stay the hell out of it. So many people cannot get divorced because they cannot afford it because of stupid laws. The laws that enable abusers to continue abuse through and for an indefinite amount of time after divorce is where, to your point, the “party of small government” actually wants to control literally every personal decision a person can make in their own life and relationship.

So unless you live under a rock or reside in some conservative news fueled incel fever dream where men are always being unfairly victimized by women, then you would know that by now.
