    I used the Nicot system twice last season an got around 50% take. I got lucky with using queens willing to lay to the point that after a little over 1 day I gad enough eggs that I was able to remove the queen an leave it until day 4. I’m going to try it again this year we’ll see how it goes. I really appreciate your video that includes the “worts”. That’s where insightful instructions comes from. Thank you!

    Thanks for the informative information in this system. I agree with you that you do not have as much control an you can not wait an wait for her to give you enough eggs of the same time period . Just how much or do you ever use a starter finisher . Also do you put your cells in your new colony or do you hatch out your queens. Thanks

    Feel like I might have made an error on my first attempt. My queen laid the entire 100 in 24 hrs, so I pulled just the eggs before they were fed. Haven't gotten clarity if they are supposed to be fed first or if an freshly laid egg is fine. I'll know in several days..

    • @buttsbeesllc4063
      @buttsbeesllc4063  5 месяцев назад

      You will learn something !! You may get a queen or 2. Upside is You have a queen that lays like champ in the box !!💥 If I read this right, you put the cups with just eggs in the builder ? If they are absolutely queenless they may feed them and do fine! It will add 2 to 3 days on to the schedule though. So you may have capped cells in 6 to 7 days instead of 4 because they had to hatch ! You can carefully pull the frame in 5 days to see if they are feeding or if they got eaten back. Good luck 🍀🍀🐝🐝
      PS your bees in your avatar are adorable 😍

    Queen should bee in cage no more than 24h. If you keep queen 4 days,she lay eggs and bees clean it. After adding cells to builder you chek acceptance rate after 3 hours and add new larve wher is missing.put honey all over Nicot before polishing.

    I get a good take grafting but its an acquired skill to pick up the larvae w/o scraping it on the cell. I tried different graft tools but the Chinese seems to work best for me. I made some nice queens a few weeks ago, waiting on eggs.

    If a queen can handle the nicot, can the nicot cartridge be used 2 or 3 times in a season, or is it only once per season per queen?

    As a first year beekeeper - I’ve had a bad year at buying queens and there absconding because of wasps and weak hives am guessing - but on Tuesday i tried out Nicot system,placed a Queen in the Nicot frame and today day 3 or maybe some may say day 2 and half far too early because she laid ,but as laid in 109 cells some 3 eggs ,and some just one - but no royal jelly no pupa and no larva stage but I just can’t see anything while wearing the bee suit - I purchased a mini magnifier 60x beautiful little gadget but major mistakes today as a newbie I forgot to take it with me and the frames ,yellow cups part of the Nicot system - so basically I may a major boo boo and could do nothing about it as my bee yard is 1 hours drive - have you any suggestions for me ?? Btw am heading into autumn in the UK ,so to get the queens mated might of been an ask

    • @buttsbeesllc4063
      @buttsbeesllc4063  Год назад +1

      We all make mistakes! Even now years in😬 Get a checklist of things you need to bring, a notebook with dates because of scheduling queens , and maybe give yourself a break😉
      Maybe if you are doing queens leave a small kit at the apiary if possible since you are so far.
      If I got you right , the Q laid in 109 cell. WOW! I think, if you had the right equipment with you , I would have used what she gave you. Sometimes holding the cage/Nicot up to the sun you can see better the eggs/larva. I can't see and need glasses , or you could go with out the veil?
      I think you are right and your season is at a close, drones need to be plentiful for a good mating. Learn from this and make a good plan for Spring or next summer!

    Yeah, Nicot always has those timing problems.. good for grafting. The Jenter cage has a bit different made cells and queens like it much better. Never had a problem with that one.. queen does it over night and you can let her out in the morning. With Nicot l had them moving eggs from the cage and put in the new comb on the outside one time. Strange.

      @@buttsbeesllc4063 l have an old 80 cells one. Never had problems with it. I used it to try with eggs and very young larvas. The difference between them is that Jenter has wax in the cells and the transfer has 1 more step. Some queen breeders here use 4-5 of them to produce all their queens.. but grafting isn't worse. It's just preferences

  • @ME_MeAndMyBees
    @ME_MeAndMyBees Год назад +1

    I use the 'Natural' Method. Aka : Let the Bees make the Queens !
    Tip :
    Choose Best Hive Queen
    and take a Frame of Brood in ALL Stages.
    Including Eggs ! BRUSH all Bees off Carefully. Don't shake them off as (Shaken Eggs are only good for Omelettes) not Queen Rearing. 🤭
    Get your Hive tool and mash a under Dent just under say Eg x6 equally spaced apart Eggs in a linear Line. Can do a higher Row and a Lower Row but do have enough Space above, between and below so QCs can be hanging, harvested easily. [Dent more than the Queens you want !] So you can choose the best. Offer up Spare to Bee Pals or your Bee Club !
    *This Frame must be added to a QUEENLESS
    Colony. Or into a high up Box of Bees, above a Queen Excluder. Bees around these Eggs must 'feel' Queenless to make QC's ! * Or at least Bees are to far away to pass up that lower Deep Box Queen"s Pheromone to those nurturing Nurse Queen Bees building those Queen Cells for you. 😉
    If your using say a Frame off a Langstroth, dent Comb, 2" Space across right, dent another, 2" Space across etc.
    Why Dent you ask ? 👀
    Well, by doing this under dent : 1) that Egg will be Drawn Down into a Queen Cell "with Plenty of Empty Area " about it, underneath it for that "Peanut: QC" to be made. (Its not placed or stuck tight to Wax or Frame, often so when Bees decide to make their own Swarm Cells !)
    2) Once Capped ( say
    x 12th Day from Egg)
    as you dented plenty of space : You can easily Cut Out "Harvest" those QC's : I prefer to use Scissors over a Hive Tool.
    Cut so the Cell has a chunk of Comb it hangs from too. 3) That way you can place these QC's into a Roller Cage (Open Lid at Top : lower that QC into it, use that wedge of attached Comb (trim as required.) So that Cell is held firmly in that Cage. Pressing down the Lid onto that Wax Wedge also holds those QC's in place. Add a bit of Damp Cardboard into the open bottom end to 'Plug' them Closed.
    (Later you can wiggle this a little loose so Virgin Queen can exit into her own Queenless Hive !)
    4) Bank all these Cages meantime in a eg ideally x3 Frame Nuc with Filler Board (add another x2 Frames as they Grow ! Compact is cosy. Gaps are 'drafty'.
    Make Nuc up with x3 of Fully Capped Brood / or all Larva Stages only ! Or NO Eggs : or Bees will use these to make their own random QCs !
    You want those "Chosen Eggs to be your Queens" not a Frame Egg to be 'any kinda Queen' !?!.
    Feed this Nuc plenty of 1:1 Syrup to allow Nurse bees do what they do best : Nurse New Queens.
    After say a Week, those QCs will of Hatched their Virgin Queens within those Secure Cages !
    Make up Mini Mating Nucs : add x1 Virgin Queen in her Cage. She should be accepted Phremone wise, the Bees will Chew and loosen that Cardboard, until she can crawl out.
    [Do say have a little peek at that Cage a few Days after install to see if she got out OK. If shes still in their, carefully remove that Card, put your Thumb over that 'Open' end and do a Controlled release so VQ crawls from that Roller Cage straight down into a Gap between Frames. NOT so she flies off off away from the Hive !?! Virgin Queens are very flighty and fast movers !
    Hope this helps. 😎
    🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
    Happy Beekeeping 2023
    🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
    I did this recently here in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 : in late May and or early June.
    Late Spring is best time to make great Queens
    re all that Pollen, Nectar and Hive Resources around.
    Can do for June July, early August too. Any later its less favourable as less Drones are around ! You want new Queens to build up a good Colony before Autumn sets in. 😉

      WOW, you do not listen before commenting. I said here the goal is 75% but 50 isn't bad. 50% is great over 0% when you do not try. 50% is fabulous over 0% , 10 or 30 % . The point is to try and learn but have a positive mindset.

      Nice to play when you have a few hives and you get 30% or 50%.
      But I have about 100 hives and I can't play with 5 queens every week.
      I work according to the known method grafting and get 90%. I have a problem with my eyes so I tried the Niko system a few times and my result is out of 20 I got 14,12 it's not good for me so I check what others or what my mistakes is?. I need 90%.

      @shimspot5213 This video was for beginners, I run 200 hives and sell queens. 75% in the industry is fine. Nicot is not a great way, but for anyone starting out, it gets them into the schedule of queen rearing. MOST beginners would be happy to get any result. I graft by hand and get consistent results of 75 or higher.
