I put a small strip 1" wide of foundation at the top of a frame which stops them missing out a frame when drawing out new comb.

They are called Intrances because they are an entrance on the inside, in the bee space and the bees can move upwards or downwards from them. We take a super off the top off the brood with clean wax with stores before going into the winter and put it below the brood box to keep the brood entrances in the brood in the middle. and simply call it a basement box. Its not really an invention because it is simply replicating a hollow tree where bees came from and enter through a rotted out brance hole. Not an entrance at the bottom or top and definitely no mesh floor.

Science based curve ball for you! If you regulars expose bees to bananas, will bees get and stay agressive or will they be subjected to the effect of "the boy who cried wolf" and be desensitized to their attect pheromone? I see you likely addressed this with the 20 additional coumpounds found in attack pheromone. Very cool i didnt know that! I have been near the bees with coffee, various alcoholic beverages, various smokes, before or after laborous work... if they are fiesty its generally due to a dearth or opperator error from what i have seen

I still go through rough patches after about 5 years. I hit the trough of the Dunning-Kruger graph this year actually. The “valley of despair” as they say. @@buttsbeesllc4063 maybe it’s necessary although I know that’s a point of contention. It’s necessary for me, unfortunately! One problem is that the United States and world in general is HUGE. So you have to figure out a lot on your own since going online will be a mixed bag of many different geographical areas and flora. For instance, most youtube beekeepers rarely bring up that fact and just preach their gospel. It’s been trial and error for me. Even 20 miles west is a different beast for raising bees. The geography is completely different, and everything is rocky with way less plants and less rain! And it’s a couple degrees cooler, which could mean a week or two difference in blooming. Which if you manage monthly can mean you lost a month if you didn’t feed on the west side because the east side is just fine lol

Nobody can draw comb like swarms with a flow. If they're big l like to put them in a deep with one empty in the middle and 9 wax sheets... Did you notice that they like to swarm between rains if the sun comes out for a couple of hours. Sometimes if I find them starting swarm cells I put 2 deep boxes (20 frames to draw) on the seme spot of the old hive, shake all the bees in it.. and put their brood and frames on the next hive or the starter that time of year (many options)... they can draw 20 wax sheets in a couple of days when they are like that. And for them swarming is done for the year. They swarmed but didn't notice its the same spot 😅. After that they work like crazy. It's a method used here by older beekeepers who have too many hives.. after 3-4 days they put back the old boxes with the old brood. It's a good method for people who need frames. Instead of splitting do the shook swarm .☮🤟✌

YES!! Between rains , how funny it is not region specific ! And yes I have done a shook swarm for an ailing hive but not for swarming. For some reason though it is familiar to me....dejavu? Or just getting old enough to think I know everything ! 😘⚘️✌️

@@buttsbeesllc4063 yap, they seem to do it everywhere.. and than end up drawing on a branch and me not noticing they already have 5 combs and brood trying to shook them in a box. Without any protection.. they gave me the lesson for free 🥵🤣. Funny thing, they were on an olive branch where l pass every day and I never noticed them.. head high.. could have bumped them with my shoulder many times. Just luck. Here we have an 80 years old beekeeper who does shook hives like that on 300 alone. Makes honey and sells hives in 10 frame equipment.. keeps saying he can't do it, but next year he does it again.. has too many boxes from a lifetime of beekeeping to sell. ☮
