I was in a band with singer Larry Jacobs and trumpet player Charles Williams in San Francisco ( The Bayview ) in 1971 That same great voice in a garage band. Larry is still around and singing, I hope to join him in Vegas soon.
This jam always fascinated me. Because it had a disco flavor and since they were from the East Coast that made sense. But then some of production sounded like California Soul and being that Verdine White produced it I guess that would make sense. Very interesting jam🎼
JJ This album was produced by Maurice and Verdine White from E,W&F. You know the production is insane.. They had two hits from this LP... They were under Maurice's production company "Kalimba" which was under Columbia Records....... The other hit ballad is called "Elusive Lady" The bombbbbbbb. That's one of my requests I sent with this one also.......
I truly appreciate you playing our music!! This was an honor to watch and listen to!!! Major shout out to my brother... Original lead singer Larry Jacobs!!!
So glad someone in this younger generation found and acknowledged Come go with me-The Pockets. In the midst of uncertainty and doubt, just play this song. Everything will be alright...
HELL YEAH.....when i heard this song on the intro yesterday i couldn't wait for your reaction....but before i go on let me school you a bit....EVERY era of black music is the golden age because every era we have been the trend setters and everyone copied But now on to your reaction....the Pockets are only one of MANY artists that were played only or mainly on black radio and never crossed over....i mean there are endless CLASSICS of black music that never crossed over....back then black radio would play album tracks of artists even if they never became singles.....some of the best known songs by black artists never crossed over to white radio.....one thing you are a little wrong about....you mentioned how this great song never made it far up the charts so it must have been greater sounding music on charts that charted higher.....NOPE.....not always the case white radio at that time had some of the blandest music you could find...of course you had some great white artist and also very great black artists that managed to crossover....wasnt easy back in the day but black artists as always would create some new sound that others copied.....great song and great reaction
Larry Jacobs is from San Francisco and we used to record on a reel to reel tape back in the day...and that was way before his days with the pockets...we were in high school.
