Hey everyone, I am so glad you are enjoying this video and I plan to do more like this in the future! keep an eye out for a RUclips post of when the next round of art submissions will be accepted! I absolutely love helping you guys out with your watercolour skills in anyway way I can! Thank you all so much for the love
Hi Emma ... ironically, this is what you’ve been teaching us along BUT when I watched the comparisons, it hit home even more! Beginners always seem to struggle with the same general things like evenly spacing things and making things in patterns. We need to trick our art brain to work around this. Fantastic idea. You are a wonderful teacher and we really appreciate you.
An excellent and authentic lesson! I love that you care about us fledglings as we embark into watercolors at an early stage. You are a beautiful, talented teacher. Thank you for caring about others and offering this lesson. 🥰
This video was really helpful! Loved how you walked through all the submitted artwork and showed how to make the necessary corrections. I would love to see more videos like this. You are a great teacher, explaining everything so well.
Emma this sort of 'watercolour clinic' is SO valuable. Most watercolour youtubers don't have that value-add. I am part of a patreon for another watercolour artist and there is nothing this personal and useful on there. Definitely one of your USPs!
I am loving your lessons. You can teach an old dog new tricks. I am 69 and just beginning watercolors. I painted with oils for years but I am so excited about this new form. You have been so helpful and you have brought great joy into my life. Thank you. I may even join Instagram just to know more. Now back to what you are teaching. Keep up the great inspirational work.
Please more of this type, fast strokes and hopefully learning! The faster the looser I’m learning! I watch you and I think I am learning! Thanks and you are a wonderful teacher!🙋♀️🌈Karen Dirmish
Emma, I can see that teaching is definitely your thing. You have explained all the problems and how to correct them so well. I’ve learnt a lot from this video even though I have been painting for some time now. You never stop learning! Thanks for a great video.
I loved example #2, not as a bouquet, but as an example of an illustrative style. Viewing her painting from that point of view, I think it is gorgeous. Perhaps that is the style that suits her the most.
Wow! Very useful! A heartfelt thank you to all the artists who submitted their work. Emma you are so generous with your advice. Thank you for investing such effort.
That tutorial was sooooo informative and so needed for me. I was not getting the layering and shading concepts. I learned to go from light to dark! This adds the definition and contrast that I was looking for in my work. Thank you EmJ !!! Your teachings are so well worked through and the pieces that your other followers sent in were representative of my exact struggles with Water Color Painting right now!!! Thanks, you helped me out a great deal.
You have definitely hit on a great way to teach! When I watch you, I feel like it's just' magic' and I can't see what I'm doing wrong.... but when I see specifically how others struggle, it reall starts to feel 'real'.
YES this is TREMENDOUSLY helpful!! Like you said there's no such thing as a bad painting, yet part of the reason I subscribe to your channel is because I love your style, and getting specific about how YOU achieve the effects in YOUR artwork is so much more useful because it's much less generic and is immediately applicable
I loved this lesson! I am was not aware of your request. I usually watch you on RUclips first thing in the morning. When I turned it on this morning and I was so happy to see your subjects. I struggle with leaf leaf placement and water control. I am very much a beginner but truly have learned so much from your videos. I intend to try practicing using your lessons. Thank for teaching me I can draw and paint a little for fun and relaxation.❤️
Wow! Thank you so much for doing this video. Your comparisons really helped me see the difference and understand how I could make my paintings look better. This is truly the most helpful video on watercolor painting that I've ever seen and I'm so grateful! I hope you continue to do this type of video at least once in a while. 🙏 You are a wonderful teacher. Thanks again ❤
Thank you Emma. Loved this video! It was very very informative. It helps a lot to see this kind of information. Would love to see more of these. All the artists works were great. Thank you to them as well. Thank you again ! 😊
Definitely would like to see of this type of video - it's always a great help when an advanced artist deals with the practical problems that beginners often face in applying (or even understanding) basic techniques.
Wow! I get answers to so many of doubts. I am a beginner and new subscriber to your channel and handle. Would love to see more such videos. Thank you Emma for making us better. ❤️
I agree with an earlier comment, in that even though you already address these issues as you create during your video, this format really does provide a different perspective that drives home how the technique you show us addresses these common issues. Please do more!!
Yes yes please!!! More! I learned so much by seeing exactly what mine usually looks like and then the RIGHT way to do it. I absolutely LOVED the daisy!
I will never get tired of watching you paint loose roses in real time!! Great video, Emma. Even though I know I’ve heard you give these pointers before - I feel like a nuance of understanding improves each time. Thank you for your patience 🙏💗💗💗 Oh and I could not hear the tractors at all!!
You have an amazing ability to zero in on what is keeping an artist from achieving their goals. I can see the problems, but until you point it out, I can't see how to fix it. It's a little like magic! Very helpful video. I look forward to more like this.
I love your videos. They are always so clear and helpful. But this one was even more so. As other people said, I think the comparisons really helped illustrate what you were explaining. Thank you!!!
Yes, so helpful..some of the same issues that I struggle with. I agree that you have told us many of these tips before, but it really helps to have examples. I would love another one of these and the first thing I would submit is the issue of pooling when I add a darker value for texture on a leaf. Thank you, thank you for your patience with us newbies!
That was really interesting to watch, Emma. I have a similar problem to the first artist, I space my flowers too much and your video helped me think of how I might do things differently. Thank you!
Funny thing for me is, I KNOW all these concepts. I studied fine art in high school and college, and am trying to get back into it 20 years later. I never really gravitated toward watercolor back then (I was a pen & ink, pastel type of artist). I recently just took an 8-week watercolor course at a local art gallery. Even though I KNOW these concepts, applying them is easier said than done. And not getting frustrated when you make mistakes over and over!!! Wasting paper and supplies :) I appreciate the time you took in this video. It was interesting to include your Instagram follower's submissions. I just went and followed you on Instagram myself. Looking forward to more videos as I keep on going (frustratingly) with my watercolor. Thanks!!!
This was one of your best video ideas 💕💕love this. Like others have said - you point a lot of these things in your video tutorials but seeing the difference and pointing it out in examples really is super helpful!! Thank you to those who submitted work... hopefully I’ll catch the next call for submissions. 🤗
Really sweet of you to do this type of video...first time I ever saw this on youtube....and extremely helpful...We can tell you were a teacher of 'beginners" once upon a time. Thanks for all you do...I have no cell, nor instagram...but this is an awesome teaching idea...kudos to you!...You have just helped a TON of beginner watercolour enthusiasts.!!!!
Love it! I learned something with each painting you gave us tips on. My painting was the first one and it is so exciting having you use our paintings and give us tips.
I really enjoyed this! It was so very helpful with a lot of tips for me as I struggle with many of the same issues. I would love to see more of these. Thanks so much!
Thank you Emma! This is so helpful. Please, yes, do more of these. We get ourselves into these situations and it's so helpful to know how to correct them and, better yet, to avoid them.
Thanks so much for this invaluable video.. and for all the practical tips you gave. I absolutely love watching your flower tutorials.. they've re-kindled my interest in watercolor.
Oh my HECK I love love love this video! The examples look so much like my art. Thank you for helping me take it to the next level. I can't wait to re-try the same painting in the new technique.
Oh, THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. I started my watercolor journey last November. My projects all look like your before! Now I can't wait and try to apply some of your tips. I'll keep following and I guess I have to get an Instagram account.
Invaluable information Emma! Agree that there is no bad art, but not everyone agrees. Tough noogies , I say! Everyone has their own style. Can you please do more on composition. I’m struggling with this sometimes. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you!
That was super duper helpful and it’s ended up being one of the best lessons I’ve ever experienced! Please do more and more!!!!!!! I just found you and just know I’m gonna see a bit of improvement!

That was terrific, Emma. I particularly liked the way you showed making the picture pop with ‘depth’ darker colour.
