Happy New Year. I am kinda a fan of the Sega 3D controller. It looks like a beast, but is quite comfortable in my hands. I am a fan of the analog pad too instead of the sticks, but it is good to know that if my 20+ year old controller goes out, there is a good option.
I also watched the whole video to see how the analog compatibility would work for both the Megadrive and Saturn. Doesn't make any sense that this wasn't tested.
Retro Fighters should get to work on a modernized Sega arcade stick controller than can be compatible with the Genesis, the Sega CD, the 32X, the Saturn and the Dreamcast.
Late 2020 is what I'm hearing... So it's gonna be a while. I just hope it's good, that all 6 face buttons are the same size and height... oh, and that there are several color schemes to chose from. I have my hopes that it will be my goto controller for every system I can use it for.
Nice video, I was interested in knowing a few more things of possible. 1) Can you try Forgotten Worlds and Ms Pac Man on the Genesis? Those two games require a 3 button controller or use of the Mode button. 2) Can you try Nights into dreams for the Saturn as that garne used the analog controller. I would be really interested in seeing a joystick test program with the dpad movement and analog movement numbers showing the differences in the dpad and analog numbers. 3) Can you also try In The Hunt for saturn, that game does not like the analog controller at all and will only work with a standard dpad. I also was interested when you mentioned in the video in the manual that not all games are compatible with it, did they give a list or link to see them? I am a avid saturn and genesis gamer and think this controller looks interesting. I do have to wonder why they would put the analog on the bottom and not the dpad as analog is used so much less than the dpad. I would imagine my thumb would be hitting the analog all of the time. Thanks for making the video its appreciated.
I was thinking about that myself, Ms. Pacman, Forgotten Worlds and Golden Axe 2 all need to be in 3 button mode to work correctly and I'm curious to know if these controllers will actually play with these games correctly and any other game that has to be in 3 button mode.
Does this controller work on Commodore 64 and do all Master System games work properly? The original MS controller works on C64 and MD/Genesis controllers work on the MS but have problems in certain games like one of the Alex Kidd games. Also there was something about MD controllers (especially 6 button one) causing or getting damaged if connected to a C64 because of different wiring (5V line).
It’s a shame that the analog stick only works as a d-pad on the Genesis. A handful of Genesis games support real analog control, but the only controller to offer analog input was the rare/weird XE-1AP
fr_schmidlin yep. This was what I purchased the device for and confirmed that it’s just sending digital data for all of the games that support analog. JP After Burner III actually wigs out. The company was kind enough to offer a refund.
Warning this is not a replacement for the Saturn Analogue controller. The analogue stick on this only mimics the 8 way control pad. If you wanted to use this for games like Nights into Dreams or Burning Rangers you will be dissapointed.
If possible can you test any games that specifically use the analogue from the original Saturn 3D pad, i.e. NiGHTS? I've heard that even in those games, the stick input is still digitised and produces d-pad output, so it lacks the fluidity of true analogue and doesn't give the same experience.
It's an arcade stick more than an analog stick, I have it, don't have a 3D Saturn controller, but I find it to work well with Nights Into Dreams and Sega Lord X has a review about it
I'm definitely looking forward to the Dreamcast controllers going on sale. I got a Dreamcast about a month ago, and the d-pad on the original controller is pretty atrocious. I also have the arcade stick, but I am more comfortable with a d-pad when it comes to fighting games.
@@darthwisner47 It's pretty good. I haven't had the chance to really sit down with it because of work, and the controller could use some improvements, but from what little I've been able to play, it's pretty fun. My brother had one when we were younger, and I had a blast with Sonic Adventure, Tony Hawk, and Crazy Taxi. Spent more time causing mayhem than playing the actual game in Crazy Taxi. lol
Kinda disappointed that the joystick is just the same function as the D-pad but on the bright side at least I can play Tomb Raider, Hexen, Virtual On, Blood Factory, Willy Wombat, Hercs Adventure and Die Hard Arcade with the joystick
$40 for another 3rd party wired controller. It's neat it works on both systems, but please give us more wireless options, especially at that price.. it's 2020! I'm definitely excited for the wireless Dreamcast controllers too.. I just hope they're done right, so our JumpPacks and accessories plugin correctly.
The USB one... Can't you use that with your Switch? Every other USB controller that has come out since the NS came out seems to be compatible, this might be? And if it isn't maybe there's a firmware upgrade? Just thinking. Happy New Year!
I've heard the control stick doesn't work in all 360 degrees like the official Saturn 3D pad, but rather only works in 8 directions as if it were a D-Pad. Can you confirm? If true, this is the biggest missed opportunity and would've made me buy the controller. Otherwise, I find this totally pointless in comparison to a standard Saturn pad.
I don't want a new controller for playing Street Fighter, I came here expecting you, to test if this is an affordable replacement for the Micomsoft Xe-1AP, you know, for those Megadrive and 32X games with analog support, games such as Space Harrier 32X, and the After Burners.
It's good to have a new option for the Saturn 3D pad, but man the RetroFighters controllers are ugly. I'd have to keep it in the shed whenever I have company over since I don't have a basement to lock it in. I'm happy with the Retrobit 2.4ghz ones so I'd only get one of these if I really needed a new 3D pad.
The analog stick seems kind of useless. It just mimics the dpad, and doesn't function as an actual analog stick for Saturn games that support the 3D Control Pad.
What's great about the controller is that you can use the analog for any Saturn game. That alone makes the controller worth it. Otherwise, you would only be able to use the frying pan and it's only compatible with certain games.
The original 3D Control Pad works with all games. There is a switch to toggle between dpad and analog stick. There is no toggle switch on this controller so the “analog” stick only mimics the dpad and doesn’t work in analog mode.
Wait, what?! Doesn't it work as a real analog controller (3D-Pad) for the Saturn too? But their website state that it does. Is it false advertisement then?

I would have helped if you had tried the 3D pad with a game that supported analog stick and triggers like Sega Touring Racing or Manx TT.

Appreciate, hope ya have a good new year as well!
happy new year in about 2 hours from now 😁🎉
HappyNew year to you as well! bout 9 more mins for me!
I got this specifically for my Saturn as the analogue is perfect. I think I prefer over my Saturn 3d v2 controller.
Should have tested it with NiGHTS and a racing game to see how well it works with the analog.
I also watched the whole video to see how the analog compatibility would work for both the Megadrive and Saturn. Doesn't make any sense that this wasn't tested.

I think people who want to take care of their controllers should open them up to clean the gunk out.
How the analogue stick works as an analogue controller? I saw some reviews saying it wasn't in fact analogue, but just a D-Pad in a stick format.
It's more of an arcade stick, it does actually work well with Nights Into Dreams, that's actually why I bought one.

Makes you wonder what these 3rd party companies would do if Sega and Nintendo start making retro controllers fulltime again?
Again? Other than Nintendo popping out game cube controller when did they make retro controllers? When they made them they weren't retro

Does anyone know if the mode button can be used as the coin button on batocera?
I still think they should add an extra trigger so it could be another N64 controller option
Does the USB version work on the nividia shield?
Any drivers on this controller for PC full support ??
Happy New Year 🎉🎈🎉
Thanks! Hope you have a good new year too!!!
what's going on with that Next Gen Dreamcast Controller ? was it delayed ?
How well does it work on saturn games that support the 3d pad
No turbo fire?
I mean essentially, the Saturn's controller is the same controller, just with l/r shoulder buttons
Great review! I have this controller and love using it so far. (^_^)
