low budget film, lowkey i feel in love with this film, just love how the director shows different perspective of what people are going through in this film and everyone has a different path
Well done to whoever made this film. I have worked in innercity schools within the midlands and I thought that this film shed light on a number of key issues that individuals within these communities face.... issues that often go misrepresented/ misunderstood and worse still ignored by mainstream society. Also I found the ending to be suited to the world which the film explores as lets face it, there is no simple answer to neatly resolve the issues highlighted here. To wrap things up in a two second ending that leaves everything perfect and order restored would not be true to that kind of life. A life where there is often little order and much time is spent trying to find stable footing on ground that is constantly shifting. Hopefully this kind of unresolved ending will make the viewing audience uncomfortable enough to think about these narratives and the people living them long after the film closes.... and maybe be moved to help and not condemn from some misguided belief that watching the news or depictions of the innercity on Eastenders gives them a stitch of understanding as to the difficult experience many have in modern day England. More films like this please!!
For 4 decades I’ve lived & worked in an affluent suburban & rural district where 80% of middle aged & old folk are totally dismissive of the daily challenges those living within large cities have to face. There’s still the odd casual racism thrown in for effect by many supposedly intelligent self employed men whom have ‘ done very well ‘ within the opportunity- fertile conditions of incoming new retirees with money to splash & swank around. Films like this make me wonder if the mean , smug or plain nasty bastards I’ve had to work alongside at times had been given another time & place to be educated, then find work , then maintain enough work to begin & succeed in their climb to bungalow expansion glory , would’ve happened quite as they planned or if they’d succeeded at all. I’m not bitter or envious of those types , just sickened by the casual hatred & ignorance when they have so much to be thankful for . 👍❤️
I can't believe as a born and bred Notts resident I've never even seen this until now! I appreciate the accuracy of how corrupt the feds are (in Nottingham especially). Maybe I enjoyed this more because it's such a meticulous depiction of Nottingham life and how working-class, black men are coerced into a life of crime through limited resources, in such a dystopian environment. The ending for me was one of the best parts as it clearly expresses this unrelenting social cycle! There is no catharsis and will be none until people view the world and its inhabitants with new eyes, (that includes the artists who glamorise the image of selling class As to the youths of today). Acting was decent, soundtrack was quality and the narrative was intricate enough to keep me hooked right to the credits! Nuff respect for everyone involved, thank you for giving Notts minority a voice!
The acting in this film is amazing...these guys deserve awards...so sad how underrated British actors like this are...they deserve to be stars!! this was insightful to watch and very moving.
Living in Nottingham myself, it's fantastic to see great films like these are being made, in the area in which I live! Portrays teenage life really well!
im a 46 year old woman and iv'e just watched this and its very real and true to life whats happening on todays streets well done the producers and actors in this film
the ending is actually quite solid ..kai escapes the shitty parents and life he was living with his lil brother, Luther's older brother returns to the life he once lived, regretted and paid for, to then pay for the consequences (getting nicked for fucking up the ops that fucked his lil bro up). you dont need to see the fight at the end.. thats not important ..its the fact that hes doing it all again. knowing that the hood life is whack and he needs to focus on his girl and future but the need to go get revenge is too strong. i love these films because the one theme that links them together is that vicious cycle of the ghetto where people want out but get too stuck in with crime and gangs to make an escape from the hood actually possible.
Exactly. People who think the ending is bad clearly don't understand that's the point. We all know what's gonna happen, and we know it's gonna happen all over again
This movie was very emotional for me, because it demonstrated how we are all the same. We are certainly the same image with a soul, suffering from the same desires and looking for the same supply of happiness. The world is symbolical in its beliefs in an education, but yet we all are experiencing the same failures, because of the same element of money. If only we would teach and learn the greatest value in humanity, and get back to the creativity of giving and faith building within ourselves, the world can end poverty, hate and racism. God has to be the center of our understanding, in guiding us daily; but if not, we will continue to fall to the evil substances and illusions of the universe. Overall the movie was very forthcoming, I hope the writers can do a part 2.
Half way into the film, randomly came across it from related videos. The writing is genuine and not overly done like alot of UK 'hood films', few gems in there as a great film should have, moving, relatable story and good actors. Enjoying this one
I was only going to watch a few minutes of this but ended up watching the whole thing. I really enjoyed it. The ending could of gone into a bit more detail but still it was great to watch!
Part 2 with a happy ending - Please. Very emotional. I know nothing about filming but that sure did not look like a No budget film. It looked like professional work to me. Well scripted -Talented quality filming - Great acting too. Keep up the great work all of you!!!!
It's good when film's don't tie up all loose ends - that ambiguity where you get to 'fill in the gaps' yourself works well sometimes. I think where this film fell short was leaving too many of them unresolved, or at least the one major one. I think if we got to see Malcolm and his boys play out their revenge then most people would have forgiven leaving Kye and his little bro on a bus to a better life and Luther in the hospital bed. Aside from that, really impressed and surprised by this film - decent acting all round and a good story line as well - 1m+ views on RUclips for a low budget film with no 'name' actors is testament to that...
not joking but the end of this film was actually good, why do movies have to answer all the questions, this film was based off true stories, and in these peoples lives they arent gunna have a set ending to their problems so I thought it was good, I enjoyed the film
i wasn't expecting much when i put this on but i have to say i enjoyed it, decent script well directed and edited. i just read the comment about it been done by a youth work org. if that's the case more power to you all. defo worthy off a follow up. good job
This is a brilliant film, I would say it was up there with kidulthood. Really shows what life is like in the UK for the majority. We don't need London, Nottingham holds its own.
I especially like the part with the social worker.. 'it doesn't meet the threshold' too true!! as if the abusive parents are going to be like 'yeah yeah we treat our kids like sh1t and beat them' shinning example of the under funded system and the people who get into the job for the paycheck and don't have any real aspirations to help change the lives of young people (not all social workers) which is really why they should be in the job in the first place
Luther lived, his brother started a family, Key gave Max a fresh start.. there's your happy ending. it must be, after I watched honeytrap and kidulthood :) love how kye is caring to his brother..
D MoniK It reflects the diverse ethnic and cultural makeup of London's population. Meaning African, Jamaican and other ethnic origins. A lot of the slang used in London were originated by African and Jamaican people, then overused by the younger generation until those words became popular. Notice how I mentioned African and Jamaican? Just like the people used in this movie? It isn't London primarily that uses these slang terms. London didn't create a lot of this slang. The black community did. It's universal to the culture and a lot of black people all over the country speak like this.
This is a great movie - amazing that it was made with little budget and inexperienced actors. Kudos to scriptwriters, directors, cinematographers, camerapeople, actors and crew. It is not a 'shock' and 'sensationalist' depiction of ganglife like 'Kidadulthood', nor does it present a bleak and hopeless view like Gary Oldmands 'Nil by Mouth". It is a far better offering than 'Shooters'. It feels like the older and mainly white characters (Ky's Mum, Police, Male Teacher etc) are stuck in the bleak and inescapable life they inherited. But the youth see a brighter future and have aspirations to not be enslaved to the lives of their parents. It feels like a realistic, accurate and insightful depiction of the day to day challenges, pressures and consequences of choices made by young 'black' men from a low socioeconomic background in a localised area of Nottingham.- the quality of the script and acting enables the film not to have to resort to unnecessary profanity, colloquialisms, and violence to hold viewer attention. Really sophisticated and mature and a great step forward for this genre. Ending was great! Definately as thought provoking as a mainstream budget film. -IMO
Exactly how I was when I was younger I was like Kai a nice person but hanging around with the worst crowd, doing stupid things. One time I just took so much money and got a job then moved up away from London I am in East Midlands near notts I had got a new job here. I was working everyday but home was cardboard on the floor next to a door step at someones random flat. After 1 and a half years of living on the streets I had finally took a loan out to rent out a house I have no family nothing, just my destiny to live but I will appreciate those wrong people I was with because they made me change, it just got me to realise grafting drugs and asking being under council roof wasn't who I wanted to be I am currently still at work but intending to be a professional photographer so I can spread my destiny and people can learn from it
I really liked this movie, I'm glad that Kye and his Brother escaped, but I kinda wanted to see the outcome of some of the other stories (like what happen with Malcolm, did he retaliate, and what about his Brother, did he recover, and end up with the girl) Just think it would have been cool to get some info on those lose ends, even if it had been written on the screen at the end. Maybe we'll get a Part 2.

I go UON and its mad how much of a blurred bubble I'm in that I'm so unaware of the life Notts youth actually face. The first thing I was told is "do not go to st Ann's" and "do not go anywhere on your own"
How things get so many lives and life's involved...Endlessly repeating up and down a chain, where breaking a link to a better future is near on impossible. Reality for most ,some say youths bring it all on themselves by allowing themselves to be controlled by elders but I dont think you have much choice once life becomes so cheap .. You do or you die.. Sound and thoughtful, well done all.
A writer's job is to show how life is, beyond what has been; to show how Life's journey takes us through the peaks and troughs to give us a whole appreciation; winter can't last forever, Spring must come. If the highs aren't adequately depicted here, then there was little artistic merit. This is too common in this type of film, too keen to say 'this is all there is', Groundhog day style, but it's not. I wonder the motive and intent behind funding such an uninspired 'conclusion'. I believe the purpose of the artist is to inspire, not change, but the awareness of change, and to show how Life brings us the opportunity and how to run with it. This story, this cautionary tale, this urban legend, isn't over, and yes, needs part 2 but in true current fashion, needs to be a trilogy.
You don't need a 10 million budget to make a great movie. Honestly this movie was great best movies I've seen in long time it gives you that feeling. You don't get it from now days movies well done to the crew 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
what a good film!!! im 35 and i grew up in st anns from age 3 - 18 on brewsters. i knew all the chase area well and this film brought back so many good memories! :-) 10/10
That drug dealer look like asap rocky lowkey lmao. Good movie. I love these kinds of urban british movies. Started off from watching Kidulthood and Adulthood. However... the ending was such a bad cliffhanger oml. Did the cops ever get exposed for dealing drugs? Did Luther and the girl ever get together? Did Kai find a new home? Where did he end up staying? What happened with the dudes who put a whooping on Luther etc etc... I wonder if there'll be a sequel.
1st one I ever watched I came across on here is called Twisted Seduction. I never knew about these movies until I came across that one & it was a really good movie. They made it with just 30,000 because the whole movie was filmed in 1 room. Sounds like it would be boring but it was actually a really good movie. About a girl who was kidnapped by a man who held her in his apartment until she fell in love with him. The ending was even better. They never made a part 2 because they didn't have the funds to do so. There are some really good movies on here some better then I watch they make in the U.S & some really talented people who could be doing this for a living but can't do to limited to no funds at all. It's a shame because I love these kinds of movies.

You guys made a good film. Well done. Keep it up and please don't stop. I like.
Watch one day

Don’t make sense
Real you made me sit up this morning when I watched this beautifully executed film of the real world.congratts family
