There's something really special about this show. It gives me a huge feeling of nostalgia, and I was born in 1994 in Finland so I have no real connection to the roots of hip hop. It's so sad that this was cancelled
Always said that if you listened to the right rappers you can get a great history lesson of what was happening during that time. This show was an education of not only music but also history. Very layered show. My favorite underlying theme about the show is how disco was slowly becoming a thing of the past and these kids were apart of a genre that became voice for the youth that still is til this day.
Still pissed this got cancelled but glad that a lot of the actors are going on to do some big stuff (Detective Pikachu, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Aquaman, etc)
That's because the higher ups don't want our people knowing the truth about Hip Hop culture. They want to keep our youth docile with all the lies and deceptions you see today.
Undoubtedly the best series that Netflix has done and I have seen it 4 times and I never get tired of watching it, it is not fair that they canceled it that ravia
This show is what Beat Street was supposed to be. I still love this era of hip hop. I wish more mc’s would go back to the harmonies and choruses they did back then. Thank god for The Pharcyde, Jurassic 5 and groups like that for keeping it alive. Word!
It just hit me that the verse that Grandmaster Caz spit was stolen by Big Bank Hank from the Sugar Hill Gang on the 2nd verse of "Rappers Delight". Ironically this episode ended with them saying that 9 months later, Rappers Delight was released.
I just finished watching the 2 part of this show. Is one of the show I have seen on Netflix. I wish it would had been more episodes!! The story was great. The actors were amazing!!
I enjoyed this....the music ,clothes and graffiti took me back to those years in Philly, when I saw GrandWizard Rasheen,Cash Money,Jazzy Jeff,Too Tuff, and Spinbad live.. I lived down the street from Cool Breeze Steve and around the the corner from a brother named Mark aka DJ GrandWizard and they would rock a mean block party
wrong term ,grandmaster flash did invent the back spin in mixing records I thought they were referencing the n boy dance back spin and windmill.my apologies for jumping to conclusions
you know what ? I would have agreed with the end of the series ... If Ezekiel was not so sad !! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HE BECOMES. FOR MY MENTAL HEALTH !!
@@frostygamer7518 Those not the girls those are just normal Singers Mylene was dead I believe cause at the end of the first episode he shed a tear while on stage as a adult then put his shades back on
that flex tho. "whatever you do in your lifetime don't ever let an emcee steal your rhyme" for those who don't know, the song 'rapper's delight' pretty much is an artificial amalgamation of stolen rhymes from the top MCs at the time, and it was recorded with a band.
Hope he either just got arrested or escaped that way if they bring this show back he can have a conversation with ra ra and boo boo and say guys the craziest thing happened I almost got hit by a train
Matthew Lopez no he is grandmaster caz the sugar hill gang stole lyrics of plenty of other rap songs for the song rappers delight. It's funny though he says "never let a mc steal your rhyme"
The way I've seen this story is that Caz gave some lyrics to Hank, and instead of adding his own flavor, he just recited the lyrics verbatim, without even changing the Caz callout.
Because it was sending out a positive message to the people who truly relates to it and knowing the mainstream industry they always neutralize something that's positive just to break our spirits
this is cool i love this show but the performances felt really corny towards later parts of the show the message is cool but yeah not really a fan it felt real before but later on it just didn't feel the same like that first get down that shit felt real and legit
grandmaster flash did not invent the back spin!! that's blasphemy ! Richard colon aka crazy legs of rock steady crew invented the back windmill and back spin!puertoricAns don't get the credit for the many things with contributed to in hiphop!
Tony Also a backspin is when you spin the record back with one motion fast , you hear the rewind of it when they do it. It has nothing to do with break dancing.

R.I.P the get down
It ended on such a cliff hanger too ☹️
It honestly should’ve ended with this scene.
And fly now where ever it went
Let's start a Go Fund Me to continue it.

That is all I got to say.

It was meant for Matthew Lopez, your comment was completely correct.
