I honestly don't understand why Netflix doesn't promote this show more. I see ads everywhere for some of their other shows like OITNB or 13 Reasons Why for example. But I don't see any hype for this show. It has such a unique plot and style. I would say it's one of the best Netflix originals and I wish it was more known.
I don't think it's what you're implying. They just tend to promote shows that get an instant buzz like Strangers Things or 13 reasons Why. Shows like this and Sense8 that have more of a cult following don't get as much press, but they have a small, very loyal audience.

MelquanKatz Nah, my man, Part II is set in Fall 1978. In Episode 1, they state it twice in the first 3 minutes, and then Zeke says they started making money the morning after the Yankees won the World Series. Yankees weren't in the 1979 World Series.
I was living in the Bx when this came out and know the locations in which it was filmed. This show touched on real topics: the struggle in poverty, youth seeking fame, romance and acceptance. Parents struggled in keeping their families together while managing their own problems. Its authentic, raw and identifiable to everyone. A shame it didnt continue for a couple of more seasons.
It didn't have the same energy as the vs notorious three battle, but it definitely shows their maturity and synchronicity. Can't wait to see more of my wonderful boys' performances!
Netflix did this masterpiece sooo dirty. Cancelling after season 1 and no promotion at all. Honestly, we finally get a diverse dope show and they take it away from us. I’ll never forgive Netflix for this man
Love, Honor and Respect to Get Down Brothers. One of the most incredible shows that ever came on Netflix. Yes, they cancel the show because the Get Down Brothers is another Black Panther, Malcolm X and Martin Luther Kinh Jr. who rise to power unite the people by liberating minds. Yes, love you DJ Shaolin the greatest Kungfu Masters for the Get Down Brothers who broke the Locks to get to the top.
Just saw it for 2nd time.. one of my fav. Series ever.. the music, the dancing, the characters, the photography, the 70's alive in your screen, the poo culture, the styling.. that is a uniquely WOW experience, a masterpiece..
I thought he was going to start rapping and complete his trifecta of talent. Oh well, lol. I have to correct myself. That would have been four talents: DJing, graffiti art, breakdancing, and rapping.
Morgan DAgreat Bi actually, but unless Thor dies he's not gonna vanish any time soon. Then again, the 80s are right around the corner. I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the group caught the three letter disease...might not even be Dizzee.
It is absolutely unbelievable, how poor minority people, who basically couldn't afford instruments. Could create a whole culture, with a record player an a microphone, a spray can, create b-boyin, through breakdowns in funk records. It's astonishing how this grass roots approach has singlehandedly taking over music, as we have it today. There has been nothing more inspiring then hip hop in the last 50 years.
this performance was FIRE 🔥🔥mad props to justice, skylan, jaden and tj for pulling it off, they're so talented! love the characters and the show, without a doubt the best show on Netflix right now. keep up the good work :)
One of the best NETFLIX series should make the third season and even more, excellent music, very good performances, and the very original truth. NETFLIX do something deserves more this series and those of us who pay for quality content.
this project is honestly the most candid show ever created. I mean, this is where hip hop came from! & now people wanna throw it all away and forget the amazing history this cast has presented to us
I just finished this show in 2 days. Started 08/27/21 finished 08/29/21 and I’m so mad it’s over. I’m so upset the The Get down Brothers broke up. I’m so mad at Netflix for giving it only 2 parts. This is so unfair I found this show by accident and now I’m heart broken. I see why they don’t promote it.
This is easily the best Netflix original series with an amazing soundtrack, likeable characters, amazing story and concept, amazing drama, etc. There's still so many questions I have with how it ended. Netflix worst mistake was cancelling this masterpiece of a show.
I think their battle with the Notorious 3 was more about the versus and showcasing their individual talent versus this song, Break the Locks, showcasing how far they've come as a group as they perform together. This song is one that you should want to watch as it happens before your eyes whereas the Notorious 3 battle can be listened to without visuals. I think they're both solid tbh, this one just has a different tone than the last one.
I've been a Hip-Hop head since the 70's. My older cousin was a local Brooklyn DJ and when ever he set up to perform I was there. It wasn't about the money for him, but there were like only 2 other DJ crews I had ever seen in Bed-Stuy, so the pickens were thin. He made a few dollars here and there but he would only charge like $15-$25, some weed , some drinks and food for his crew. He had a DJ setup that was impressive to me but he was always complaining about his Thorens T125 turntables. I thought they were the hardest turntables out, but him and his crew kept talking about these game changing turntables called "Technics 1200." Fastforward to July 4, 1977. My cousin was loading up the equipment for our blocks 4th of July block party. As the party was dying down that night a fight broke out. Long story short, a man got knocked down, rolled into the table holding the equipment and one of the turntables fell off and broke. My cousin was Hot! He had taken a deposit to do a party on July 16th just 2 days prior. Fastforward to Wednesday, July 13th (Blackout 77) There was a huge power outage in NY. Saturday morning of the 16th on my way to spend the weekend at my cousin's house I saw brand new DJ equipment being set up on at least 5 different blocks. And yeah, my cousin got his Technics 1200 and soooo much more. Other than Wild Style, The Get Down might be the realest vision of culture ever filmed.
I watched the series and I loved it. Please please please continue this story because it was fantastic. It actually was wonderful seeing NYC back in the 80’s when it was ruff raggedy and raw..
This show had been out already for 2 yrs now but I finally watched all of it for the first time this week and I must say, I understand why so many people are pissed this show was canceled, it was a pretty dope ass show. I hate Netflix for canceling it so early. We'll never know what happened with Fat Annie and Shamao, the reaction to Jaden's character's train death, whether Mylene came out successful or strung out on drugs etc etc The ending was breathtaking tho, especially when Mylene told Zeke she was leaving the Bronx pretty much for good, that whole thing kinda made me emotional. I most definitely will be watching this show again, it's just that good, just hate that I have to draw my own conclusions on what happens next since there will never be a season 3…ugh so frustrating.
I still impressed with this show. This a real education for this era crop of rappers. This is how hip hop was created a mic and two turntables. Simple and the music was amazing.
god I miss this show so much, just got my parents to watch it. My dad is one of those old types who hates hip hop and rap music, but he loves this show. Netflix neeeeeeeds to bring this show back i stg, the absolute highest quality show they ever made!!! I wanna see more of THE GET DOWNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!
I honestly was sad that Jaden Smith didnt really have a lot of scenes. And I love this show so much. But the first season was better ( my opinion). I still want a part 3 because I dont want it to end like this.
Une super série Netflix ! Les shows, les sons et les acteurs sont super ! Une saison 3 ne serait pas de refus 😉 impressionné nous encore ! Peace à tout les Royaume France loves the Get down
well if you think about it, we see books when he is grown up rappin on stage so they could potentially do more seasons of it leading up to him being a grown adult with his own career you know going into the era of rakim and run dmc and then potentially into the 90s with NWA and Tupac and Biggie. I think they should do at least one more season if not more but yanno it is what it is the first season was dope and I'm just hoping they do more.
Wasn't aware the show was cancelled. I did feel like the send part ended abruptly. Incredibly refreshing TV with a vibrant, wonderful cast. Really surprised me.
omg!!!!!! can't wait. To use a vernacular term from my youth "So Dope yo! Word!!!!!" lol. I so remember those types of performances- how absolutely fresh and amazing they were. The crowds would "bum rush the stage" and just go off - lose their minds.
I honestly don't understand why Netflix doesn't promote this show more. I see ads everywhere for some of their other shows like OITNB or 13 Reasons Why for example. But I don't see any hype for this show. It has such a unique plot and style. I would say it's one of the best Netflix originals and I wish it was more known.
zynbw you know why
Millie tbh I bet if this show was centered around white kids making music in the 70s it would get so much more recognition
Millie there so cool
I completely agree with you
I don't think it's what you're implying. They just tend to promote shows that get an instant buzz like Strangers Things or 13 reasons Why. Shows like this and Sense8 that have more of a cult following don't get as much press, but they have a small, very loyal audience.
R.I.P. Get down. Netflix made a huge mistake canceling this.
DamitaJo79 it was so much money to do the serie compare to the low amount of views :(

Still on netflix france 😉
XxnunexX they didn’t loose no views people just found free ways to watch it
very huge mistake, compared to all the trash shit they have on.

this is the BEST Netflix show! it is so amazing. it better be a part 3
Just finished Part 2, I don't think so ;(
Sentries Actually it's just a year after pt. 1, Zeke stated that in the first episode.
nah B. It's 1979
MelquanKatz Nah, my man, Part II is set in Fall 1978. In Episode 1, they state it twice in the first 3 minutes, and then Zeke says they started making money the morning after the Yankees won the World Series. Yankees weren't in the 1979 World Series.
You're right. I knew it wasn't the 80's though because the first documented rap record was in 1979
This was literallly the best show Netflix had I miss it so much❤️👏🏾 Rest In Peace
FIGHT FOR THIS SHOW. DONT LET THEM CANCEL IT
This show was Insanely dope. The first 2-3 episodes were tough to get through but after that it more than made up for it.
I was living in the Bx when this came out and know the locations in which it was filmed. This show touched on real topics: the struggle in poverty, youth seeking fame, romance and acceptance. I've met few Americans from the Bronx and this series gave me a REAL taste of some of the stories they shared with me... #toobad it was cancelled
Dizzie was the perfect character for jaden because they have the same alien mentality

Why ain't this show still around all these are HITS bro WTF
i cant take shao seriously no more with that goatee 😂
Haha, it does make him look considerably older than the other kids. But maybe that's the point. He's the father of the group.
KCohere33 lol he's the same age as dizzee
Abigail Marsh Are you saying the actors are the same age? I find that hard to believe.
