I’m curious what happens to all this stuff the end of season 4. Do they have a sale? Does it get donated? Thrown away? I’d love to have a piece of the silo!
I’ve Never watched Silo before I saw this video.. so, because of you I’ve binged watched S1 & I’m up to date on S2! lol.. thanks! 👍🏼 The show reminds me of snowpiercer , the music reminds me of Westworld.. both great shows in their own right that need to make a come back!
I got to do this a couple of times! Some friends and I got recruited as assorted freaks and weirdos for the first Judge Dredd movie. A lot of waiting, then we got the chance to act like a crowd. Which was more hanging around and waiting. Not being actors, it was strange when they yelled 'action' and then not acting, just carrying on chatting and doing what we were doing.
Yes, and sometimes they'll need to quickly cast somebody for a non-speaking role in whatever they're doing. That's how I got to be an incredibly aggravating kid in an educational film whose whole job was to annoy the hell out of the ref while he was talking to the camera.
I saw a funny tweet from a Star Trek actor who was a longtime Trekkie. The prop master came out with three props for him to use in a scene and was about to explain them when the actor said something like "That's a phaser, that's a bistatic phase disruptor, and that's a reverse energy decoupler. I got this."
Whether you love or hate a film or show, there’s an army of passionate creators working hard behind the scenes. Thank you for sharing this, while I haven’t seen the show this is a fantastic look behind the scenes
I never knew about this show! ITS SOOOO GOOOD!!! Just finished season 1 and I am in love! Thank you Jaime for showing me something I would have never known about
The amount of work for 10 seconds is amazing and is mind blowing. Hat is off for the people behind the scenes. A younger me would skip all the crafting awards, now it is the highlight. Thx Adam and team for showing this. Underrated by millions of miles. Most magic and least credit. eye opener for me :)
He's from London, innit ! :) That his brain can track tens of thousands pieces of stuff is unbelievably cool. Great to see someone enjoyably enthusiastic about their job. No wonder those shows are so expensive. Look at the size of the warehouse, and that just for storage of this stuff. Christ almighty, the $$$$ .....
I highly recommend next time you're in Sydney that you do the backstage tour of the opera house. The mechanics and logistics of all the theatres is amazing.
I love worldbuilding in (science) fiction. I love watching people create worlds that are believable and coherent. Designing that backstory, the decisions if something ought to exist or not. The concept of a "lore book" is great: for the narrative the TV show, movie or book gives us, like "real life" there's 10,000 years of stuff that's already happened and that has to be taken into consideration. I haven't seen Silo yet but these glimpses make me want to!!
I must say that Mythbusters was a masterpiece in reality TV and I even purchased them on DVD for binge rewatches back in the day... Thanks for your continued ability to educate us in all these wonderful topics that you share with us... I appreciate that.
I'm currently working security for a movie set for a production that Kevin Costner is doing here in Southern Utah. Watching them take brand new lumber and create a town that really looks like something from 1865 was amazing, to say the least!! I wouldn't be surprised to see Doc Holliday riding a horse out here. Or maybe some guys called Hayse
Love the silo content. I saw your video about the set design (with the models) from Silo and binged watched season 1 and 2 before even finishing that video!
If you pay close (audio) attention during Tim Burton's first 1989' batman, the special effects sound of Jack Napier (pre Joker transformation) smashing ths ACME control panels, is the Same Exact sound effects when Vicky Vale investigates Batman's crashed batwing and the control panel explodes on her.
Well you know within the realm of Hollywood the sound department always have a finite sound cataloged of sounds to use. So yeah their are times when certain sounds that'll be reused. One extremely notable example is the Wilhelm scream. Since 1951 when it was first used it's been used in over 1000 movies and tv shows. Now it has become one of the biggest long running gags within the Hollywood industry.
I kept waiting for him to say, “We have a grid mapped out on the floor, the computer will spit out that hammers are in grid 12, stack 4, shelf 3.” Instead it looks like if that fella gets hit by a bus no one will know where stuff is, good luck in the search‼️
i would love to see the prop manufacturing departement! just recently created a Steampunk Hat :) always a beauty to see the methods to create the illusion of "something".. cheers everybody & i love you Adam :)
Thanks for turning us on to Silo! Seeing the prop shop brings back long ago memories of moving/storing scenery. LU720 LV. Holiday Blessings and best wishes to All!
Adam's enthusiasm is one reason why I know that I'll never be a successful RUclipsr! Watching him being led around is like watching a parent trying to keep their 4-yr old near by, hah.
Everything comes in new with the intention of making sure it doesn't look new before it's used... I'll keep this in mind the next time someone asks me why I don't have a recycling bin that takes the contents to the same destination as the garbage.
On the girls channel that deep-dives the 1970’s “Columbo” show - she points out how the same set-dressing props show up in different unrelated episodes.
If the shows is a hit and is going to be renewed for more seasons, key pieces will be reused. Other items will be sold or already belong to specialized prop companies. It might go to the studio or production companies prop room. Select pieces might be sent for auction. And the part he was talking about yelling at people refiling through the boxes of stuff projected not to be used again - staffers might want a souvenir (not supposed to do that but everyone wants objets de mémoire), they might want to cannibalize an existing object into another prop, or it just might be thrown out of it makes it through all the other diversionary processes and it's just something that's never going to be used again.
I live/lived in a city known for productions and a lot of the stuff you see in this video would be given away at its end of life. First to crew and staff etc. and then to the public. It's really not exciting though lol I mean you're talking glasses you can already buy, dishes, fake plants etc.
What's fascinating is that I've literally never heard of nor have any idea about what "Silo" is or even where it airs. That's not meant to be insulting. It just speaks to the 'litter' of streaming shows. There's all this effort and apparently multiple seasons and I couldn't even feign a guess about it.
I wish we actually got to see how they organize and store props. What catalog system do they use? Do they use barcodes How things are filed? Do they use a naming convention? How can they gather all props for a shoot quickly? Walking around the shop is nice, but the process/logistics is rarely if ever gets shown.
As an aside, I really like the show, but it's so slow moving I worry that it'll get cancelled before the full story is presented. (It's based on the book series "Dust" and the audiobook is excellent - in case you can't wait for the TV show...)
Adam, huge fan here. Is there any way you could do a potential debunk/build of this "rail gun" project? I'm aware it shouldn't work and why it shouldn't work. But that first video is too interesting. I'm sure you have all the parts readily available as well. Thanks for your time! And if you don't build it; I'll be building it in 2025.
Why are there soooo many brits on the show and set? I mean, they’re doing a phenomenal job, but I have to wonder why? You’d think it would be more expensive to fly and board them??
@@grndkntrl I meant one of their buildings to be precise, not a whole factory. It has the feeling of square footage of one of those places Tim Dodd touring with Musk.
What a waste of space, money and attention. I really enjoyed the practical effects in movies, but watching at this enormously wasteful operation, I'm thinking that CGI is not that bad.
(Note: Light spoilers within for SILO Season 2)
SILO season 2 is now streaming on Apple TV+.

Wheeling out a big cart of props and distributing them among the extras in that "go, look like you're doing something" must be a fun moment on set.

Props to the prop department for preparing for such a fantastic production!
I love all the thought put into the props of the silo. Nice meeting this dude. He knows his stuff! 9:48

It was an amazing place to work and a lovley team to look after for a couple of weeks. - i was a construction medic for the season currently filming
Wish it had been longer that was really intriguing.
A full journey of a set piece from brought in new to being set ready would be a cool video. IMO
