      MetalJesusRocks you should do an episode on “Tell-Tale Games”. They recently announced their closure; this is unfortunate because they had a lot of great games in development. With your experience in the industry, I totally think your insight would be interesting. Do you think we are heading for another “video game” market crash?

    Castle Wolfenstein. - Back at the beginning of 1980's people tried to sell their own software and the companies were small. They could not afford to mass produce boxes, so they used whatever they found. The disks were mostly copied on the programmers computer and did not have a printed label. Check out the early Scott Adams adventures' packaging and you'll be amazed.
    You also have two games in the pacland box (the other one being pac mania).
    Winnie the pooh has Mark Crowe on the staff list that must be mentioned who also worked on space quest series(which I quite enjoy).
    It seems I've played every game in this video to death back in the day :)

    @RareDivers 5 лет назад +10

    After the release of Beyond Castle Wolfenstein, Main Street Publishing purchased the rights of Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Woflensetin in 1985/86 I believe. However, the were such a cheap company, they only bought the packaging for Beyond Castle Wolfenstein, and their release of Castle Wolfenstein simply had a IBM sticker over the word Beyond to denote that it was Castle Wolfenstein, and not the sequel. However, your copy appears to be for the Commodore. I was under the impression they only released it for DOS. Quite Fascinating. The Moby Games website would benefit of having a entry created for this
    Their office is actually only a mile or so away from me. Kinda interested in seeing what is there now.
    So, your copy is legitimate. Just missing the box.

      Zyrother the original was for Apple II and actually had staticy voice effects like “Halt!” or “Kaput!” but it also had apple II graphics, eh.
      Never made it very far on an emulated copy…

    • @RareDivers
      @RareDivers 5 лет назад

      Yeah, neither are that fun to play, but they laid very critical groundwork for stealth game play that includes loud noises that can alert enemies, stealth kills, looting enemies, etc. You can also get drunk if you consume alcohol found in chests, which throws off your aim!

    wow a 5 inch floppy havent seen one of those in quite a long time. In the i'd say late 80's games were transitioning from 5" floppy to the 3.5" floppy disk, i remember buying a Star Trek Game, it came with the 5" and 3.5" floppys inside. So i'm guessing that Wolfenstein floppy you showed was from before they started changing. I also miss the big game boxes, i remember many a game that was only a disc and a few papers and the rest of the box was huge. That these people had kept thier game boxes for all this time is really great i wish i could have saved mine as well.

    I have some big box pc games I used to play back in the past: The big box version of Myst, with all the manuals, map and everything. This also comes with a separate disc which has the music score from the game itself. I also have Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 3 which is absolutely fantastic even by today's standards. Again, there is a gorgeous novel of a manual detailing all of the tracks and how to set up your car to race on them. This is NOT a game, rather it is a SIMULATION!
    It really feels like you are driving a Formula One car. I also have Baulder's Gate, Shadows of Ahm [ I think it's called]. Again, complete with manuals and everything. I also have 'Empire Earth' and the add on too. The manual/novel, is beautiful. And I also have 'Arcanum of Steamworks and Magik'. They all still play like a dream.

    @4:00 Castle Wolfenstein comes out. I had one just like it and other games packaged that way. Mine came from the store called Target. Older games could be bought cheaper packaged that way. You basically got a disk and that was about it. I bought quite a few games that way because of the way cheaper price. The budget rack with those was my first stop in the computer software isle when we went to Target. I'm sure many other stores probably had them the same way. Man, that seems like a LIFETIME ago when I was buying those. Have a great day.

    I have also a similar version of Castle Wolfenstein. It's the same blister-package, but with a different cover. It says Main Street Publishing on the front cover, which was kind of a low-budget-reseller according to Moby Games. And some trivia about the Rock'n'Roll game: This is one of the BEST Rainbow Arts games ever! It was the only game of a famous german game critic named Martin Gaksch, who provided the awesome level design. It's kind of a Marble Madness with top-down-view and a lot of game and puzzle elements. Also, the soundtrack is fantastic. It was composed & arranged by Ramiro Vaca (for the Commodore 64 version) and Chris Hülsbeck (Amiga) and is the sole reason, why the game is called Rock n Roll ;) The PC version has a new soundtrack by Jochen Hess with completely new tracks and (I have to repeat myself) one of the best Adlib-instrumentation I have ever heard. Sadly, there is no Roland MT-32 version. Also, the PC version has some kind of strange scrolling - the screen doesn't move smoothly, but switches every three or four tiles, you roll over. It's very unusual and it took even back in 1990 some time to get used to. So, I would rather recommand playing the Amiga-version than the PC one, you got.

    That plastic form around 5:00 with the shape of a cassette and floppy disks.
    Nice to see original titles!
    I think that castle wolfenstein is legit, it might have been how some early Apple II/C64 indies were packaged. The original ultima was supposedly just ziploc bags and a photocopied manual with a hand typed paper label.
    That might be a real piece of history
